  1. I think that, as a whole on this board, I've read more snarky, cliche statements against Roenicke than in support of him. I also think I've read more snarky, cliche statements against Roenicke than well-reasoned arguments about why he is such a terrible manager. But then again, maybe that's just selective memory because I am thoroughly entertained by it all.
  2. As far as I'm concerned, every contract Braun has ever signed came BEFORE any of the drug-related activity for which he's been suspended. He won't "give up" his contract, and based on all the information available, he shouldn't.
  3. I agree, it would also be interesting to see this list based on career WARs
  4. First of all, it does not sound like this is anywhere near the realm of being "just" a PR move. From WTMJ's article, a quote from Rick Schlesinger about Ryan Braun: "He said, 'I'd like to call fans, but with an emphasis on ticket buyers, mini plan holders, reach out, apologize, listen.' We said, 'Great!' It was all his initiative. He didn't want publicity about it." (bold added for emphasis) But to a certain extent, anything Braun says or does publicly at this point is a PR move. But that doesn't necessarily mean that it's fake or not genuine. For people who want Braun to do an in-person press conference or whatever, would that not be a PR move? People who want to hold this against Braun, not believe what he says, etc. will always come up with a reason to support their own personal opinions.
  5. I obviously don't have all of the information, but what is the point of buying cases of bobbleheads only to never open them?
  6. Thanks, that is the kind of thing I was thinking of. It seems rather obvious now that Beckett would have one... but thanks for pointing me to it!
  7. I do not have my own season ticket package, but I do buy into a full season package for 2 tickets for 10 games. I plan on renewing indefinitely because: 1) 10 is a manageable number of games (enough to make it worthwhile, but not too many) 2) The tickets are in the 2nd row of the field level, and I don't want to lose the opportunity to buy seats that good. 3) The price is reasonable as the tickets are in the first section of "outfield" pricing. In general though, if the tickets weren't as good, or I wasn't in the package with friends/relatives, I would not buy season tickets and would go game-to-game instead. My preferred method for most sporting events is scalping tickets day-of, unless it is a high-demand event and I want to guarantee myself tickets ahead of time.
  8. It has been a while since I collected cards, but I am considering starting to collect cards of a particular NFL player. Does anyone know of a resource that might list for example all the cards that have been made of a particular player? If something like this does exist, I am assuming it would be some kind of online database that requires a paid membership for access. But any info or guidance anyone can offer would be appreciated. Thanks.
  9. Why would an infield play in with 2 outs? They have Yuni B or Juan Francisco playing 1B
  10. I did a food tour on a Saturday back in June. It was a good way to experience a variety of foods in Chicago as well as walk around the city a bit. We did ours through Taste Bud Tours, but I'm sure there are others as well. The one we did was bacially lunchtime (lasted from 11 to 2:30 or so) with food at the different stops included in the price. I also would second the John Hancock building... you can have lunch up on the 95th floor. (As an interesting side note, visiting MLB teams generally stay right across the street from the Hancock building at the Westin.) I agree that Navy Pier is overrated. If nothing else, I generally enjoy just walking around downtown there.
  11. I agree with you. I believe that in some way or another, absolutely every single person on this earth is a lying/cheating/stealing/you name it immoral, hypocritical scumbag (myself included). That does not excuse Ryan's actions, or make them right. It does not mean that I will believe everything he says now. But I am going to do my best to not hold a grudge against him (for a variety of reasons). And I am certainly not going to complain about the way in which he issued his apology, what he did or didn't say, etc. He messed up, he apologized, it's time for me to move on. I have a hard time faulting him for anything in his statement because I do not have all the information he does, and I certainly have never been in a situation anywhere remotely close to what he's been in for the past couple years. Am I curious to know more? Of course. But he certainly doesn't owe it to me or anyone else, and if he would prefer to keep quiet and hurt himself PR-wise, then so be it. Some people's opinions aren't going to change anyway.
  12. Armed and Dangerous. Some may hate it but I find it hilarious.
  13. Bill Schroeder is correct in that situation. As Drew Olson would gladly explain to you, if you have flipped 10 heads in a row, you can be pretty sure that the next one is coming up tails. Brian Anderson just doesn't know what he is talking about.
  14. Yes it was... I bought some tickets outside the stadium that had the words "BP" printed on them in place of the price. Speaking of which... finding cheap tickets is now a lot more difficult than normal because of the vouchers. Based on my experiences the past couple years, normally for a late-summer game with a struggling team you'd be able to find tickets for $5 each pretty easily. But last night getting anything under $12.50-$15 each was tough even after the game started... and my mission was $10 or less per ticket as that was the limit my brother gave me for what he was willing to spend. The scalpers would use lines like, "You get a $10 voucher per ticket when you get in, so if you give me $30 for these two tickets, you're really only paying $10." Nevermind that I wouldn't buy food at the game anyways due to the fact that I had already eaten and the lines would be really long... not to mention the fact that you don't get change for the voucher, so either you're paying something out of pocket to use it all or are using only a portion of it. And I have enough merchandise that I don't really need the vouchers for that... and no matter what you buy, chances are that you're overpaying for it if you get it from Miller Park. On the whole, a voucher for $10 is (to me) worth significantly less than $10 cash. Rant over... I will eventually use my vouchers, but only because I have them and would prefer to get minimal value as opposed to no value.
  15. In some cases you are right Thurston, but in others it may be better to not tax the bullpen. Personally, I enjoy seeing "strange" things like position players pitching.
  16. I use a few quotes from some of the movies already mentioned on occasion: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles - "You're going the wrong way!" "How do they know where we're going?" Airplane - "Get a hold of yourself!" Major League - "Juuust a bit outside" But most often when I quote something, it is Family Guy. "A boat's a boat but a mystery box could be anything... It could even be a boat!" "Learn to love the gas Meg. Love it!!" (my wife doesn't appreciate that one) "Top men." "Who?" "Top.... Men" "Ooh, piece of candy" "Do you have the expressed written permission of the NFL and ABC??" "Just ABC..."
  17. Do you have a link? I am just curious - is that why he picked to go to the U of Miami? I had never heard that before.
  18. Is this in a bad part of town or something? I'm just wondering why that would cause "trouble." I generally make a special effort to honk at pedestrians when they're jaywalking.
  19. I do not want to debate gun control either, but given that it is legal to concealed carry in most states, I have an honest question about the advantages and disadvantages to Tanner about carrying in this particular incident. (i.e., my question has nothing to do with concealed carry laws themselves, I am more interested in the strategy of how Tanner in this instance could have protected himself and the associated pros/cons) Let's say Tanner was carrying at the time he was mugged. (Prior to the attack, the assailant does not know he's carrying.) How does he react when the assailant goes after him? Does he say, "I have a gun" and the guy backs off and goes away? Does he pull it out and point it at the guy? It seems to me like carrying is a higher risk/higher "reward" scenario. The risk is that the assailant also is carrying and pulls the trigger first. The "reward" is getting the guy to back off without taking anything or harming Tanner. I am asking these questions because I have never taken a concealed carry class, I have never owned a gun, and I have never been mugged. So I am wondering what the best way to protect yourself is with regard to carrying (without getting into people's general opinions about stand your ground, concealed carry, etc.)
  20. Unless Braun comes out and says that he's been using his whole career going back to college, my guess is that the majority out there won't believe what he would say anyways. If he says he started using in 2011 (when TJ Quinn reported his relationship with Bosch started), many people will point to his prior lies and will not believe that it has only been going on for about 2 years. So even if he does hold a press conference when he's able, it won't really do a whole lot. This will take many years, many clean drug tests, and many "good deeds" before the dislike dies down.
  21. Did anyone go to this and/or get his autograph?
  22. The happy youngster...apparently there's poetic justice for Chris Coughlin after all. I thought that was his real name... ahh the irony.
  23. Yeah, if you don't have a prior written commitment that he'll sign the ball then I wouldn't send it. For something like that, you pretty much have to get the autograph in person. I'd look for a public signing. Either that or try getting it signed if you go to any away games. A lot of times, you can get autographs at the team hotel or as the players are entering the stadium, if not during batting practice itself. Players generally will sign more on the road, since there are fewer Brewers fans there.
  24. I am looking to buy some kind of a high-quality photo (either digital or hard copy 8x10) of Ryan Braun. I am looking specifically for photos of him celebrating the walk-off grand slam against Pittsburgh on 9-25-08 (for example, maybe something like the photo below). Does anyone have a photo like this or know where I might be able to get one? I would eventually be looking to get this photo signed. I generally prefer to get my own autographs, so I'd probably prefer an unsigned copy, but I may be open to buying a signed copy if the price is right. I currently have a couple pictures of Braun celebrating his big homer in the 9-28-08 win, along with ticket stubs from that epic 9-28-08 game and from the 9-25-08 walk-off grand slam. I currently have one of my 9-28-08 pics signed by Braun, and a Fielder/Braun dual photo from that game signed by Fielder (still need to get Braun on there). I also have my 9-28-08 ticket signed by Braun. So my ultimate goal is to get Braun to sign the one with Fielder, and also have him sign a pic from 9-25-08 along with that ticket stub, and frame everything in one large frame to remember that run at the end of 2008 to get us into the playoffs.
  25. Yes, but a decent number of them may not want to. Especially guys like Gomez and Segura who are always giving 110%.
