  1. [sarcasm]I didn't know Derek Fisher was a two sport athlete.[/sarcasm]
  2. I remember when we had to try to find a way to get Brad Nelson up, even though he was blocked by Fielder and not an ideal fourth outfielder. He finally made the team, then went completely hitless until they just had to DFA him.
  3. Always thought he was a decent player. Gets on base and doesn't strikeout a ton. Looks like 16 games in the outfield in 2016, otherwise every inning at 2B. Curious to figure out how that will work.
  4. Didn't see it logged here - Eric Thames going to Japan. Weird that Smoak is worth $6M and Thames only $1.2M. Also surprised he wouldn't go back to the KBO where it seems he'd have a similar salary, other than wanting better competition in Japan. https://www.gwinnettprepsports.com/sportsxchange/report-ex-brewers-slugger-thames-joins-smoak-in-japan/article_82924d04-b75e-59ac-ade2-c46b947064f2.html
  5. It is strange seeing great, even some legendary players not make it in. But I'll always like that the MLB HOF is truly elite. Contrast with like the NFL Hall of Fame that puts a half dozen in every year, plus a couple of the old timer nominees who were merely above average players.
  6. One of the larger than life figures for Milwaukee fans (and Atlanta fans, and baseball fans). I was far too young to see him play. My first experience was in the mid-90's. I went to a baseball card show, and my dad saw an old Hank Aaron card. He decided to buy it for me, while telling me all about why Aaron was important so I would value that card. A short time later, I found an address with TBS online where you could supposedly send fan mail. I decided to write him a letter, and printed his photo off of the Encarta encyclopedia article and ask if he would sign it. Both items sitting in my office today. Literally the only baseball card I still own:
  7. Brewers Boulevard wouldn't be bad. Just glad there was no consideration to go with more insurance company signage.
  8. That's one giant lump of coal. But Melvin should have shopped around. You could get four million bags of charcoal for that price at Home Depot.
  9. Another Perdomo who isn't very good. This is getting out of hand, now there are two of them!
  10. Really great win over Creighton in Omaha. This team is the most fun to watch in years, very balanced and good chemistry.
  11. Last I heard, DSL still a go & players there would not be counted toward the new stateside player limit. My guess is more MLB teams will be looking to field multiple DSL & other foreign league teams (there used to be a league in Venezuela years ago until that place went into the crapper) to try to get a competitive advantage.. On that note, this cool tidbit came through a few weeks ago. Brewers will be sending some farmhands down under next year to play for the team Dave Nilsson runs. Technically not a Brewers team/affiliate, but a foreign "partnership". https://brisbanebandits.com.au/news/something-is-brewing-in-brisbane/
  12. Couple of profiles: https://www.si.com/mlb/dodgers/news/dodgers-prospect-watch-leo-crawford https://www.dodgersnation.com/dodgers-unheralded-prospect-series-leo-crawford/2020/04/22/ Primarily a starter in the minors, tops out around 92 with a changeup. Unless I'm missing some red flags this is a very nice pickup for Knebel, who was about to be non-tendered.
  13. Yeah, Beloit was going to have to be high-A. The other Midwest League teams moved up or are now unaffiliated. Carolina wasn't prohibitive to assignments, though I'm not sure they would have purchased the team knowing they'd no longer have to worry about getting screwed into having an A+ affiliate in California now that they get Appleton as A+ and MLB is guaranteeing long-term A- affiliates in the mid-Atlantic or Florida. Statement from Nashville:
  14. Yep, player or cash. In lieu of nothing, we can thanks the Dodgers for looking out for the little guy and covering American Miller Insurance Fieldpark's replacement lightbulbs for all of next year!
  15. He always does the absolute minimum to make you not want to give up on him. Just contiuing the theme for a little while longer.
  16. These were the three I thought were best in the MiLB thread. Feliciano and File would get picked, Bettinger was possible. None of the others are getting picked, other than an outside shot someone takes a chance on QTC. File also breezed through AA, making a couple of strong starts in the playoffs the last we saw of him. He was probably penciled in to start in AAA for 2020. A good chance we see him up at some point next season.
  17. Feliciano and File are musts. Bettinger would be preferred. Other than perhaps QTC, the rest just aren't going to get claimed onto an MLB roster.
  18. Not that I can be impartial, but I think they got it right. And glad they did - it's so hard for a reliever to win the ROY. And a non-closer had never won the NL ROY. He had to be that good.
  19. They really are the AL's Padres in terms of a young, flashy roster. Looking at how San Diego's hire of Tingler finally churned out a good team after all their rebuilds and spending kept amounting to nothing and it's weird that the White Sox choose to take the opposite approach.
  20. #FreeNateOrf is on the A's ALDS roster?!
  21. Sometimes the greatest players make the absolute worst coaches. Take Ted Williams for example one of the best hitters ever and by all accounts one of the worst hitting coaches ever. It is far easier to teach what not to do than it is to teach what to do correctly. Though whether a good player or not, I think I'd rather be with the 27/29 other teams whose hitting coach actually was a professional player. For what Cirillo is doing, the answer is some scouting for LAA and managing a collegiate team in Washington that he has an ownership stake in. Doesn't sound like he would be eager to join an MLB staff, but you never know. https://westcoastleague.com/former-mlb-all-star-jeff-cirillo-to-manage-the-sweets/
  22. Can't see a tandem of Narvaez / Nottingham with the output we got from that position. They either take the flyer on Narvaez returning to form and need a backup who can hit reasonably well or take the lower cost, good defense backup in Notthingham and need a primary catcher with a trustworthy bat. Pina fits in the former, and not quite as well in the latter. I suppose it'll be all about the "fit". Schoop had even fewer games and opportunities being on a team with reasonable depth and legitimate pennant aspirations.
  23. If they find a trade partner for Garcia willing to take on some of his salary, I could see a Gamel/Taylor platoon with McKinney floating between outfield/first base and possibly room to bring back Braun. I don't think that happens though. It feels like that scenario takes a trade-off that de-emphasizes outfield production. By bringing in Cain, Yelich, and spending on Garcia in the offseason they didn't spent on anyone I'd think Stearns more likely to pay again than de-emphasize.
