  1. We wouldn't even know if they would happen because he said he wasn't signing with any team but the Marlins.
  2. He would cost at least a 40 man roster spot and therefore risk losing someone on waivers. I see some junk that could go but you'd just be swapping out junk for more junk.
  3. A couple hundred thousand dollar fine is all that will happen - if that. Now that's nothing to sneeze at but really means nothing and will not affect them in the least.
  4. From reading the comments on MLBTradeRumors (so take that for what it's worth) his stuff is very hittable and the lack of swing-and-miss stuff led to a lot of contact in very hitter friendly places and bad results. I don't know if that's true or not but if a guy has shown he can't really pitch about A ball I don't think that's a guy you really go after.
  5. I just don't see this happening. Susac is not some young kid who can afford to sit another year. Signing Matt for 1 year does absolutely nothing for this organization unless he can be flipped at the deadline and I doubt he would bring back that much compared to the at least $5-8M he'll be paid. Maybe he could platoon with Thames at first but you don't sign those guys to platoon with each other.
  6. Is that Steve Cline the former Cardinals pitcher?
  7. I'm thinking of getting wireless speakers for my office. Typically I listed to Pandora on my phone when I'm in there and that would be a lot easier than now when I have to take my phone somewhere out of the chords reach. I also have a record player I listen to sometimes and would like to play it through my new speakers. The record player has no wireless capabilities so can I make this work somehow?
  8. 'Bout time. SS isn't going to happen, he's at best the fourth best SS on the roster. I'm sure he'll be serviceable defensively in a corner OF spot. Braun's going to need days off plus the inevitable random week he's going to miss because he tweaked something, Santana has plenty of potential but is still really a question mark, same with Broxton. Perez will still get his AB's. I wouldn't be concerned about that.
  9. Myself and others here have been advocating for this or something similar for a couple years. The #1 thing preventing this from happening is fear of trying something new. Which is surprising considering how much the game has changed in even just the last 10 years. When the Rockies tried something similar to this with a 4 man rotation a couple of years ago they were ridiculed. After they gave it up it was deemed an expected failure. Really their pitchers just sucked no matter how they were used. However, and I'd have to look at the numbers to be sure, but I think their "starters" actually put up better numbers under the system. The other thing preventing it from happening is the agents, the union, and the players themselves. How can pitchers get paid what their worth is they can't pitch enough to even qualify for a win or a quality start will be what they will say. Eventually some team will really commit to doing this and whomever makes that call will be deemed a genius even though the stats have been screaming for it to happen for years.
  10. Colorado has Ottavio who looks like he's back to what he was before TJ. Tough to see why Holland would want to go there other than money.
  11. Why? They have plenty of options at 2B and it's not like they're really competing this year or Scooter would help them that much anyway.
  12. Scooter has about an identical amount of PAs the last 3 years as Forsythe, so lack of opportunities is not the issue. Forsythe is a much better player than Scooter both at the plate and in the field besides being far more versatile. Scooter to the Rays makes enough sense, just don't expect anything of value in return. last season scooter hit .263/14/56 Forsythe hit .264/20/52 minus the power numbers, they are very similar. I agree that defensively and versatility are 2 big advantages over scooter. i don't expect a top prospect back for Scooter, but he wouldn't be a bad replacement for Logan for the Rays. I don't know if I could think of a worse way to compare these two guys than batting average, homeruns, and RBI's. Logan and Scooter aren't anywhere near the same player. Logan bested Scooter by 50 points of OPS, 21 points of OPS+, and 2.5 points of WAR last year in pretty much the same amount of playing time.
  13. You have to make an attempt at running the ball. The Packers don't. They say they want to but rarely stick to it. Do they not run because they don't want to or because they can't? Defenses play to stop the passing game, there has to be running room somewhere. Montgomery got a couple good runs in every now and then but that was it. Forte can run it up the gut and catch the ball out of the backfield. He was the perfect back for this team. Personally I think that most of it falls on the O-line which is very overrated because Rodgers is so good and just running around and making something out of nothing.
  14. Forsythe is way underrated. .347 OBP, 119 OPS+, 37 HR, over 8 WAR the last two seasons, defense looks to be above average, and not that they need it but he can play 3B and 1B too. The only downside is he's only controlled for 2 years but LA could easily afford to extend him if they want.
  15. Defense is obvious but Rodgers hasn't had a running game his whole career aside from a half season when Starks was playing out of his mind. Last offseason there were plenty of running backs available but they were expecting a full season out of Lacey which was a huge mistake on their part. Matt Forte would have looked great in the backfield and wouldn't have worn down like he did with the Jets since he would have been splitting time with Lacey/Starks/Montgomery.
  16. Sorry to drudge up this argument again, but I'll respectively disagree when it comes to Wang. People acted like he was the 2nd coming of Stephen Strasburg (and still do) and that there was no way we could afford to let him get away. He had no business tying up a roster spot, and I'll never buy the "every team has mop up guy in their bullpen" argument. Mop up pitchers don't have 10+ ERAs that they are actually used in mop up situations. Teams usually have enough confidence in their "mop up" pitchers to let them pitch more than 14 innings in 3 months. Ok, yes, I'm an old man and I'm still bitter about this! Now you kids get off my lawn! If Ron actually used him more than once every 2 weeks it wouldn't have been so bad. Ya he got hammered but he was pitching ONCE EVERY TWO WEEKS. There was no reason he couldn't have been brought in to face a lefty every now or then.
  17. A casual acquaintance of mine died yesterday. He had been sick for quite a while but was getting better. He went to the hospital for an issue not related to his illness, needed emergency surgery and died on the table. That isn't what's bugging me the most though. He lives by himself and has no family anywhere near here. I'm sure he went to the hospital by himself and probably quite a few hours passed before the hospital had anyone to inform that he died. I was reading through some Facebook posts on his wall and most of his family never even knew he was sick. He's active in the community so he's not a shut in or anything but it just feels wrong to me that his life ended and there was no one there.
  18. I'll weigh in here after echoing one huge caveat - The Packers have to beat Atlanta first. I would rather see the Packers play the Patriots in the Super Bowl for two reasons: 1) The Steelers have a Top 5 QB, a Top 5 RB, and a Top 5 WR ... I don't know how you counter that without an elite defense. 2) I not only want my team to face Tom Brady, I want my team to beat Tom Brady. On NFL Sundays, I probably spend too much time reading online comments during commercials and between games. I find Patriots fans to be insufferable (I acknowledge that Packer fans are not without fault). Any time Rodgers is praised, you can count on a Pats fan mentioning that he's just a "one ring wonder" or a "playoff choker" (because if you don't win a coin toss in OT, you choked). Tom Brady is an elite, HOF QB, but if we're going strictly by championships, isn't Bart Starr the GOAT (sarcasm)? While minuscule next to the prospect of the Packers winning another Super Bowl, I would delight in watching Aaron Rodgers snatching a ring off Tom Brady's finger ... just to keep this GOAT talk interesting. There's your problem. Take out playoffs/championships they're pretty comparable. Neither Rodgers or Brady has ever had great players on their offense. Gronk and Jordy Nelson are close but most great QB's have had Hall of Fame or close to it players on their side of the ball. Neither has ever really even had a running game. Sometimes New England has ran the ball well but like Green Bay the offense is pretty much all on the QB's shoulders. Totally different styles of play but equal value to their teams. Greatest of all time - who cares? They're two of the greatest ever.
  19. Wieters is pretty much done as a catcher and his bat doesn't play that well anywhere else besides behind the plate. No thanks.
  20. That article pretty much outlines all the reasons it made no sense and the Brewers "interest" was a throwaway line in a story. I'm sure the Brewers checked in on a lot of free agents with very little interest in actually signing them.
  21. Food for thought: defense wins championships? Take a look at the 4 remaining teams - Falcons, Packers, Patriots, Steelers. No great defense among them but four darn good offenses. The best playoff defenses (Texans, Chiefs, Seahawks) all got steamrolled on their way out.
  22. I'm indifferent. You are not signing him to turn him into a prospect in July. Therefore he is just taking innings from a younger guy. What young relievers is he blocking? I don't buy into Feliz "blocking" the young guys from "high leverage innings" but I can understand it. But I don't see Chamberlain taking any innings away from anyone. He's probably a 6th innng/we're losing pitcher ala Boyer last year.
