  1. Well Downs is better than Gonzalez, but it sure would have been nice for Melvin to somehow gotten to Atlanta first. They could have kicked in something substantial to boot for Rasmus, as he would make a lot less than Axford in 2014.
  2. Obviously. But for not playing a game, if he wants to come back to play for Milwaukee, he couldn't have had a better season by his replacements as incentive for Melvin to want him back.
  3. Why are the Brewers not playing Francisco at 3B to see if he can hack it? It sounded like an option when he was picked up. Assuming the Brewers have scouted him thoroughly and know he can't hack 3B, at least play Bianchi there. If we come into next season without ARam and then Francisco is handed the job at 3B and can't hack it, I will blow my top.
  4. Except everyone knows $10 in concessions probably costs the team $1 or less in actual cost. Doubt this promotion costs them more than $500k. I assume the Brewers have some revenue splitting deal with the vending company that wouldn't be close to them getting 90% of sales. I would just guess 40% with no information. The vendor still has to pay the employees, buy the food and make their own profit.
  5. It would seem the worst case scenario of J.Francisco or T. Green or J. Bianchi plugging the giant hole. But, yes, hopefully they would find a 3B for someone they trade away this season.
  6. With Melvin's history as a GM, I don't see him trading a pitcher with more than a half a year under contract(lohse and yo) unless he gets a AAA that is MLB ready. He still needs to put out a respectable starting 5 next year. And no, Peralta, Estrada, Fiers, Burgos, Hand, Thornburg or some combo isn't what he will walk into 2014 with. We all know that. I agree he won't trade both without getting at least one pitcher back that will start next year, but I could see him trade one and not get a 2014 starter back, especially if they got rid of ARam and Aoki and were reloading for 2015. They would have a shakedown year to figure out 1B, 3B, and the young starters. They would have Lohse/Gallardo, Peralta, Estrada, and two of: Gorz, Hand, Fiers, Burgos, Thornburg, Nelson, Hellweg.
  7. That would be my guess also. I don't think $4.4M for 2013 and $11M for 2014 and 2015 is going to scare away too many of the playoff teams.
  8. No, but you could say that Peralta has pitched a 2.52ERA (if I did my math correctly) his last 64.2 innings (the months of June+July). So I am more confident each time out on what you can plan for from Peralta in 2014.
  9. I can't find it, where did anyone say we should keep our relievers? If Melvin doesn't trade KRod, Gonzalez, and Axford then he should get canned. KRod and Gonzalez are free agents and Axford probably won't be offered arby.
  10. The funny thing is, who's to say they wouldn't have drafted Devin Williams at #19 anyway? Per the draft special on FSN, it was pretty clear they valued him that high. I guess we'll have to monitor picks in that general area in the long run to see what we "missed out" on. As was stated earlier, if the Brewers had their first round draft pick, what are the chances they would have spent as much on the international signings? I think you have to look with a wide focus, and it seems to me that the Brewers have done well so far with the signing, and if he ends up being traded away for anything remote equivalent to a 1st round pick, then they will have done very well. They had him in case he was what was needed to push them over the top, the rest of the team didn't cooperate.
  11. I wouldn't limit who the Brewers get back in a trade to a pitcher if it meant taking that much back less in talent. Especially if we can get a 3B prospect.
  12. I am a little leery about putting all our eggs in the Juan Francisco at 3B basket. But if ARam can't move....
  13. 1.4 years or 0 years if he is never healthy. And yes, when we are talking about an older guy (but still younger than me), I would not assume he will "heal" to 100% baseball shape.
  14. Could the Brewers trade him away for a bag of balls right now? No, I don't think they could. So he has negative value. If he comes back on July 22 and plays well for 10 games and some team is desperate, then we could trade him for something. But if he comes back and still needs games off and still isn't hitting, then we would not get a trade for him. One thing is, he will clear waivers so we can trade him after the deadline.
  15. The chances of competing are 29.4%. First of all the division would seem to be getting tougher, so that is a negative. I guess I consider the below items to be the variables that have the most chance at effecting the most wins/losses for the team. The offense needs a full year of Braun, and one of Weeks/ARam to have a good year, and not too much of a dropoff for Gomez and Segura. The pitching needs Gallardo to return to form, Lohse to retain his (assuming we have both of them still) and one of Estrada or Peralta to be a playoff-level #3 starter. There should hopefully be enough bodies to man the bullpen/#5 starter role at least close to average. We will still be a team that needs to outscore more often than outpitch the other team.
  16. I blame ARam's knee and Harts knees for not allowing us to get some prospects in here. I don't blame anyone for hoping that 2 out of: Peralta, Fiers, Burgos, Narveson would be average in the rotation. You had to try and see what would happen, it wasn't like we could afford to sign multiple free agent pitchers in the offseason. So when Gallardo and Estrada's hamstring go to pot there is anywhere much to blame other than our media contract or the pitching coach.
  17. I guess it depends if you think the Brewers are going to compete in 2014. If you don't, I would unload him for the best offer whatever it may be and give Schafer the reins for the rest of the season. It would be better to find how his bat will play now, when planning for 2015. You still have Gindl and Halton as backups.
  18. His contract is $11M each year of his contract. That is not back-ended contract. ARam has a back-ended contract. A team picking up Lohse would pick up approx $4.3M for this year and $11M for 2014 & 2015. The Brewers may include money to get a better prospect or may package with someone that has negative value, but there is definitely positive value in his contract at this point. And if I was a playoff team and all I cared about was the results I would get from the pitcher this season, I would rather have Lohse then Gallardo.
  19. Nobody is talking about that kind of rest. I think he should get four days off a month during Aug/Sept. As for learning the grind, Segura was playing ball in South America so he didn't get the full time off to begin with.
  20. As I noted he is more valuable than Nolasco, but Gallardo is much less valuable than he was going into the season, and then you tack on his DUI for good measure.
  21. I agree that Gallardo will get a lot more in return than Nolasco, but I also don't think you should look at career stats when comparing the two. As Gallardo has definitely lost something this year and I wouldn't assume it ever returns if I am trading for him. And if Nolasco is pitching decent this year, well you are trading for him for the playoff run for 2013, you don't care how he pitched in 2010, etc.
  22. I wouldn't consider losing Hart a fail (especially massive) by Melvin. How is anyone supposed to know that not one but both legs would give out on Hart? It wasn't like they were planning on him in the OF, where you would need him to be able to run. And if you have the 2012 production you had from Hart, ARam, Braun, Gallardo and Estrada this year, there was every reason to think the Brewers could be competitive and if they fell a little short, they would still be able to get something for Hart at the deadline.
  23. I have no idea how good the prospects you list are, but if we are able to get rid of Lohse, ARam, and Weeks in one tranx, without picking up salary - I really don't know how much positive value there is. I would assume we would kick in a reliever to get anyone of consequence. Even if the Dodgers don't care about spending, they know the Brewers (and pretty much everyone else) have to, hence they can negotiate with the leverage. I assume the Brewers would probably pick up some of ARam's contract.
  24. But Henderson is cheap for two more years, which is more important to the Brewers than the Tigers. The Brewers should be looking to sell Ax and KRod first, unless some team wants Henderson specifically. I think most teams that are looking for bullpen help, would maybe prefer the guys that have been in the playoffs before anyways.
  25. Gallardo has the Orioles on his no-trade list. Not saying he won't waive it, but he might want something for it, which would then mean you get less for him.
