  1. I know we like to limit the amount of threads out there, so I'll put this here for now. Chad Cody pitched eight innings today, allowing one run and four hits with six K's and only one walk. The guy might be looking at a promotion soon. I am hopefuly he can be Chris Capuano, the Cappy that we all liked and that was a #2/#3 starter for us.
  2. I just read somewhere that Seattle wants the same type of package for Bedard as Peavy, basically implying that they will be marketing him as if he is equal to Peavy.
  3. I agree Peavey. However, we need to still consider a deal like this if offered to us and weigh whether or not it is worth it. Corey Hart is currently our #7 hitter, so I am not sure Cat/Gerut couldn't be just fine hitting in that slot.
  4. Yep, I doubt we can get Cain, but Jonathan Sanchez would be very nice to have for more than a couple years.
  5. Not who you want to be our catcher, but who do you think actually will be our main catcher? Do you think we ultimately resign Kendall and give him the majority of the starts next year or do you think we go with either Rivera or Salome?
  6. Just thought this'd be a guy we could use a thread on to follow. Many thought he'd regress to a sub .250 hitter at AAA. He's proving he "gets it" and seems to be more of a base stealing threat each year. I love JJ as much as all, but you need to trade someone good to get someone good. If JJ's spot in the order is going to be second anyway, we might as well long term plan on handing the SS duties and number two in the order spot to this guy imho. Thoughts on Escobar and his season thus far? Anyone seen him play any games in AAA yet?
  7. Trwi7 - I read that more as Melvin wanting to see if this team can make the playoffs without help (and without having to give up valuable commodities). He knows we're a good team. He doesn't know if we need Peavy to get into the playoffs or if the team as it is now (with maybe another minor upgrade somewhere) can get to the playoffs.
  8. Am I the only one that would rather have Cain and Escobar instead of just Peavey? That said, I know I'll be ecstatic if/when we do get Peavey.
  9. I like our bench a whole lot more than I did at the start of the season. I think he's still got some hits in the tank. Might even be a .300 hitter yet, and with a bit of gap ability.
  10. Yep, if Macha gets kicked out just once or twice this year, it'll mean he's legitimately peed and will mean much more for "rallying the troops" than would the fake Yost or frequent Pinella ejections.
  11. It doesn't help that Corey Hart, our supposed third best hitter and allstar, is not a good player anymore.
  12. Gerut numbers wise looks like he could realistically put up Cameron/Hardy type numbers in terms of looking at the normal offensive effectiveness categories. This would be based upon a starters' amount of at-bats and of course is looking at the high end of him a bit.
  13. For those that don't know much about Jody, his last name is indeed pronounced "Garrett". I for some dumb reason, before I heard his name a few years back a bit, read it as "Jer-rooo". I guess our Canadien management might like my pronounciation better, but it is pronounced "Garrett" in reality.
  14. He's a great platoon player on even a very good team. But there's only one side of the human body that he should ever see a plate appearance from.
  15. Plenty of moves Yost wouldn't have done that were encouraging. Like the lineup card right away and being willing to pinch hit with Rivera for once are very encouraging to me.
  16. I've always been a huge Weeks fan and supporter and thought the breakout of this year was coming, but Iribarren could very well put up simiilarly productive numbers to what Weeks has put up in previous years if given a chance everyday. Maybe anyway. Your right on Nelson not matching Prince, but I think some of us just hoped he could do a .280, 25, 85 showing in a pinch if we ever were able to fleece someone for Prince and had to do a stopgap for a year. I do not know where I see Gillespie yet. Let's see what he's doing in July before we peg him anywhere for certain. But he's probably a backup OF or trade bait, with the slight chance of improving enough to be a starting corner outfielder.
  17. My guess is both Escobar and Jeffresses stock have taken a hit, as has Green and Gillespie's. But all can bring it right back up in a month.
  18. Not to pick on Macha, who has been great, but this is the second game in a row I felt we could have pinch hit for the pitcher in I believe the sixth because we had a chance to get possible necessary runs. Both games, the pitcher hit and got out and then allowed the first two runners on base. Looks like we might get out of the inning unscathed in consecutive games.
  19. There's several more options, but you have to keep it in house I think. Way too many possible options right in the organization that might be better than the stopgap we target.
  20. I would guess he might be just that TLB. Maybe as soon as next year if not the year after. I still think we should collectively hold out hope that he puts up the type of numbers where we can envision him as a Hart-ish type (minus the speed) as an everyday leftfielder. But, maybe it's more likely that he can become what Nelson was not able to become for us in the role you are proposing.
  21. I think we are becoming quite loaded at the positon. Lawrie was obviously moved there and Cutter Dykstra was moved there as well just last week. Two guys that are likely future MLB players. I imagine we'll just keep Green at 3B and think/know he can move to 2nd in a pinch if ever needed (a la Casey McGehee).
  22. Yeah, the guy had a good spring and deserves to be on the team, but why is he going to get first shot at a platoon at second? He's got to be fourth of the Hall/Gamel/Counsell quartret. Maybe even fifth when you consider Iribarren is coming up having played 2B more and off to a better start offensively (albeit in AAA). I guess it all comes back to wanting Gamel in there everyday for me, but I don't think this guy deserves any bigger role than a spot start once every 7-10 days and maybe a couple additional pinch hitting chances (if our starters don't make it too long into the game).
  23. I am sure the STL crowd enjoyed watching Braun on that catch. I loved his smirk of happiness there and the snow angel pause after the catch as well.
