  1. Or perhaps Anderson and Thames for Starlin Castro?
  2. Plus, all GMs have egos. Even Stearns, even though he's been better than most when it comes to admitting his mistakes. Going out and trading something of value to get Gennett back would be some pretty big egg on the face for a guy who gave him away for nothing 1 1/2 years ago. I understood the move to get rid of Gennett at the time, but it has turned into some pretty crap irony that his bat since then is exactly the type of bat that may have put them over the top. All of this, AND the Reds being in the division makes this a complete non-starter.
  3. No, it wouldn't. Castro is a decent player, and his contract isn't cost prohibitive at all with $11M committed for 2019 and then a club option of $16M or $1M buyout for 2020. Proposed deal isn't nearly enough. With the glut of FA 2nd basemen on the market, Castro probably has slightly negative trade value, but the Brewers are in a much better spot to take him on than most other teams. He is currently deadweight money on their payroll, but he would actually fit in okay on our roster. How about Anderson, Thames, Ray and Nottingham for Chen and Realmuto?
  4. I haven't read through this entire thread, but If we also took Starlin Castro and his contract off their hands would that reduce what we would need to give up for Realmuto? Seems to be a great fit if it means we get to keep Hiura and our young pitchers. Davies+Ray+Nottingham+Dubon for Castro and Realmuto?
  5. So, if these guys are still in the organization they have to be on the 25 man roster on opening day unless they are injured: Kratz, Broxton, Santana, Albers, Houser, Thames along with the obvious guys we'd want to roster anyway: Chacin, Jeffress, Aguilar, Pina, Perez, Braun, Yelich and Cain
  6. Is there a good place to view the entire 40 man roster grid with options and contract status for each player? EDIT: I just found this on Cots Contracts: Which has everything I was looking for except for option status
  7. I like Murphy, but more in Thames' role rather than the 2b/Utility role. If we can jettison Thames and pick up another infielder in addition to Murphy that would be ideal.
  8. 1. Gary Sheffield 2. Nelson Cruz 3. Khris Davis 4. Mitch Haniger 5. Jeremy Jeffress 6. Michael Brantley 7. Lorenzo Cain 8. Dante Bichette 9. Alcides Escobar 10. Jake Odorizzi 1. Matt LaPorta 2. Brett Lawrie 3. Will Inman 4. Lewis Brinson 5. Jeremy Jeffress 6. Luis Ortiz 7. Erik Komatsu 8. Cole Gillespie 9. Dave Krynzyl 10. Valerio de Los Santos?? Kane Davis?? Scott Karl?
  9. He will be a poster boy/case study for all the lawyers in the next CBA.
  10. The proper strategy is HUGELY affected by the situation. In lead off situations or with guys on base and decent hitters coming up, every hitter should be able to bunt for a base hit against the shift.
  11. I think he'd be too expensive, even if we could trade away Thames' contract. The money would be better spent on C/2b/pitching.
  12. There will be moves made by April, which may not be big splash type moves, but after getting Chacin and Miley last year, I'd wait until at least August this year to be too critical of the FO.
  13. The entire roster has been re-hauled in the last 12 months (for the better), jettisoning nearly a dozen prospects we hugged too much?
  14. At least one of Miley, Gio Gonzalez, Derek Holland and/or Drew Pomeranz seems very likely to me.
  15. I would be disappointed if there is a hard budget cap at the current time. I would have been just as disappointed if 2 years ago we had signed Edwin Encarnacion or Dexter Fowler or Brett Cecil just because we had room in the budget to do so. We need to find good values that will improve the ballclub, and now is a good time to do that--particularly after letting Schoop go to Free Agency. There is a hole in the roster there.
  16. Put together an All-Time top ten BF.net prospect list of any kind. Over-rated, under-rated, best high school draft prospects, best college draft prospects, best short left-handers, best "name" list...whatever...Just throw a "themed" top ten out there from the last 25 years or so of Brewers prospects. Label your theme if you like or let the community guess.
  17. 1. Keston Hiura 2. Zack Brown 3. Aa. Ashby 4. Maurice Dubon 5. Brice Turang 6. Payton Henry 7. Adrian Houser 8. T. Lutz 9. Corey Ray 10. Luke Erceg 11. Marc Diplan 12. Jake Notwood 13. Jake Gatingham 14. Stokes 15. Supak 16. Ponce 17. Webb 18. Ernesto 19. Rodriguez 20. Gray 21. Bello 22. Ward 23. Garcia 24. Fernandez 25. Feliciano EDIT: I meant to put my first list in the transactions forum, my second list into the Majors forum and my 3rd list into the Minors forum. This is all quite confusing. (Note: I've always assumed that there are people on this site who actually have valid opinions about this sort of thing, and there are many, many more who are more like myself. I feel like us in the latter category should get more like 3/5ths of a vote or something.)
  18. I think a 5/150M contract for Harper would be a decent use of funds. Too bad that isn't anywhere near acceptable from Boras' end.
  19. I don't know who's who, but Sabathia, Halladay, Felix Hernandez, Kershaw, aaaaaand Verlander?
  20. pffft. Sometimes a BIP out is twice as bad as a K, especially if the bases are loaded with 1 out and Yasmani Grandel is catching a forkballer in the playoffs. Then maybe a K isn't so bad. Timing is everything.
  21. Is there an update to this chart, or perhaps even a reference to a previous time in baseball (that wasn't 1935-1938....really just anytime that isn't those two times).
  22. That's really weird, in that blocking pitches is probably the #1 aspect of being a quality defensive catcher--and that's not even a passed balls thing, it's a prevention of wild pitches thing.
  23. A) Who gets signed first Harper or Machado? When? B) Will anybody sign for more than 50M total before the market gets set by one those 2 guys? C) Who will be the first starting pitcher to sign for more than 10M/yr? How many starting pitchers will sign for more than 10M/yr? D) Will we see a similar depressed market all around like last year? Will it bounce back to normal expected values and pace of signings, or will there still be a lot of FA out there when pitchers and catchers report in February?
  24. We need lefties a lot more than righties. Same as everybody else I suppose, but Gray doesn't seem like an obvious upgrade or diversification of the staff that we have-and he's not particularly cheap.
  25. What is the rule regarding QO's? I know a player has to be on the same team for the entire final year before they declare FA, and a player can only receive the QO once in his career--but does that include players like Moustakas who reject the QO but re-sign with the team that offered him the QO? I.E is it more that a team can only receive compensation once or a team can literally only offer the QO once?
