  1. I'm not a huge fan of this but I guess that money wasn't headed anywhere else.
  2. It would make a lot of sense to have a 2B/3B who favors LHP on the roster along with Perez to cover Spangenberg/Shaw.
  3. Why did Lawrie stop playing after 2016? He was injury-prone but never bad. Interesting reclamation project, possibly.
  4. The curse of Wade Miley is that he can now be used to justify signing every horrible pitcher in the league
  5. Regarding #1, wouldn't that destroy competitive parity in MLB and create a handful of super teams in cities where players want to go like LA and New York? I think your proposal is interesting, but would probably have to be accompanied by a structured salary system like in other sports so any one team could only afford to keep so many max value players.
  6. I'd rather have Gio back on that deal. Wonder if he would settle for that.
  7. If you get both, then two have to go currently on the 40 man roster...who are the two we essentially trade for less than top value or outright release for nothing? Kratz, Petricka, Houser, there are a few that are expendable Houser is out of options and if he doesn't make a crowded bullpen out of ST then he might be in that situation anyway
  8. Theoretically, if you're planning on using your bullpen a lot with most of your rotation, a horse that can give the bullpen rest by getting deep into games the other days becomes very important. If a guy has proven he can successfully go through an order 3+ times, they might be able to actually leverage their rotation usage to 'guarantee' they plan on using him in a different role than their normal 'two times through and you're out' pitchers. Might be a stretch, but might make a lot of sense too. This is also a very good point. I think we would have been in the World Series last year if Jeffress wasn't so gassed from the bullpen pitching high leverage situations practically every game all season.
  9. I think any starter would love to have one of the best bullpens in the game. They care way more about Wins (don't ask me why) than innings pitched. It's not like we have a six-man rotation and he's missing starts.
  10. I'm predicting another Game 163! Brewers 96 (+1) Cardinals 96 (-1) Reds 85 Cubs 82 Pirates 75
  11. Interesting to consider the choice from Keuchel's perspective assuming money is more or less equal. Stay in Houston (likely WS favorites again) for two guaranteed years but in a crowded rotation, or come to Milwaukee for three guaranteed years and immediately become the staff ace.
  12. Pete Rose had 15 seasons with 700+ PAs. I don't know if that's a record, but that would be my guess. I don't have $ Baseball Reference access, but Markakis is at least in the top 10 all time for 680+ PA seasons, as #10 on the list is only nine. I'm guessing you're right that Pete Rose is #1.
  13. He's a pretty solid player. I do want to see if he can get to 3,000 hits. He probably won't, but he's still young enough and close enough that it's a real possibility and something I'm really rooting for. I went to Baseball Reference because I was confused and thought you had your info wrong. However, TIL that Nick Freaking Markakis has 2237 hits and has averaged 181 a year for 13 years. Has averaged 153 games a year in those 13 seasons. Stunned. Amazing how many 700+ PA seasons he has at 35. I actually wonder what the record for that is? *Edit* He has 11 seasons with 680+ PA
  14. Brewers sign Mariano Rivera to a 1-year, $20 million deal.
  15. Has BA published the top 100 list yet? Curious who the second Brewers prospect is.
  16. I'm starting to doubt the credibility of the obnoxious Twitter troll who "broke" this rumor
  17. It's not that I have any particular allegiance to Miller Brewing Co., it's just that Miller Park is a good name that sounds like a real stadium rather than one of these pathetic corporate-named abominations that confirms us as a lower-tier team. Sort of the equivalent of having atrocious uniforms or an atrocious logo. A team like the Cubs would never have to do this. (Yes, Wrigley Field is sort of a corporate tie-in, but it's really called that because William Wrigley Jr. personally owned the team 100 years ago. The equivalent to this is if they renamed it to Hubba Bubba Strawberry Flavor Field in 2021.)
  18. I won't believe it until I heard it from @BrewerWorld
  19. Incredibly gross. And an insurance company no less???
  20. If Nelson is ready to go on Opening Day, then how are Burnes and Peralta not at AAA to start the season? Chacin, Anderson, Davies, Woodruff and Nelson are the favorites for the rotation, and it makes no sense to relegate Burnes or Peralta to the bullpen rather than let him develop more as starters. Unless they go with a six-man rotation to start the season, which is very possible.
  21. Very good deal for them, but I still don't see the Reds being contenders on paper. No idea why Gray accepted that extension. I guess he wants to get out of New York badly.
  22. Total fool trying to get more followers with a fake tweet he will probably delete.
  23. We already have Thames on the bench, so I don't think we need another OF who is stronger vs RHP. Gamel has even platoon splits so he is probably our coverage in the event of an injury, but if we were going to sign somebody I would look at Brandon Guyer. 2016-2018 splits Eric Thames vs. RHP - 128 wRC+ Brandon Guyer vs. RHP - 62 wRC+ Eric Thames vs. LHP - 69 wRC+ Brandon Guyer vs. LHP - 131 wRC+
  24. Even if it wasn't questionable hearsay reporting/sensationalism from an anti-PED Purity Squad Protectors of Baseball Journalist, who really cares what Braun said in private to Matt Kemp? [sarcasm]Anyways, to get his thread back on topic this is all a long way of saying that I think we should move Braun back to 3B.[/sarcasm]
