  1. Prince is going to hit a lot of HR's in Texas
  2. 1) That's a pretty major "just" . It sure is! Agreed. I think the possibilities of Peralta, Thornburg, Nelson, Hand showing a little improvement that comes with experience is fairly likely, just (again) I don't know if that'll be enough to help us contend. I'd like to believe Gallardo is capable of doing better that the 94 ERA+ he put up last season! He is only going to be 28 years old, I doubt he is past his prime at this point. Gallardo's 2nd Half ERA was 3.09, his 1st half ERA was 4.83 ... I'd like to believe he figured something out along the way there
  3. I'm always optimistic in the winter, often overly so A platoon of Weeks/Gennett at 2B is an upgrade No Yuni B is an upgrade It is reasonable to believe Maldanado will hit better than in 2013 = upgrade Improvng the offensive stats at 1B won't be too difficult Braun for a full season is an upgrade Segura a year older is likely an upgrade We just need to improve our pitching. It is reasonable to believe that our younger pitchers will be improved Is all of that enough to win the division? I don't know Can Aramis Ramirez stay healthy? I don't know that either
  4. I like the idea of Braun at 1B I still think Hunter Morris has potential.....
  5. Given Doug Melvin's past history of over-paying for older starting pitchers past their prime, I could see him offering a 2-3 year contract to Bronson Arroyo or A.J. Burnett. 3 years $55 million dollars to a 37 year old pitcher.....yep that is my prediction
  6. Bill Hall Or, Doug Melvin not learning the lesson of Bill Hall And Doug Melvin's inability to hire a great manager Ultimately the biggest blame is probably on Mark A, and he cannot fire himself. Mark A would rather stick pins in his eyes than rebuild
  7. MLB is trying to claim that "lying" is an offense, thus it would be 100 games for 2 offenses. What a joke.
  8. According to T.J. Quinn at ESPN, who seems to know what he is talking about in regards to MLB rules regarding the arbitration process, once a case because public, as this one has, they can announce suspensions publicly without having to wait until the appeal process has taken place (this does not mean that players are not allowed to appeal). Play video: http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/9464246/ryan-braun-refused-answer-mlb-questions-biogenesis-clinic-sources-say Which essentially makes ESPN one step away from the National Enquirer. If Braun once again gets suspended and once again wins the appeal process, he and his lawyers should sue ESPN for $50 million for defamation of character and lost wages from endorsement deals. This whole fiasco could cost Braun a chance at the Hall of Fame due to irresponsible tabloid style "reporting" and an overzealous commissioner who is trying to make up for his own horribly tarnished legacy.
  9. I am completely serious when I say/type this: If MLB tries to suspend the Brewers' franchise player based on a drug dealer having his name written on a piece of paper, with no evidence other than the testimony of said scumbag drug dealer, then the Brewers should take down that statue of Bud Selig outside of Miller Park.
  10. What a fiasco and disgrace! If all MLB has is the testimony of a drug dealer, suspending Braun would be a horrible thing to do. I already am embarrassed by the Selig statue at Miller Park. Yeah, he brought baseball back to Milwaukee, I get it, but wow what an abysmal commissioner he is!!!!
  11. Doug Melvin scares me when he says "we feel like this could be a great team if we can have everyone healthy" Hopefully that is just posturing for trade talks. Pitching, Doug, Pitching!
  12. Go Brewers! At the beginning of the season I was looking at this series as a key battle of divisional contenders. D'oh!!!! (Glad I don't bet on baseball, I'd be broke)
  13. I think there is a slight chance that Juan Francisco could turn around his game similar to the way Carlos Gomez did, but unfortunately it isn't likely. Lack of effort was never one of the problems in Gomez' game
  14. This could also drive the price up for Gallardo, not down, because the supply of available pitchers has been reduced by one. It is all about supply and demand. There is great deman for starting pitching and not a ton of them available. All it takes is one team to overpay.
  15. Anyone that would be surprised that Clay Matthews is on steroids is really (in my opinion) naive. Wouldn't shock me if 1/2 of the NFL is juiced up
  16. If Segura had an approach more similar to Rickey Henderson's where he drew tons of walks and got on base at a .400+ clip it'd be an easier decision. As it is, I'm still thinking about it. Trout is a special talent and is hitting .363 in June and has his season average up to .316 with a .389 OBP ..... that said it is extremely difficult to find top flight SS talent I wouldn't look at the "for the Milwaukee Brewers" portion of the hypothetical question as a deterrent to choosing Trout or Harper. The reason I say that is because both Gomez & Braun would have great trade value....
  17. Great to see Halton get his first hit today. He's gotta be better than Yuni B....
  18. Braun, Segura, and hopefully whoever we grab with the #5 overall pick next June! (and maybe/hopefully Tyrone Taylor)
  19. Hellweg is on his way to Milwaukee as per FSN-Wisconsin will make a start soon
  20. My wife snagged the foul ball hit by Francisco right before his HR at Miller Park tonight! I think I'm gonna have her pick out Lottery numbers when she gets home....
  21. I think you need to look at Miguel Cabrera's age and contract before saying this. I did. And went back and looked again. 30 years old. $21 million a year. Age 31 season in 2014, age 32 season in 2015. Free agent in 2016. He's one of the all-time greatest hitters. A twice in a generation hitter (Pujols). A 8-10 WAR guy. Absolutely I'd take on that contract for 2 full seasons and do everything I could to build a World Series contender around Braun & Cabrera
  22. I think some of the people here need to readjust their concept of "trade value" now that there are 2 Wild-Card teams. That means less teams are sellers and more teams are buyers. Simple supply & demand Add in the fact that many of the Brewers' best trade pieces (Gallardo, Lohse, Ramirez) are not simply 2 month rentals but instead are players a team can control for a year or 2. That ups their value also
  23. K-Rod to Detroit makes a lot of sense right about now
  24. As great as Segura has been, it has just been 70 games. Can he keep up this pace? Probably not likely. How far off this pace will he fall? Probably not too far. But his OBP is only 36 points above his BA. If he was hitting .274 a .310 OBP would be a little ugly Don't get me wrong, Segura is an extremely fun player to watch and quickly becoming one of my favorites too, but I would take Miguel Cabrera for him in a heartbeat
