  1. I read that they can't offer Leno more than half an hour because O'Brien has a clause in his contract stating that his show will start no later than 12:05.
  2. Affiliates were talking about not airing the show; NBC had to do something to keep them happy. Leno's show may have been profitable for the network but they can't afford to have affiliates abandoning them or they've got nowhere to air their lineup.
  3. I don't think Vlad should be playing the field any more; the NL would not be a good fit.
  4. There was just a story in Newsweek (I think.. don't have it on my desk any more) about Comcast's purchase of NBC that basically made this point.. the current group of 15-20 year olds may never sign up for cable TV. They mentioned that there are negotiations underway for a "Hulu"-type site that would include the premium cable channels. [They noted that Comcast could basically destroy Hulu now, either intentionally or through incompetence, but Comcast claims they have no plans to make any changes] Here's the story
  5. re: Damon, I heard Gammons on Dan Patrick's show the other day and he speculated that "one of the Midwest teams like Minnesota or Milwaukee" would end up with Damon.
  6. Seems the only place I can find cans of the throwback stuff around here is at Walgreen's. Pic 'n' Save and Sentry have the 20-oz. plastic bottles but they apparently couldn't find any spot on the shelves for the 12-packs of aluminum.
  7. Hardicourt says no ongoing talks with Mariners in his latest blog post Link
  8. I agree.. I'm not against trading Gamel but I'd like a better return.
  9. " If you remember he was signed after the Brewers lost a season when three starters went down. The one thing they needed badly at the time was a guy who would take the ball every 5th day. " This is exactly the case.. Melvin was so scarred by the Eveland/Hendrickson experience that he made it his top priority to make sure he had "healthy" pitchers.
  10. The current rumor is that Seattle is getting Lee. http://blog.seattlepi.com/baseball/archives/188201.asp?source=mypi
  11. I'm 40 and I love Glee, not so much for the music stuff but for the dark comedy. The musical performances just mean I get a couple minutes break from paying attention.
  12. Consumer Reports top ratings are for Troy-Bilt and Craftsman (and I think those are both manufactured by the same company); talked to Sears earlier this week and the model that CR rated has been discontinued. I'll be doing some shopping myself this weekend. Bought my father a Toro last year and I think he's pretty happy with it.
  13. Foxsports says the talk is real but the Mets need to add another pitcher to give them the depth to trade Maine. They sign Wolf, we get Maine as consolation prize?
  14. FoxSports reporting Brewers' making strong push for Wolf.
  15. per Fox Sports They've let Murton go to pursue a contract in Japan and may trade Spilborghs.
  16. Rosenthal says Brewers are not in on Jackson. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/10475170
  17. He said something about being led to believe he'd be catching four out of five starters.
  18. for player to be named. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/10458522/Rays-get-C-Shoppach-from-Indians
  19. I didn't hear much of it; presumably it will be posted at the website [espnmilwaukee.com] eventually. In what I did hear, there was some discussion of possibly trading for a Braves pitcher, more talk about pitchers batting eighth (batting order up to Macha but all the math says you'll score 30 more runs with the pitcher batting eighth), talk about Kendall (such a gamer, he wanted to play every day even though the club thought he might be better off with more rest), and more "If Rickie could stay healthy and get 500-600 at bats he'd be awesome" talk.
  20. Doug is on WAUK right now and it sounded like the Halama deal is not official yet (Needles asked him if the two deals were official and Doug responded "Capuano is.")
  21. Drew Olson said on the radio this morning that Garner called the Astros to put in a good word for Bob Melvin and they asked him if he was a candidate. He told them he was interested if they were.
  22. Melvin's on WSSP right now, said they will be pursuing starting pitching but also indicated there's a possibility the same group will be back. Sounded generally supportive of (or at least willing to make excuses for) Macha... players are brand new to him, he's never managed NL-style before, not his fault Rickie got injured, etc. Said he won't just give JJ away if he decides to trade him. Noted that Escobar/Gamel have options left. Thinks it will be hard to keep both Escobar and Hardy at the ML level and get maximum production from them. Said people are currently scouting JJ; people will call to ask if he's playing that day.
  23. Doug's always put a priority on finding "dependable" pitchers, which is one of the reasons they signed Suppan. The injury problems in the rotation this season have no doubt increased his sensitivity to the issue. I think it's only natural he will want to bring back the guy who's likely to have led the team in innings pitched.
  24. Sessions signs 4-year, $16M offer sheet with T'wolves.
  25. Boston has a song called "Don't look back".. don't remember the intro though.
