  1. It's a suprise when most of the media is predicting them to be the worst team in the league. Which superstar are you talking about?
  2. Jeff Clement was traded to the Pirates last season. I replied in the other thread, but I would be happy w/ this trade, but I agree that the Mariners should be adding another player. I'd like to see Phillip Aumont included.
  3. So far it sounds like Brandon Jennings has shown big time improvement over the preseason, and is starting his second game in a row tonight against the Bobcats. It should be an interesting season, I think they have a chance to suprise the national media and sneak in for that 7th, 8th spot. They also have a chance to be really bad if Bogut and/or Redd don't stay healthy. Its a shame that FSN hasn't televised any of the Bucks preseason games.
  4. http://ussmariner.com/200...es-2010-off-season-plan/ Dave at the USS Mariner says the Mariners should trade Brandon Morrow for J.J. Hardy, an idea that I suggested earlier. I would love to see that happen, although I think that we could possibly get another pitcher in that deal.
  5. Are you just speculating that he is returning?
  6. Obviously the Royals are not going to be trading Zack Grienke this season, but a package of Hardy, Gamel, Parra and Salome is a pretty big package. What could we realistically expect in return for those 4 players? I would think that would be enough for an ace pitcher.
  7. Yes it should, but Craig Counsell is very good defensively at SS, 2B and 3B, won't complain w/ a backup role, and will cost a lot less money than Lopez.
  8. I guess it takes a lot to impress you. I'm now even more of a Craig Counsell fan, that is a very good story.
  9. Brian Giles or Randy Winn might be nice bounce back options, although Giles sounds like he might be a bit of a headcase. I also wouldn't mind Jermaine Dye, Rick Ankiel or Xavier Nady. I'd rather not go after Byrnes or Baldelli. Overall, I like Dye the best if his option isn't picked up.
  10. I'd rather give Hudson the money than go after Lowe, unless they would be willing to eat some of his contract. Where did you hear that Chipper was moving to first?
  11. Who do you think we should get to play CF? Just because our pitching was really bad this season, doesn't mean Cam's defense didn't have an impact. He is one of the top centerfielders in baseball, and centerfield is one of the most important positions. I think even at $10 million its money well spent. I believe Cameron is a key to our ballclub, and we will still be able to acquire 2-3 pitchers through trades and a 6-7 million a year fa starter.
  12. Right, and I don't see that as being close to enough. Chipper Jones will be back next season, so I don't see 3b as a pressing need for them. I also think that they will bring back Laroche at 1b. You don't think they will be able to trade one of Kawakami or Lowe to clear up salary?
  13. The phrase "another Suppan", is used quite a bit by Brewer fans, and I don't think Kevin Correia falls under that category. He isn't a free agent, I pretty sure he has enough value where the Padres will offer him arbitration.
  14. I like the idea of getting Corriea, his average fastball velocity was up 2 mph ( 89.1 to 91.1) from the 08' season when he struggled. I'm not sure why the Padres would trade him, but I would love to acquire him at the right price. Although after last season, I could see the Padres asking for a lot. I know he is elibible for arbitration, but when does he become a free agent? What is a good site to look that up?
  15. I think he is more important to the Brewers than most people think, especially defensively. He automatically makes our pitching staff better.
  16. Why would they give up a guy that pitched 219 innings w/ a 238/44 K/BB ratio, and a 2.87 ERA for Casey Mcgehee? I'm sure they could get much more for Javier Vazquez. I would be interested in any of Javier Vazquez, Tim Hudson or Kenshin Kawakami, but it all depends on the price it would take to get them. I'm sure Melvin will look into it.
  17. I'd have no problem w/ that, although I'm not sure that is anything more than speculation.
  18. Nate, how do you know for sure that Hart can't fetch more than Kawakami? Some teams may value his speed/power combination more than the Brewers do, and maybe we can get a younger pitcher w/ a higher upside that had a down year last year like Brandon Morrow. Although we might have to add a mid level prospect to get him.
  19. Really, Phil Garner again? I guess one can never get enough scrap iron.
  20. That seems like a good idea John Briggs, but everytime I bring that up, everybody tells me how terrible he is as a SS. I'm w/ you and think that he could get close to 500 ab's over the course of a season, and defense included I think he would be a very valuable player. I just question if he would even consider coming back under those conditions.
  21. I'd just like to point out that Angel Salome is a year removed from a .973 OPS season at Huntsville as a 22 year old. We have had some pretty terrible offensive catchers at the major league level for a long time, and I'd like to change that. He is only going to be 24, and had an injury filled, but decent when healthy, first season at AAA, why is everybody in such a hurry to trade him? With what he has shown so far, and from what I've heard about his work ethic, I don't think his value is nearly what it could be. I'd rather just keep him in AAA, and see if his defense and game calling can continue to improve. IMO he has a chance to be a special player, and I'd rather not give up on him yet.
  22. I don't see that happening, I think they've pretty much given the job to McGehee. The only way I see Lopez coming back is as a super utility guys or if Weeks won't be ready.
  23. I have no problem w/ keeping Hart if we aren't able to get decent value for him. I think he will bounce back and have a +.800 OPS season.
  24. The Cubs winning the World Series.
  25. I doubt Matt Cain will be available, and I think it would take significantly more than Hardy, Gamel and Bush if he was. They already are paying Renteria a bunch to play SS, and also have Sandoval as there 3b of the future. I don't think that Dave Bush has a whole lot of value right now either.
