  1. Gameday frozen for Biloxi. But Wichrowski gives up a hit in the 4th, then a "hit?" (error by EBJ, ugh) and men on the corners. So instead of 2 down from a GIDP, it was 2 on. Wichrowski gets a ground out (should have been out 3), for the first out and a runs scores. Then a couple more outs, and it's only 2-0 Childers 1-2-3 5th inning.
  2. Watched Shane Smith performance tonight. Cruising through the first 3. In the 4th a slap base hit and Simpson is on which messes with Smith. He steals a base. Big K, but then seems to lose command. Either the base runner messed up his timing, or the long inning and pitch count lost his effectiveness (fatigue; focus?). He struggled. But was still hitting 94 on a couple in that inning according to the announcer. Just starting to lose fastball and off speed stuff in terms of location. None of the hits were major contact though.
  3. But Biloxi reminds me of the ‘22 brewers. If the starter does not have a shutout the team has no chance. And that puts a lot of pressure on the pitcher. Smith looks like he’s hitting some struggles in the 4th - 3 hits and 2 walks and it’s 3-0 Montgomery with Sam Carlson in. 3-0 is a huge huge hole for this offense.
  4. Re: the trades. I was starting to do a write up like this of the 2017 era on. When the brewers accelerated the rebuild by being competitive in 2017 a year or two ahead of the plan. I am traveling now, but off the top of my head, Grisham for Urias/Lauer was a bad trade because of the years Grisham has had since 2020. Lauer had an amazing season split over 2 seasons, and Urias had a great 2021 - and yet to see if Blalock becomes anything. Close but a loss. Kelly for Bush was a disaster, and Kelly has not made a MLB debut so time will tell, but Bush was such a negative. Same for Peters for Rosenthal, who amounted to nothing and Peters is hitting. Fry and Olson were just big time misses. Those will happen, and Adames was a win. But the Tellez trade was a wash. Re: Yelich extension. His extension looming in 2022 may have hampered deals in 2021 to get the team some offensive help in ‘21 and ‘22. His rebound last year and hopefully this year make it easier to take. But that looming contract with down years did hurt the chances of playoff success in ‘21, and along with the Hader trade helped submarine the ‘22 season in my opinion.
  5. TRats still down 1. 9th inning. Wood with a hit and Barrios pinch running gets a steal. One hit could tie this up.
  6. Meanwhile, TRats do get some base runners in the 8th (sorry I mistakenly wrote 9th earlier I thought it was the 9th) and get 3 runs. 5-4 now. Keep I close and let’s see if they can walk it off tonight as well …..
  7. Cardiac Cats are trying Hope and they did walk it off! 13-12. Garcia base loaded hit and 2 runs score How sweep it is :)
  8. Wisconsin had a promising start, HR by Areinamo in the first. But then nothing. No hits. No runs. No nothings since. And now down 5-1 in the 9th.
  9. The answer is yes. Clarke with a tidy 4IP, 4H, 4K, 0BB and 64 pitches. McKendry is in in relief, and Sounds up 7-0 after 6. (Looks like Black with a GS in the 4th)
  10. Henderson had very good control of the at bats I watched. His FB seemed to hit 93/94. I didn’t see him above that, but may have missed it. Knoth was composed in the couple of innings I watched. Maybe overthrowing at times and losing location. He did get a few hard hits and a few hard outs. Ashby was much more in control. Very few ABs where he was lost. Command is not always great, and hasn’t always been, but when he locates and control enough you get those awkward swings. And I saw a few of those last night. His velocity was 92-93 mostly I believe but may have gotten myself confused watching these three young men’s performances. Overall solid outing by the pitching.
  11. Awesome review. I keep getting amazed at what goes into the pitch selection and how these details make or break a pitcher’s success. Also cutter seems to be a Brewers organization focus, or are other teams using it a lot more as well. I appears that a philosophy of the organization is a competent off speed (slider, CB or change up), good FB with movement and add a cutter (or something else that I’m not smart enough to understand). Then analytics to maximize the usage. For a fan of the Brewers starting in the late 80s, seeing the late 90s and earl 00s teams struggle to get competitive pitching (Sheets and Gallardo as the main exceptions), the past 5-10 years has been encouraging.
  12. Great news for both. Congratulations to these two young men. It now means that 4 of the 2023 draft picks are in AA (Wilken, Boeve, Wichrowski, Yoho). That’s impressive less than 1 year from being drafted. 1 or 2 is nice, but 4 is impressive.
  13. Yes. I think it was Toby’s top 40. Remembered the list but forgot it had a title - or there was something like. Although the other thing to remember is that a lot of those prospects were considered legitimate prospects, only in hindsight did we see Brad Nelson, Ben Hendrickson, Dana Eveland fail to live up to the hype. Even more recently Gatewood, Harrison and later C. Ray Brinson, Diaz, L. Ortiz, DiPlan didn’t pan out (although Brinson and Diaz were involved in a trade that got Yelich). So we do have a deeper list, but many may not pan out. Or may pan out for someone else like Jorge Lopez among others. Recency bias can make us think it’s so much better. But I know it was stacked 2004-2006, felt good 2007-2009. And again 2016-2018. Those years were pretty top notch - Woodruff, Burnes, Hader and later Williams were ranked those years.
  14. Oof. Tough loss for Carolina. I can’t watch milb tv right now. But how is Woessner looking? Encouraging BB:K rates. Bunch of hits and only 1 ER - with the errors resulting in 2 unearned runs. Blalock minimizes the damage with no runs after a hit and an error. Biloxi hitless …. Yet to bat ha ha . But I am so used to seeing zeros for them
  15. Yup. Was just about to post the same thing.
  16. K to end it. Mudcats cling to a 4 run first to win 4-3. Good start by Galindez. Then 4 hit night for Juan Baez. Had been in a little slump. Let's get him going.
  17. Very true on Uribe. Explains why they are hitting it- now AAA hitters fouling it, popping it up, but not swinging and misses. In Carolina a very dubious strike 3 on Yophery. Then Pratt weak hit to 3B and throw off base. Now the 3 hit Baez is up. Lets get a few runs. Baez infield hit. 2 on. Let's go.
  18. Carolina leading, but Morris Austin strikes out the first batter. THen struggles, walk, double with an error. Then Sac Fly. 4-3 Mudcats. Hopefully he can escape, and Cats can get a run back. Hopefully
  19. True. They are waiting on his fastball and hitting it - not always well. His slider does not look sharp. But.... Roller walk off HR baby!! Sounds on a roll!
  20. Uribe - broken bat hit, then retires the next couple, then a walk, then gets the last out. Hitting 98-99 consistently. Still 3-3 bottom of 9.
  21. Ashby's outing was not bad. The first 2 innings were clean. Velo up to 94-95. Hit 95 a few times. Scuffled in the third, but not bad. Velo down in the 4th/5th and control eluded him in the 6th. But 5.1 innings and 2 runs allowed, with only 3 BB - each when he just couldnt' find the zone. He as around the zone most of the night. As far as live - what? Jared Walsh - he of all of 4 homers on the season - with 3 of those HRs the last two nights. I don't know. Tied 3-3.
  22. And like that - he hangs a breaking ball that was crushed over the LF fence.
  23. They have been hard to watch. Despite having talent. Boeve, Wilken, Brown along with EMJ should have more firepower, but it’s been blanks so far except for a few games here and there. This is a team that feels like a no hitter against or a shutout against every day. Wes Clarke was the only offensive threat. When hurt and then when promoted he took what semblance of offense with him. Sigh. Maybe Carolina can get more consistent, but that line up is showing some potential. Wisconsin scuffling today. And against South Bend in general. Which is odd. Maybe Lara was more of a key cog than his underlying numbers indicated. I haven’t watched yet. But Ashby had to feel ok with his outing today just based on game numbers, right?
  24. And they get 2 more runs. Bitonti strikes out - ugh. But DiTuri triples for his 3rd hit and OPS 1.200. He his having a great start. Top 7. 10-4 baby brewers. ‘Wait. Game day froze up on me. It’s 15-4. Baby brewers get 7 in that inning two HR for Johan Barrios - his first 2 HR
