  1. I'm not concerned about it yet. If I'm a manager of some company, and my boss brings me some worthless snot-nosed hot-shot frat-boy fresh out of college and I'm asked what I think of this kid. I don't care how little I think of him, I'm going to tell everybody he's a good hire. That doesn't mean I don't think he's a worthless snot-nosed hot-shot frat-boy. Edit: I just found this on an old Fangraphs article: His name can be made into the following anagram. Batter Nine You Sucky
  2. Has anybody heard any word yet on the money involved? I'm guessing around $1.5MM, but it may be as high as $2MM, considering the weak market for SS.
  3. This gets me wondering...Could Adam Everett actually field better than Yuniesky Betancourt holding a dog on a leash? Maybe with a small, well behaved dog... I also have images of Adam Everett trying to field while flipping pancakes on a large spatula and balancing on a basketball. That'd probably be similar to Betancourt.
  4. I think you're underestimating just how bad a SS could (theoretically) be. I bet Gamel could pull off Ryan Braun at 3B bad. Oh, and he'd still probably be better than Yuniesky.
  5. In AAA last year, Chapman walked 4.94 per 9 innings. His K/BB ratio was <2.5:1. His GB/FB ratio was 0.97. Not to mention that 26 of his 39 appearances were as a RP. His raw talent is absurd, but his performance in AAA last year was not all that impressive. This guy may have quite a long way to go before dominating major league hitters as a starter.
  6. I'm actually curious whether or not Mat Gamel would be a better choice for this team at SS than Yuniesky. Yuniesky can probably be projected as -15 on both offense and defense, relative to the average player, for -30 total. Gamel might be -40 on defense, but he may be able to pull a +10 on offense. Yet, doing this with Gamel would clearly be idiotic (unless he has a secret ability to play SS, which would be awesome). That's how bad Yuniesky is.
  7. Could you substantiate this view rather than just saying things like "Dickerson didn't even hit a ball hard last year"? I just don't understand why you think he is so terrible.
  8. ^ I wondered about that myself but I just don't see Boras going for it. Fielder would be really valuable to this team for another year, due to the marginal value of a win with a team between 85-90 wins, so it might not be a terrible idea to give him $25MM for a single year.
  9. That's okay, I get Narveson mixed up with Cliff Lee all the time.
  10. I don't think anybody said Dickerson should start in center, simply that he isn't a bad option as a platoon player with Gomez, or at least to get 50-60 starts backing up Gomez. Do you have anything to back up your notion that he's absolutely worthless other than that he struggled in 100 plate appearances last season?
  11. Yuniesky for Nolasco!
  12. What do you base this on? Yeah, he sucked in a few PA's last year. I don't see how penciling in a guy who has a career wRC+ of 101 to put up an OPS+ of 74 is a leap of faith. He was average in 2009.
  13. Betancourt's salary being a sunk cost was already mentioned. I view this as a time that the club could easily improve by 1 win for under $2MM. Punto is probably at least a win better than Yunie over a season and could perhaps be had for 2/$5MM.
  14. Epic title. I'm just picturing a fight breaking out over this. At my family's gatherings, we usually had basic dill pickles, cheap black and green olives, along with veggies and dill dip. If I were you, I'd just hit an olive bar and grab a few things. Maybe some pickles as well. Basically I just think brined/pickled/salty when I think relish tray.
  15. Betancourt is also one of the worst defensive SS's in a long time. Oh, and he gets on base less often than Escobar.
  16. Here's the current FA SS list: Orlando Cabrera (36) - Type B, not offered arb Craig Counsell (40) Bobby Crosby (31) Cristian Guzman (33) Jerry Hairston Jr. (35) Julio Lugo (35) Augie Ojeda (36) Nick Punto (33) Edgar Renteria (34) Cross off Crosby, he's no better than Yuniesky. Cross off Lugo as well. Ojeda is no better than Betancourt. Realistically, any of the following would probably be better than Yuniesky: Orlando Cabrera Craig Counsell Cristian Guzman Jerry Hairson Jr. Nick Punto Edgar Renteria Anybody have estimates as to what it'll take to bring these guys in? I wouldn't mind Nick Punto...I just have no clue what the market for these guys looks like this year.
  17. It has to be. Melvin is not that stupid. Dayton Moore is hardly that stupid.
  18. I'd say more like dating Megan Fox, but she always brings her annoying friend Snooki with her wherever you go.
  19. Our farm has completely run dry, but these next two years should be really fun. When Fielder leaves, that's two picks. If Weeks leaves, that's probably two picks. If Greinke leaves, that's two picks. I'm thinking that unless some of the mid-level prospects hit their stride, 2013-2015 are going to be rough. If they get a division title and a couple playoff appearances (I won't even say the World Series word) out of this, it will absolutely be worth it for me.
  20. So, Weeks McGehee Braun Fielder Hart Lucroy Gomez Betancourt Gallardo Well, that top 5 looks very good. 6-8 might be the worst in the NL.
  21. Melvin can't seriously be planning on using Betancourt at SS. He's like a Carlos Gomez that can't field. He is one of the worst every day position players in Major League Baseball, if not the worst.
  22. Fangraphs has a couple articles up, in case anybody's interested. After a few hours of looking at this, the Brewers gave up far less than I expected they'd have to give up for Greinke. If we forget about how refreshing it was to watch Cain last year, I think we can agree that most likely he profiles as an average MLB CF (good defense, bad bat). Escobar really struggled last year, and it was pretty clear that he was completely over-matched by MLB pitching. Odorizzi is the hardest piece to lose for me, but the guy was only in A. He put up a 2.93 FIP at age 20, but at that age Gallardo split the season between A+ and AA, throwing about 77 innings at each level, posting a combined FIP around 2.30. It does suck to have Yuniesky Betancourt though. I'm hoping they'll sign somebody else for SS...I'd rather see Counsell start at SS than Escobar.
  23. Just woke up to this. Quite frankly, I'm sad to lose Odorizzi. I loved Cain, and I'll miss having him around. Escobar had fallen on my list quite a bit last year, although I still had hopes for him. But ZACK FREAKIN' GREINKE????? I wonder who the PTBNL will be. I'm pretty relieved that Jeffress is staying with Milwaukee, to be honest. Oh, and can we DFA Yuniesky? I'm just going to enjoy this rotation next season. We now have a true ace, a #1, #2, #4, and #5. This is a very good rotation. Edit: Betancourt is owed $4MM this year, and has a $6MM option for next year with a $2MM buyout. I'm guessing that's where the $2M to the Brewers comes in.
  24. I can safely say I'd rather have Hudson at 2/$11.5 than Jeter at 3/$51.
  25. ^Even more entertaining is Campus PD, which airs on G4 every now and then. It's basically a collection of videos of Bros getting arrested outside of house parties. It's absolute genius!
