  1. I think it will be a quiet deadline for the Crew. I'll say we do something low-key like a Bryan Hudson for Carlos Santana + cash or something like that.
  2. I don't think we are going to pay up for Suarez... but I won't be the happiest if Chicago gets him and this is a step in that direction.
  3. Unsurprising but the Orioles are officially open for business. This also sets up the lefty reliever market a little. Mets sending their #19 prospect and another ticket.
  4. There is little precedent to a guy on an innings limit being a top of the line starter during a playoff push as far as I know. Others probably have better examples but the most glaring one that comes to mind for me is Strasburg with the Nationals and they shut him down. I have no inside knowledge of anything but I'm not expecting Miz to be there come playoff time. Woodruff I would think is good to go.
  5. You just answered your own question. Real quick recent example when we had Wiemer, Frelick, and Mitchell all together. Easy when they are all mashing in the minors to say "trade away for help" ... but not many would have picked Frelick as the survivor of that trio. Had we traded away the depth early I'm guessing we would have traded Sal and Joey... Mitchell would have stayed? Had we traded Sal and Joey for early rentals that move would have hurt us long term. Instead we let the situation play out, Sal becomes a half decade starter - we get a playoff push piece last year for Wiemer and Mitchell is a TBD. The non sexy but prudent move is often keeping the depth and letting the players decide who is going to make it ... because if you start deciding yourself who will make it and who won't and you are wrong ... you turn into the Rockies. It is really easy to sit here right now and say "just trade from depth and get the guy who will help you win the world series" ... but you are gambling on about 6 levels that you can actually do that. Would love to hear who you think we should trade and for whom though.
  6. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't know that I have expectations that Gasser will help the big league club this year as a starter?... Especially not in August. I'm hopeful for after, just not expecting. Using Woodruff as an example, (I know he had an odd set back or two) ... Woody threw 42 minor league innings over 10 appearances before being back. Even if we cut that in half and say RG will make 5 starts ... That is a full month from now, We are almost to September and that is also assuming he is as effective as when we saw him last. Who knows! Cortes I'm expecting to be ready and to be shoved back into the log jam... Gasser is an unknown to me.
  7. I didn't mean to offend man. You said you wanted a CC type of acquisition, and I wasn't sure if you knew we had to take on his contract as well because that wouldn't be possible in this scenario. Cheers.
  8. Did you want Attanasio to go out and pitch to Alonso last year to prove he wanted to win it all? Maybe he should have gotten the best closer in baseball at the time to do it... Dang, bad fan base and owner. Not wanting it. All of 'em head in the clouds and delusional. If he could only assemble a roster to have the best record in baseball this year... Maybe that will prove he wants to win it all. Ehh, probably not. Delusional. Some of them just don't get it like us, BigRed. We are the ones that want it the most. We know.
  9. When you acquire a player you also get his contract. So unless you think we can trade him this off-season, I'm not sure how we'd only get him for just this playoff run and avoid his remaining salary owed.
  10. I hate to use the money analogy again but no team is going to give you a dollar bill for 20 nickels. They are not going to trade us the best pitcher in the National League during his affordable years and not get a single top five prospect back from us. They likely wouldn't do it without getting AT LEAST 2 of our top 5.
  11. This thread is such an interesting read and I say this with no malice ... just observing. It's interesting the perspectives ... some people are hoping we can trade Tyler Black for Eugenio Suarez and some people are wanting to trade half of our farm system for Otto Lopez. The bell curve on perceived value is wild.
  12. How much of the team does Mark own?
  13. Salary. No go unfortunately :(
  14. Gilbert has great stuff. Also, Dillard... "The Mariners know how to pitch man, they don't walk guys, they pitch to contact and when they get you on the ropes they try to strike you out." Rewriting the pitching code here..
  15. I asked for last year's numbers and you added this year's into it. I'd politely ask that you not pad the stats for one side of the argument. I'll restate my stance. I like Lopez. I'd welcome him on the team. I don't think it's fair to write off Ortiz over a bad offensive first half of a season, especially when he has shown marked improvement over the last stretch and the player you are replacing him with is somewhere between the same and marginally better. That isn't even considering the cost of acquisition - which the OP has suggested be 4 players including Cooper Pratt. Vibes are a real thing. If you jettison Joey for Lopez the extra output in production has to offset the potential Hader effect. I both hope I'm right and Joey wins us the World Series and I also hope I'm wrong and Lopez wins us the World Series. In my humble opinion the two guys to upgrade for the stretch run are Bauers and Mona. Hopefully one of those replacements is a LHB 1st baseman and the other one is a guy who can provide power off the bench. I think we could replace Joey but it has to be a significant upgrade.. not a parellel+ move.
  16. Lopez had a better first half than Joey. I don't think he is an obvious upgrade moving forward. Why don't you put last year's numbers up? I like Lopez ... but he was a DFA guy a year+ ago. Glad he has found a home. I could be very wrong but I don't see an obvious reason why Joey won't outproduce him in totality from now until EOY.
  17. Pass for me as well. Lopez isn't an obvious upgrade to Ortiz and would be too rich as an upgrade to Mona.
  18. The GM would be wise not to even mention trading Skenes until his controllable years are up. If I'm the owner and my GM, who hasn't been able to field me a competitive team, asks me if we can trade the one guy on our team that makes me money.. we would very soon be in the market for a new GM.
  19. Last time the Brewers had the best record in baseball this late in the season was 1982. I love Bob Uecker. Best record in the league. I bet ESPN moves us up to #8 or something in their power rankings..
  20. My uneducated guess is that Ashby throws something that Cal struggles against maybe? One of his off-speed pitches ... and if Ashby gets him he can just finish the game. If/then scenario...
