  1. Well I was really wondering why everyone thinks Shaw will be traded. But when I look at the Twinkies situation, I could actually see them wanting Shaw (I don't know much about Sano). So Gibson and Dozier for Shaw and Ortiz? They get three controllable years of Shaw.
  2. I know the reliever isn't a rental. Does it seem like a referendum that the Pirates do not think that highly of the Brewers (and/or DBacks)?
  3. Seems to me that multiple moves like that would end up clearing a good chunk of the farm out. Shaws value can't be that high to the point where he can be a centerpiece of a trade for Archer. I'm more hoping they end up trading Thames.. Yeah, I see this trading of Shaw pop up now and I don't get it. I realize he is arby cheap for the next three years, but his value isn't going to drive a trade for a big pitcher. Selling teams are going to want younger and more controlled players back in a trade. The teams that will value him the most, are teams that are temporarily down this year, but they plan to be in the playoff hunt next year and ongoing. Not too many, if any, of those around. Someone like the Nationals, if they decided to sell and if Rendon wasn't there.
  4. Well I can understand moving him to the pen when we had six starters. But now that Suter is done (and Albers is supposedly back), I would definitely move him back to AAA to get stretched out. Bring back Houser/Wilkerson/Asher to eat innings in lopsided games. Woodruff and Burnes to be ready for when Peralta hits innings limit and/or another starter gets injured. If everyone stays healthy, now Burnes has experience coming out of the bullpen and he will be that much better for it when he does that in September.
  5. Curious on how you calculated surplus value. You must be estimated how much he gets in arby in 2019-2020 starting with his $5.6M this year?..... Are we concerned that is K's per 9 innnings is down ~10-14%? Thats about the biggest change in this years stats to his history.
  6. As best I can tell, Jungmann is leading the Eastern League of Japan baseball in ERA. By quite a margin too. 1.43 and everyone else is 2.94 or more. That is at about 75 innings.
  7. My issue with a guy like Gonzales is that pretty much every pitcher in the rotation is Gonzales. Who does he replace? I think Stearns made it pretty clear that they weren't going to acquire a starter unless he was an obvious upgrade over what they already had available. I think I'd rather just give Woodruff a shot in the rotation over trading assets for a guy like Gonzales. Well, I highly doubt Peralta is going to continue starting through the end of the season. I have my doubts about the Wade Miley smoke and mirrors show (that has worked so far). Maybe Guerra has fallen back to earth or tweaked something and will continue to have bouts where he can't throw a strike to save his life. I will gladly take a 3.75 pitcher (Gonzales, or whoever) to help us to the finish line this year, on the basis it doesn't cost too much. Personally, I was going with MadBum. Just no Harvey or Zimmerman (unless Tigers pay for everything) please.
  8. https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-trade-deadline/c-281084458?partnerId=ed-12932326-1086859403 J.T. Realmuto: Nats not out yet The Nationals' trade talks with the Marlins about their All-Star catcher could be going on right up until the Deadline. The door is still open for a Realmuto deal between Washington and Miami, as reported by Heyman on Sunday. But the asking price appears to be at least the Nats' top two prospects -- outfielder Victor Robles (No. 5 overall, per MLB Pipeline) and infielder Carter Kieboom (No. 35 overall). The Nationals would consider trading at least one, per Heyman. But would they part with both? So for you guys that can figure this out, would Hiura, Woodruff/Ortiz, Diplan/Supak and Nottingham be close to a Robles and Kieboom (not that the Nats have agreed to give that up) value-wise? If Peralta was switched in, would that be that much more than Woodruff/Ortiz? Personally, I was thinking we are so left-handed now, I really want a righty stick. But Realmuto has actually been better against righties in 2016 and 2018. Obviously, he is is still better than Pina/Kratz whichever way we are going. But not a big split to help offset against Cubs/Dodgers starting pitching.
  9. Burnes is going to have to pitch multiple innings today. No Lopez no Houser. On the second relief pitcher and still in the fifth inning.
  10. Not to make this the trading forum page, I would say the Marlins can take which two they want from that list and also have Nottingham (I assume they need a catcher if trading one off).
  11. He shook off pina against posey and the then missed the location right in the wheelhouse.
  12. Not left field, across the diamond. Madison Bumgarner
  13. Brewers keep Will Smith on bench whole series. Go ahead and trade for him DS. Burnes down to stretch out. Edit- tack on MadBaum while at it
  14. And for a position player, several (including myself) were also wondering why bringing back Neil Walker wasn't considered and he went cheap a couple weeks into spring training. Not sure what your point is here. But I want to make sure you know that Walker has sucked this year (I can't tell if sarcastic). I know in some of the other threads people don't realize how bad he has been this year.
  15. Sandberg played his first 3 seasons in the minors at SS. Much easier transition from SS to 2B. Shaw said he played SS in high school! Not that it matters I was only half listening, but I thought he made it sound like it was a couple of games - not a full season or anything.
  16. That's not how it works. Basically you are minimizing one of Shaws better assets, his arm/accuracy. His lack of range isn't as much of a factor at 3B as it will be exposed at 2b. Think you are shoehorning too much to try and force some offense. Well we sure will see teams rearrange their rotation to use their lefties against us. Hope Braun capitalizes.
  17. Yeah if he goes south, Jeffress is going to be at 35 pitches before someone is ready after pitching last night.
  18. Yeah, the Royals are not going anywhere in 2019, so why retain him? I assume he is a home grown player, so there is that. He also is not eligible for arby until 2020. So he is an extremely cheap player. So I assume the Royals will try to milk another year before trading him.
  19. They could ramp up Burnes if someone else got hurt. In fact, I probably would regardless if anyone got hurt, since they acquired Soria. Send him down beginning of August and get him stretched out. Bring him up in three weeks to replace Peralta. Woodruff remains the #6 option. Wilkerson #7. Houser/Lopez/Asher combo is #8.
  20. I see Kodi went from being #13 in the Brewers farm system (per mlb.com) to #19 in the White Sox system. That was his ranking after the revisions they just made to include draft picks and move players up and down.
  21. There have been teams that have traded for a player before the deadline and then lost some games, so they then traded that same player away and became a seller. I think worrying about 40 man roster spots that will occur months in the future, is a little deep in the woods for your run of the mill article on a player trade you are going to see online. So one would never know how much it may have dictated a trade. You have to be dorks like us to worry to level of detail.
  22. Last year they were 4 games under .500 and 4.5 games behind the last wildcard playoff spot and they traded away players. Then they went and made the playoffs. So they probably have it in their minds they can come back again this year and make the playoffs.
