  1. For anyone that hasn’t seen the interference call for themselves here’s a Twitter link of the Video
  2. Well especially since there was no call to be made. Diaz was running several feet inside the line and still didn’t come close to Godley. It feels like an umpire just trying to justify his own existence.
  3. The Brewers combined team hitting stats are mostly in the bottom third of the league across several important offensive categories. Despite that their cumulative FanGraphs WAR among all position players is the 10th best in MLB (currently at 3.1 fWAR). I assume some of that can be attributed to defensive contributions, but it was a bit surprising (in a positive way). The Brewers don’t need an elite offense to be good, even if they can improve to an “average offense” statistically that will be a big boost.
  4. Marlins placed Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the 10-day IL, and recalled old friend Isan Diaz. The Chisholm IL stint means he’ll miss at least some of the Brewers at Marlins series coming up May 7-9.
  5. I’m fairly certain I’m the only one getting a kick out of this, but Tyrone Taylor gets his 4th start of the season and has now been in the bating order at 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th in those four starts. I’ll be rooting for him to bat cleanup in his next start.
  6. Counsell claimed Godley has been stretched out. While a bullpen day would seemingly increase their chances for success today, I wonder if they are going to ask Godley to stick around for 85+ pitches regardless of the score in order to preserve the bullpen for the upcoming Dodgers series and the fact they still have 12 straight days with games ahead. I hope he pitches great, but I’m not ruling out that they’re using him as a proverbial sacrificial lamb to bridge the pitching gap for a day.
  7. Someone asked the other day if an article had been done on Keston Hiura’s struggle with contact on balls in the zone. Well apparently FanGraphs must’ve been listening because this article came out this morning... The Struggle Is Real for Keston Hiura That Hiura spray chart embedded in the story and note about how he’s flying out to right field so frequently this season when he does make contact makes me further wonder what in the world the Marlins were doing last night with their positioning of Garrett Cooper.
  8. Zack Godley: Batter (Marlins) vs Pitching Stats Sandy Alcantara: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats Statcast Game Preview for Marlins-Brewers Statcast Game Feed for Marlins-Brewers
  9. I knew they’d lost a lot of series openers, but didn’t realize it’s at 5 losses in series openers already. It’s sort of the new version of that stretch when they could seemingly never win on Sundays.
  10. I absolutely hate the “he came off contact with the base for a millisecond” replay reversals. There is no way that was ever the intent of replay, and it certainly isn’t helping make the game any more watchable.
  11. JP is becoming a weapon for the bullpen. Glad to see the leap forward for him, I’m sure he’ll get touched up at some point but he looks pretty remarkable so far this season.
  12. What if I told you there is a player that would be the perfect fit for the Brewers offense? This player is going to be a free agent after the season. This player plays for a team almost assured to be out of the playoff race by June. This player primarily plays 3B and 2B, but can play a capable SS in a pinch. This player is a switch hitter with solid splits against both LHP and RHP. This player had a 3.1 WAR in 2018 and 3.3 WAR in 2019 (3.5 fWAR & 3.6 fWAR respectively according to FanGraphs). This player currently has a 130 DRC+ which is tied for the 11th best DRC+ mark among all hitters in baseball. This player strikes out just 18.3% of the time which is in the 75th percentile among all hitters. This player has 7 home runs and a .301 ISO. This player has fallen victim to some terrible batted ball luck (just a .217 BABIP), but is still having a valuable season. This player has a .854 OPS (despite the previously mentioned BABIP) and 0.9 WAR. I am sure some of you will be underwhelmed when you click on this spoiler, but realize this player could be a legitimate addition to this current lineup...
  13. His BABIP is now at .229. He just missed a double earlier that I’m still not convinced didn’t get over part of the bag. I believe he’ll find his way into proving a perfectly fine, slightly better than league average hitter by the end of the season.
  14. I think the scouting report is that he does not have much opposite field power. And right on cue! But yeah, I think you’re right in terms of what they were thinking.
  15. Castano faced 18 Brewers batters and struck out 3 of them for a 16.6% strikeout rate. Sort of right in the middle in the matchup of a team that’s 3rd in the league in strikeouts versus a guy that entered with the worst strikeout rate in the league among starters.
  16. Brewers are apparently now 4th in baseball in number of current IL stints.
  17. September 12, 2019. The series Yelich fractured his knee. And obviously the teams didn’t face off in 2020. There was a series in Milwaukee earlier in 2019 where the Brewers got blown out very badly in one of the games. Edit: Brewers got beat 16-0 at home against the Marlins on June 4, 2019.
  18. Urias with a big opportunity to make up for the mistake in the top half of this inning.
