  1. So a guy who killed his father because he was mad at him? That fits in great with all their anti-bullying campaigns.
  2. For his average to fall to .260 he would have to hit very, very poorly. So yes, Weeks' or Morgan's poor averages would be better.
  3. I think you start Green over Ish because Green has a future in the organization at some position while Ish will hopefully never play for the Crew again after this season.
  4. He's a great player but Milwaukee can't afford to pay him what he'll get when he regularly misses months at a time. Also, this might be blue-worthy but probably not, would he play for a team called the Brewers and for a city and state that is so heavily linked to beer and alcohol?
  5. I prefer looking at championships won and how often the player played on a winning team.
  6. I think it has been pretty obvious that the shift works but I would be interested in seeing how often it doesn't. How often was a ball hit where a guy would normally be playing but wasn't because of the shift. That would tell you how effective it is overall.
  7. No, that would only make them think twice about admitting to doing it on purpose.
  8. Disagree. It depends what your goals for the game are. If the #1 goal is to make baseball as fair of a game as humanly possible, then yes. However, some might say that baseball is a form of entertainment, and it certainly makes the game more "entertaining" when the human element is involved. Baseball is an emotional game, and the "human element" makes it moreso. (I wouldn't consider myself as particularly leaning in either direction, just pointing out competing viewpoints) My thoughts exactly. Even if you have the replay option for every call the human element is still involved in instances where you have to choose where to put runners. For example, two outs and a runner on first. Ground ball hit to the second baseman who makes a diving play in shallow right field. The umpire calls the runner at first out but after replay he is safe. Now a fast runner is going to get to third on that play. How are the umpires going to determine if the runner gets third or not? If the call was safe at first they might have thrown to third and got the runner out. There are way to many variables involved and it will all be decided by the human element. I say leave replay the way it is now. Adding it in more circumstances is just going to become a mess.
  9. At this point all you can do as a fan is laugh. That's what I did when I saw the thread title.
  10. I have no problem with pitchers hitting guys because they pimped a homerun, made a stupid comment, or in retaliation for hitting a teammate but what Hamels did was stupid. I know he's shown some cockiness in the past but Bryce hasn't done anything in the majors but be respectful and humble and play HARD. At least Cole had the courtesy to hit him in the back. If I were a veteran on the Nationals I would make sure that Cole doesn't get the same courtesy the next time he steps in the box against Washington.
  11. It will be interesting to see what happens. Last year LaRussa admitted to having his pitcher throw at Braun and nothing happened. Did Harper do anything to deserve it or was this just a veteran trying to put a rookie in his place kind of thing?
  12. The wrong choice was leaving Dillard in after he proved he couldn't throw a strike after the first two batters. Axford should have been warming after the sac bunt and brought in after the walk. I would guess that about 28 of the 30 managers manage that inning the same way Ron did, which is dumb. The stupid save stat prevented Axford from coming in that inning or before it.
  13. Davis actually got the win with two scoreless innings.
  14. Another reason why you can't let Greinke walk just because Peralta, Thornburg, Jungman, etc. are in the system. Pitcher prospects fail more often than they pan out. The Brewers franchise should be well aware of this and proceed accordingly.
  15. That would be my favorite option.
  16. "Due to an unfortunate injury to one of the greatest pitchers of all time, playing for the greatest franchise in the history of sports, Bud Selig announced today that all players are forbidden from attempting to catch or field batted balls during batting practice. Selig is currently investigating whether or not to ban the practice during games as well." MLB Press Release
  17. "We're talking about a guy who made it to the big leagues at 22 and was essentially a starter at 25 on a team that won 89 games." "That was after spending all of 2010 as a bench player for a championship team." Completely irrelevant to a player's ability. Ish is not a player that should be a full time starter for any major league team.
  18. Deep down my thoughts are hoping he's healthy so we don't have to see Ish for an extended time.
  19. It is no longer "early on" for Gomez. He has over 1700 Major league PA and has shown no sustained improvement since he got to the majors. Nothing more than a good week here or there which every player has. People can use the excuse of Gomez being "young" and "inexperienced" all they want but 26 isn't young for a major leaguer anymore and he's spent 5 full seasons on a major league roster. What you see is what you get. He'll play great defense, run fast, hit the ball far sometimes, swing at anything that's within 10 feet of the plate, and occasionally do something stupid on the bases. He's a useful player but will never be an every day player.
  20. Ya, Wednesday is a guaranteed loss for the Crew in an embarrassing fashion.
  21. No. If he hasn't yet, he probably never will. Ryan has such a high slugging percentage that if he were to start taking pitches instead of swinging it would almost certainly have more a negative effect on his slugging than a positive one on his on-base.
  22. I hope he is every bit as good as advertised or better. This kid clearly has more drive and dedication than any of us can ever hope for and so much of the pub he has gotten has been undeservedly negative.
  23. Hall just signed with Baltimore.
  24. Hasn't he been rated as one of the best defensive 3rd baseman the last few years? Obviously Aramis is already there but he can play second, outfield and catch in an emergency. Seems oodles better than Ishikawa to me.
