  1. Plunking players is not classy! Oh wait, the Cardinals do it all the time... my bad!
  2. Took me a second.... So the Potawatomi banner was covered as they are protesting the Braves/Indians team names... (Couldn't figure out what "Poto" was for a while...)
  3. Sorry Principessa... that just made me like Griffy more! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  4. Excellent news on Cappy... Cool, soon we can get our 4 Lefty+Gallardo starting lineup going!
  5. We have had an unusually warm spring this year. Have a normal spring and you will use the roof 5 times per week early in the season.
  6. Well, if it flies like the Brewers play recently, they either just sit on the runway, or they overshoot the airport by 10 hours...
  7. I don't know Papelbon's history or anything, so I'll answer this generically: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If Papelbon had injury issues and could only throw so many innings, what indication would you have that its changed now? Braddock is kind of in that seat right now, too. Its one thing to bounce Braddock around, as he hasn't established himself in the MLB yet. But Papelbon is one of the best RPs in the business. Its a big risk to take a known quantity, pay him lots of money to be an unknown quantity.
  8. twobrewers, I agree on Lawrie. Sure, he is young, but then I don't get why the Brewers are pushing him up so fast. Sure, potential is there, but production is pretty luke warm. But I disagree with the depth view. Sure the upper echelon isn't as high as we had in the past, but I think the group rated as 6-28 is pretty tight in terms of talent. You could probably change people 5 spots in that group and not blink an eye. That is where your depth comes from. A deep group of players that project to average MLB talent. Rather than looking at them 1-50 (when comparing to previous Power50s), looking at them as A,B,C prospects would show a higher number of B and high C type prospects than in the past, IMO.
  9. I think it is impossible to call any heart surgery minor. We can just hope for the surgery to be successful with no complications, and for Ueck to make a full and speedy recovery.I think you mean any heart surgery is serious. There are major and minor degrees of everything. My daughter had heart surgery as a baby and it was considered pretty minor as heart surgeries go... Aortic valve replacement (and aortic narrowing or something like that) sounds pretty major, but I know its a pretty common surgery also. Come back strong Ueck!
  10. Based on our rotation in the off-season, I was ready to trade for him. Not saying I was predicting this, but I thought he would be better than last year (FB speed still there, etc). I think Liriano is legit. He won't sustain this, but I think he has recovered. However, I think a long term deal is premature. He is an injury risk: 1- as a pitcher, 2 - as a previously injured pitcher. They are probably better off letting him pitch out the year and flipping him for prospects. With the Mauer deal, I don't think they can risk a large bad contract on him.
  11. there is no replacement for Ueck... Hopefully this is something minor.
  12. Just goes to prove how un-classy it is to untuck your jersey. I'm sure it caused the injury...
  13. He did get $600K to sign.Man I feel bad for the Brewers. Wonder if they regret him not taking that football scholarship to FSU? (there, homer's statement is corrected) http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  14. Does FIP and xFIP take into account the AL vs NL difference (i.e. facing the DH)? With a 1.71 WHIP, I'd agree with your last statement...
  15. Don't forget DD is leading our pitching staff in RBIs this season also... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  16. You also get Uecker on the MLB audio feed.... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  17. I do think Uecker has shown his age in the past couple years. But he still is better than our TV crew and MILES ahead of the ESPN crew... I'm just worried that if we DFA him, he will spend a year in NY, then settle for the Twins. And chat rooms will be filled with love/hate messages for him and discussions on whether he is a traitor or not or ... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  18. As a country bumpkin (and lived in Milwaukee, Chicago area, Munich Germany), I've never understood the "beautiful skyline" of a city comment. Take me to the Rockies or Alps and I'll show you a beautiful skyline. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif But even so. If MP was in Minneapolis, you could still see the skyline with the roof open. Less of it for sure. But not like its covered completely. The sheer height of the left field bleachers must be at least as high as the walls at MP...
  19. Not really, the difference is negligible.Yeah, but that doesn't mean its a good thing... I remember freezing while sitting at a County Stadium game in April (free Kool-Aid game if you remember those) and seeing ~8,000 fans on a Sunday afternoon. And when you drive from a good distance away, its nice you know the game will be held... Maybe the draw of open air will draw more people during the nice weather instead of going to the dome. But I've got to believe most April seasons with cold/rainy weather will draw worse compared to a park like MP...
  20. Somehow, this just screams temporary move to me. Its almost like there is a bigger move on the horizon that maybe one of a couple options. And moving Stetter to the AAA club is just a way of letting them figuring out which next move to make. But that is just a gut feeling. So between the options of Stetter and Villanueva to send to AAA, its a toss-up to me. But I think Stetter has better long term potential.
  21. I'd like to see what Green can do at 2B, myself. I think its a better chance that Gamel sticks at 3B than Lawrie sticks at 2B. But if both Weeks and McGehee continue playing as they have, both are blocked at current positions. Perhaps a trade will work itself out. I'm thinking that Gamel's best chance to get to the MLB is with another team. Macha seemed to sour on him last year.
  22. It appears that Narveson has taken over Stetter's role as primary LOOGY, while Stetter gets little work and Parra gets none. Actually, Stetter has been used as the LOOGY - one batter and done. Narveson has been used in multiple batter/multiple inning situations. Parra is the eat-some-innings-because-we-are-way-behind guy. Doesn't look like Macha has any confidence in Parra at this point... But I agree that Suppan should be in Parra's current role, Parra in Narveson's and Narveson's in Suppan's role as starter.
  23. Unfortunately, BC was not depleted offensively and Wisconsin was (at least for one game). But back to BB. The last few years (and maybe still a bit today), there was a major void in pitching in the system. But we had a number of good bats. And we found out how expensive it was to "buy" pitching with minor league position players. Hopefully, soon we will have a backup of pitching that can be used to back-fill some position player spots. Obviously, we would prefer to have both, but I think we are better off having a good supply of pitchers than the other way around.
  24. Nice to see Arnett get some publicity on MiLB.com. He is the headliner for today's preview on the home page. Followed by stories of Strasburg's and Chapman's debuts. Hopefully he has as much success as them... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Also, old habits die hard... I just glanced at Beloit's standings instead of Wisconsin's...
