Huey Lewis and the News at Alpine Valley. Mid-to-late 80s. My sister was a Huey maniac (still is) and she got tickets (her 4th Huey concert or so.) My mom made me go with them. It wasn't bad but I wasn't really into them at that time. Now I kind of have to like them by default or my sister might shoot me.

My thought on trading ARam would be . . . if the Dodgers want him, let's see what we can get from them. Perhaps they will overpay? It doesn't hurt to talk. I think the signing hasn't worked out for the Brewers because the rest of the team hasn't worked out and that's why they might be shopping him. They may want to play a different angle in 2013 if they can trade him and get some good quality players/prospects in return. Personally, I can't stand the guy. He stinks in the field and even though he's hit a lot of doubles for us, the power numbers are way down. I thought for sure he'd be good for 25-30 HRs playing half his games in Miller Park. When I watch him play, I don't expect good things from him. I expect a weak ground ball out or a pop out (or a double play ball) and can be mildly surprised when he reaches base. Oh, and he's slower than Eddie Perez, I think. Heck, he's still a Cub to me. Not to mention, I thought that the contract he signed was just a reactionary move from Melvin for losing Prince and we overpaid. The last two years of that contract will not be worth it to the Brewers. The Dodgers, though, can afford to pay him that much money for that kind of production. (Of course, he could go off and play out of his gourd once we dealt him and then love it so much in SoCal that he totally earns his money.) -

Firstly . . . print World Series tickets?!?! I would never put the horse before the cart. Look at the Phillies this year. And the Tigers (although they're coming around a tiny bit). Secondly, without looking it up (don't lie, either) who was the GM for the '57 Braves. I have no idea and I DID have to look it up afterward. People will NOT love you for generations. A few years? Sure. -
The problem that I see with this is that we haven't had many mop-up type of games this year. Axford would hardly ever be used. Our games, for some reason, have seemed (off the top of my head) to be fairly close most of the time. Tim Dillard was "used" in the mop-up role at times and was hardly used. Livan Hernandez hardly seems like he's on the team. I'm pretty sure that Axford will get some work. I hope it's not too long before he gets himself right. It's not easy being a fan of a 2nd place team with a last place bullpen. (Notice the lack of homerism. I could have went with 1st place team but I'm a realist and know they really can't get all the way this year.)

I gave him 6:1 odds this morning that he'd make it through the start unscathed. But I gave him 2:5 odds that he'd be hurt again before the season is over. Congrats on him getting through today. He looked good in the limited looks I was given by MLB Network. -
well, I went on the website and saw that the deal is indeed real. With a catch. It's $199.99 for the basic NFL Sunday Ticket package, which includes all games in HD. And then there are some meaningless trinkets (fantasy tracker, 8 games-on-1-channel, etc.) For an extra $100, though, you get ability to watch on your phone/computer/etc. AND Red Zone channel. Yep, that's right, folks. The Red Zone Channel, which is AWESOME to watch when not watching a Packer game, is now a $100 option--it's NOT included in the basic plan. That kind of blows. So for the next month and a half, I'm going to be flipping back and forth of whether Red Zone Channel is worth $100 or not. I'm heavily leaning toward not.

just saw a commercial that said Directv NFL Sunday Ticket is only $199.99 this season. Now that might seem excessive to some, but compared to the $349.99 price last year, this definitely does NOT bug me. Of course, knowing my luck, it's only for new subscribers, in which this post should be transferred to the "What's Bugging You?" thread.

three random thoughts that came to me, all in the 9th inning of tonight's game: 1) If you join Twitter but just lurk, does that mean instead of "Tweeting" that you are "Sylvestering"? 2) If you can taxidermy animals, how come you can't do it to humans? 3) Why does Axford have to emulate Hoffman so much? First, he listens to the Hall-of-Fame closer to learn tips, watching Hoffman put up an all-star season as closer. Then, Hoffman sucks up the joint and Axford is given his chance and does pretty good. Then Axford leaves the team and Axford puts up an all-star (type of) season as closer. And now, Axford emulates his mentor again by sucking up the joint. The Ax Man is really doing a hatchet job of pitching this season.

what would the shipping cost be to AZ? I would assume cheaper but not by much? I might be in for one. Don't put me down yet, though.

there's an old video of Frank Thomas' MLB debut floating around out there that clearly has Betts' voice on it a couple of times. Other than that, I don't know of any.

is anybody really surprised about this? The nation, overall, was coming off of a very mild winter so you were bound to not be able to enjoy this summer as well. Our monsoon is finally starting up here so clouds (haven't really had a cloudy day since April) and daily rain are finally on the way.

I think we're starting to look for anything to complain about. This is a non-issue. Who are we to say that Kemp didn't ask Braun personally and Braun turned him down? We don't know. I'd rather Braun rest as much as he can over the break, give his achilles a rest for a few days. Yeah, he's looked pretty good again the last couple of weeks but a short little break could move him from the 90-95% that he is now back to full power.

this just gives Jim Caple more ammo to prove that Giants fans really ARE better than Brewers fans, because they voted for their players in a vote that actually means something, rather than a "meaningless" best-stadium vote.

There's only been 1 time that I have been to Miller Park and been truly uncomfortable--almost couldn't breath uncomfortable--and that was an evening game with high humidity and temps in the high 80s. It was a night game against Houston, Johnny Estrada hit a grand slam, and the Crew won. But I just about passed out once they closed the roof and the air in the terrace boxes (and the rest of the upper tank, I imagine) just got heavy and still. When the roof was open, the air moved around and it wasn't bad. But with it closed, it became stagnant and those people, like me, with breathing problems already were not comfortable. I know I began to hyperventilate, just trying to get enough oxygen in my system. At that time, 10 plus years of living in the dry desert was what did it to me. My lungs just weren't used to that high level of humidity without any air movement. I guess, if A/C was not an option (I like the idea of putting it in the terrace concourse, at least), they really need to get some fans installed or something, just to get the air movement. I'm probably in the major minority on this one, though. I don't get to many games in Milwaukee anymore (< 1 game per year) so I guess whatever they decide is the best.

well, that's the thing with "professional" movie reviews. Sooooooooooo many times that a movie was drubbed as awful, etc. that I finally saw it when it was on HBO or something (free preview only, of course) and I thought it was really good. Or vice versa. "This movie is a definite Oscar contender" blah, blah, blah and then I saw it and thought it was terrible. Everybody is different and thus I don't pay attention to the reviews. If I think it'll be something that I'd like, it probably will be good enough for me. I don't need some know-it-all on the news/internet or in a magazine to tell me that I won't like it. Reviews I understand are meant as a guideline, but so many times the reviewer seems like Jim Caple trying to tell me what I should be thinking. As for Rock of Ages, I haven't seen it yet. Next year, when it's on a freeview event, I'll record it and watch it at a later date, I'm sure. It seems like my kind of film. I mean, c'mon, I liked "Airheads" and that movie was a stinky bomb according to the experts.

not a bad concept in theory. It would need some tweaking. Slightly off topic, I thought about this idea after Kottaras entered the game defensively, since we didn't have another catcher: what if MLB allowed each roster to be 26 guys--25 players and then the bullpen catcher can be the 26th guy. The rule would establish that the bullpen catcher could only enter the game from, for example, the 14th inning on. Yeah, he would be terrible (likely) as a hitter if he had to bat in the 16th inning or something, but at least you could put a guy behind the plate in the extreme extra innings that won't be a complete sieve.

I am in Plover, WI so this would make a difference for me. I'm thinking that my dish may need to be installed on the roof (due to my lot and the visibility of the sky) and clearing off the snow would be very difficult and dangerous during the winter. Does this happen pretty much every snowfall? I can't speak for all types of snowfall, but the wet sticky snow (the only kind we get here in AZ) is the only snow that I have experience with sticking to the dish. I would guess that the light, fluffy snow wouldn't be an issue.

paul253, I would venture a guess (not saying that I am right, of course) that your signal/dish needs a slight adjustment and the problem will be gone for the most part. It IS possible to get a 90+% signal strength on your dish (I have 97% due to my own adjustments.) I would check your signal strength and if it is less than 90%, give them a call and have them send a technician out, saying you are unsatisfied with your reception/signal. They should be able to adjust it for you. To the original poster, I would also mention that snow accumulation on the dish will also disrupt the signal so be aware of that in Wisconsin. It happened to me (yes, in Arizona) during the Regional Finals games of the NCAA tourney in March but it was just a minor perturbance, having to go out and brush off the dish every half hour or so while it was snowing.
