  1. The only thing we have going for us (to get the better draft pick) when we play a contending team is that RR puts out his best team (which means Yuni) to try and win.
  2. If you are saying Hart is only going to cost $4M to sign for the whole year, sure I can get behind that. If you are saying that will be what the Brewers pay until they trade him, then I have a problem. I'd say the chances that he is injured or nonproductive are over 50%, which means you are going to eat the full contract. I don't assume Hart is better (and definitely not clearly better) than out internal options. The only problem is making sure that RR knows who the best internal options is/are. He was playing Yuni against the contending teams in a pennant chase, because RR feels he is our best 1B. Arghhh. I would go into training camp assuming that 1B will be a platoon of Halton and Gamel/Green/Morris/Francisco (if he won't get much in arby) and see how things play out.
  3. I think with your scenario, we could be over .500 if ARam was healthy and produced somewhat close to 2012. But I don't see a competent replacement if he isn't that.
  4. I agree exactly with what you have posted, other than that Schafer would be the late inning defensive replacement. I don't think we will get a lot for Aoki, but it would be something, plus the savings of $1.5M.
  5. I think it was more of -> I assume he was hot and the pitchers hadn't figured out where to pitch him yet then it is that he is tired from playing winter ball and the season to date. But I also concede that some of the dropoff is probably coming from playing so long in duration. As I said in the sign him long-term now thread way, way back when - it is too early and give it at least a year. Now at least we probably know what is the floor of performance we can get from Segura and I would be willing to now pay Segura long-term assuming that most years he will be around .285/.325/.425. If that doesn't work for him, then we can let it ride a few more years before we are even close to free agency.
  6. Exactly. But he is still out there attempting steals. I would put the red light on him for the season. He has the title wrapped up anyway, doesn't he.
  7. The whole poll is out of whack that you can't put any stock into the numbers. Under their definition we should at least have a big "mgmt" number, and the finance number is under where are actual payrolls have been also. I tried to make some sense of it, but there is no point. Basically you can figure three guys at ESPN really don't like Milwaukee (Braun and the minors - Law).
  8. Obviously this isn't probable, but, if ARam stays healthy and has a decent season next year and the Brewers still don't have any other decent options, he may just still be with the team in 2015. True, his cost will be $14M, but the real cost is $10M as the $4M option is gone regardless. If he doesn't merit $10M on the market from anyone, the Brewers can renegotiate to an amount less than the $10M for just 2015. Of course if he is having a decent season next year, unless the Brewers are in it, they will trade him.
  9. The only way they trade Lohse is if they throw in the towel (which no one thinks MA will do), then they should also trade ARam and Aoki and get rid of Weeks to whoever will take the least cash included. I say that because after this year, I don't see them trusting a rotation of Gallardo, Estrada, Peralta, and two of Thornburg/Hellweg/Nelson to get us to close to a wildcard.
  10. they dont bring someone up that they have no future plans for because whats the point?? the brewers are only responsible for compensation while under contract. if Lalli gets called up today, gets hurt in Milwaukee tomorrow and lands on the DL for the rest of the season, they are responsible to pay him for the remaining contract for this season. If Milwaukee then decides to cut ties with Lalli in October, instead of keeping him in the minors next year, they are not responsible for any compensation beyond the expiration of the current contract. so no, they would not owe Lalli anything next year if they cut ties with him, regardless if he gets hurt or not in Milwaukee. So to clarify if he gets an ACL injury and isn't officially cleared by doctors until next July, the Brewers wouldn't have to pay him anything for 2014?
  11. I think I would spend that $1.5M extra (over min.wage) to keep Badenhopp instead of counting on every single one of the pre-arby young guys to be healthy and pitching decent next year. So if a combination of Thornburg/Blazek/Wooten/Hand/Figaro(?) doesn't have a good spring we aren't trying to find a pen guy late and they are stashed in the minors for the inevitable injury or performance issue. It shouldn't be a big deal to trade away Badenhop if all the pitchers are healthy and the young guys are performing. You just want to keep Badenhop away from lefties as much as you can. The other scenario would be if the FO feels they want to sign a different veteran bullpen guy who is better or cheaper than they can let Badenhop walk.
  12. Blazek is a much better player than what I thought the Brewers would get for Axford. Makes me wonder if the Cardinals see something they can fix with Ax and were willing to pay the price.
  13. What would happen if Lalli had a major injury while up and missed a year? I assume the Brewers would be on the hook for the min. wage for next season or something similar injury settlement.?... If so, I assume that is the reason they don't bring someone up that they have no future plans for.
  14. I don't see the Brewers getting much back, so I don't think Melvin would limit his options.
  15. He wasn't going to be offered arby next year anyways, so I don't think anyone was counting him in the 40 man projection anyways.
  16. As far as I know the issue with Krush is that he doesn't have the arm for RF. So there is no "learning the position" for him, as that isn't going to improve his arm strength. Put me down in the trade Aoki camp and Braun, Gomez, Davis, Gindl and Schafer will be the 5 outfielders, even though I don't think Aoki will bring much back alone.
  17. I don't see how the Brewers could trade Weeks for "nothing" without paying at least half of his contract next year. At that rate he would be worth the risk, but I guess I would still do it just to make sure that RR couldn't play him every day let his option kick in. I am fine with trading Aoki for whatever we can get. We have multiple options that will be min. wage that could play a corner spot to approx what he will provide. I would bring Axford back, but only for $2.5M or less. I am torn about Hart. This would have been an easy decision to go young if Morriss would have hit a bit better in AAA or Fransisco could field a lick or Davis could play 1B or if it seemed RR would actually play Halton. I wouldn't mind a true incentive laden deal, but you know it will be based on games played if there is something in the deal and RR will just play him everyday even if he has lost his hitting.
  18. Those guys can all play more than one position, and don't make a ton more than the min wage of $490K. If Gennett isn't the starting 2B on your team, does he have any value? I suppose if the starting 2B could move over to SS in a pinch, then you can bring Gennett in to play 2B off the bench. I agree that have a pre-arby min wage guy taking a spot helps out the team budget, but if he is an average defender with a .700 ops, he would also be a player the club would probably target to replace at the latest by his last 1-2 arby years.
  19. I'd pick up his option, but would not assume he is the starter next year. My guess for 2014 is that he will provide a line that would be the average of last year and this year. It wouldn't take much to pry him away from me in a trade.
  20. I'm not saying Braun won't get traded. But if he isn't traded before spring camp, I don't see the Brewers trading him at all (or within the next few years).
  21. It's a long shot if either of those two is in the rotation next year, but my money's on Narveson. I wouldn't consider Estrada a long shot. He showed me enough in 2011 and 2012 that he gets the benefit of the doubt and would get "first dibs" when compared to Narveson.
  22. I would also non-tender, which was why I am a little cheesed off that Melvin didn't trade him in mid-July when he had value. I believe some team will roll the dice and give him at least $2M for 2014. If two of Hand/Gorz/Thornburg are in the pen in 2014, we should be covered when Axford and Gonzelez are gone. 2+ Henderson, Kintzler, Wooten, Badenhop, Figaro/J.Sanchez/Heckathorn.
  23. 45 minus Gonzalez, Betancourt, Hart. I wouldn't risk Gamel (unless Hart signed) or Estrada. I would keep Badenhop. I don't think they would protect Olmstead or Lalli. I don't have any idea what is up with M DLS or Manzanillo.
  24. Looks like they skipped Nelson two starts since he was moved to AAA, so he should have innings available to the big club. He is at 118 currently. I know the Brewers have been "stingy" in the past, but I would assume they would have Gennett (if goes back down), Prince, Lalli (catcher) and Halton up as positional reserves.
  25. If it is going to happen, 2014 would be the perfect opportunity. You know Braun isn't going to make any waves about it as he will want to keep a low profile.
