  1. I expect Melvin to acquire the 2nd starter through a trade. Fox mentioned that the Brewers are talking to the Mariners about Brandon Morrow, it is being discussed in the transaction rumor thread. If he's not able to make a trade, I expect him to bring in a bargain veteran right before spring training. There will probably be a few of those guys still out there.
  2. I'd be very excited to see the Brewers get Morrow, he is definitely a great buy low candidate. I'd love to see a hard thrower like him in our rotation. I think a change of scenery might do him a lot of good. As for who it would take to get him? I could see Hart being traded to Seattle, or maybe a group of prospects since so many were traded away in the Lee deal. Either way I hope that Melvin gets this done.
  3. Adam Jones was traded two years ago for Eric Bedard, he just played in the all star game w/ Baltimore last year. Off the top of my head they have Morrow, Aumont, Michael Saunders, Dustin Ackley and Josh Fields who are all pretty good prospects.
  4. I'm betting Aumont is also in the deal.
  5. I hope we get Lee if this is true. A 1-2-3 of Lee, Gallardo, Wolf would be outstanding.
  6. Apparantly the Phillies might trade Lee in a 3 way deal to get Halladay. I think it would be awesome but unlikely if the Brewers were somehow involved. Edit: I didn't read the posts above mine, I guess this was already brought up. Now they are saying that the Phillies are discussing a long term deal w/ Halladay. So I guess it might be true.
  7. I was so disgusted w/ the road situation in Madison I decided to write an e-mail, here it is w/ the response from Al Shumacher. My e-mail "I've noticed that a lot of the main roads on the east and north side of town still have inches worth of packed down snow that has turned into ice since it last snowed 48 hours ago. Some of the roads I'm talking about are E. Washington, CV, Northport, North Sherman, Hwy 30 and numerous other roads. I do not feel safe driving my family on these roads, and think that this is something that needs to be resolved as soon as possible. I realize the budget is tight, but I think the city of Madison is underestimating how bad these roads are in need of more plowing and salt. Thanks for listening to a concerned Madison resident." Response "We are not satisfied with the condition of the streets either. We did salt our streets on Tuesday throughout the early part of the storm up until the time that we started plowing all streets, which was midnight. There was a decision to continue with the plowing and not to pull 30 plow units away from plowing on Wednesday in order to insure that the plowing continue so that people could get out of their homes and so that emergency vehicles could travel without getting stuck. Obviously, we wish the outcome would have been better. It was not a decision based on budget. We have been applying tons and tons of sand to our main arterials so that cars can try to get traction but the sand keeps blowing off by the cars. The main arterials are the streets we normally salt but currently can't because salt is ineffective at temperatures below 15. We are applying a 50-50 mix of salt and sand today to try to get some traction and try to start the deicing process. We will be applying salt as soon as we possibly can to clear those main arterials. We will be applying salt as daylight appears on Saturday morning and we won't go home until the streets are cleared. Al Schumacher Street Superintendent "
  8. Sheet w/ the Cubs, and Favre w/ the Vikes, its bizzaro world. I hope he doesn't pitch for them, I think that would be tough to see.
  9. I keep hearing reports that he's going to be non-tendered. I hope the Brewers end up w/ him.
  10. Pingman, isn't he a FA now that the Braves let him go?
  11. Pudster, the difference is Braden Looper was one of the worst pitchers in baseball last season and Randy Wolf was one of the best. That, and the fact that he proved that he is healthy is the reason he is finally getting a long term deal.
  12. I love it, I think 3 year 27 million dollar deal is very fair, congrats to Melvin on getting the 2nd best pitcher on the FA market. He definitely is a huge upgrade to our rotation, hopefully he can stay healthy and become a fixture to our pitching staff. I'm excited to see who else we get.
  13. I'm hoping that he continues to pitch like he did last season, otherwise no big deal, he is at least league average. I'm sure it wasn't for a ton of money.
  14. How can you guarantee that valpo? He has been very good, his last 300 innings pitched, so why is he all of a sudden going to just drop off? I know you're trying to convince people that this is a bad signing, but what is the point of throwing out useless guarantees that you have no idea if they will come true or not?
  15. Thank you, I'm also getting very tired of every fa pitcher being called another Suppan, it is getting a little played out. I would be happy w/ getting Garland, but I'd much rather have Wolf.
  16. Are we talking about the same Mike Gonzalez? He was one of the best relievers in baseball last season w/ a 2.41 ERA in 74.1 innings and a 90/33 k/bb ratio. I would definitely forfeit a 2nd round pick for that. I think he would be a tremendous set up guy for the Brewers. I also think Kevin Gregg would be a very solid bullpen addition.
  17. I like the Smoltz idea trwi7, but I'm not sure if he would be interested in coming to Milwaukee.
  18. I'd rather have Scherzer than Jackson, but the D-Backs must think that Jackson is an ace type if there willing to give up Scherzer.
  19. Joe Hova, come on now, you think that signing Livian Hernandez would do just as much as signing Randy Wolf? The point is that Randy Wolf has been very good the last season and a half, and has shown that he is fully healthy, and we need good pitching. I know you don't want the Brewers to sign Randy Wolf, but to compare his impact w/ someone like Livian Hernandez is pretty ridiculous to me.
  20. Fondy, thats exactly what I was trying to say.
  21. Or you could say that he's pitched 404.2 innings in the last 2 seasons.
  22. I don't think it will come down to him being non-tendered, he's got to have enough value to get at least some talent for him. I would give up a few mid-level prospects for him.
  23. It's starting to sound like this deal isn't as close as I thought it was, apparantly his agent is meeting w/ Mets officials today. I really, really hope this gets done. Randy Wolf has been really good the last season and a half since he's been healthy, and would be a great signing at 3yr/30 million dollar deal.
  24. I'm guessing Bradley went to the DRays w/ a bunch of his salary paid, and the Cubs got minor leaguers back.
  25. I think there is no way that we carry 3 catchers next season, especially w/ Mcgehee and his extensive catching experience on the roster. I'd rather just non-tender Rivera and give the backup job to Kotteras or Salome.
