  1. it certainly was a powerful interview with Costas, but he sorta avoided some blame while accepting some. He admitted that he took the roids (and HGH "once or twice") but he did it to recover from the injuries, not to bulk up. Now, if that's true, if that's the only reason you used the roids wouldn't you then get off the juice when you're healthy again? I thought Costas did a fantastic job. And the post-interview stuff with the MLB network analysts is gold. In the court of public opinion, I really don't know where Mark McGwire will be sitting after this.
  2. maybe we'll "Tom Glavine" him and pull his chain until June or so before releasing him. Sorry, that was probably pent up Packer emotion speaking there.
  3. I sure ran the gauntlet of emotions last night during the final 15 minutes of the BCS game. I went from, "YES!" to "NO!" to "crud" to "this blows" to "YES" to "WHY THE HECK ARE YOU FALLING DOWN? GO FOR A SCORE YOU NINCOMPOOP!" to "there's no way this wins because they're just going to do kneeldowns" to "OMG, they're actually running plays. Maybe I have a chance" to "Holy Mother of Fruitcakes, they're at the 2 yard line!" to "YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!" If you watched the game, you can probably follow along with this and know exactly what moments of the game I'm referring to. Long story short: Alabama covered my 15 1/2 points on my reverse teaser card (along with Boise State and Florida) and I'm sitting on a cool $87.50 (from a $5.00 bet.) Yeah, it's not a lot of green, but I'll take what I can get.
  4. I don't have a problem with Dawson in the Hall of Fame. I'm not happy that Bert missed--he belonged in there at least 5 years ago. Alomar probably belongs but he should make it next season. As for those that were questioning the vote for Eric Karros and other guys, I will re-post what I've now posted the last 3 or 4 years. It's a good story about why these guys get votes and how it backfired on the writers one year. If you've read it before, skip it. If you haven't, enjoy!
  5. I will add that, while visiting Wisconsin for the holidays, I purchased one 16-oz. bottle of the Pepsi and Dew throwbacks to try out. I also bought one 16-oz. bottle of the regular production model of each to compare to. I had forgotten the sugar flavor of both drinks from my youth. It was very good, probably better than what they produce now. Still, I don't drink soda very much at all anymore so I'm glad that it's not available here in Arizona (well, at least where I live.)
  6. Happy Birthday from Me! Hope it all goes well. Drinking is fun when you're young but in another 10 years it'll be highly overrated. So enjoy it while you can!
  7. we fly from Vegas to Detroit to Appleton on 12/23 so hope all will be okay for that. We have plans on 12/24-26, too, but not as worried about that as I am with safe flights (and landings.)
  8. Zing! Nice one! My slingbox is bugging me right now. I upgraded it last night and was setting it up for remote viewing. After fidgeting with the router for an hour to get the settings right, it finally stated that it was set up correctly for remote viewing. So I try it at work and it says that it's not set up for remote viewing. I'm hoping it's only because of some block on the work network, but I only wanted to test it out (no speakers at work so it's rather pointless for work). This bugs me.
  9. I know what you're saying ($50,000 gamble doesn't hurt the team's bottom line at all), but if he isn't working out, that likely means he is getting lit up on the mound, which correlates to the Brewers potentially losing some ballgames, and that DOES hurt. I don't like that part of the gamble. Still, 99 out of 100 times I would probably take that chance. Now, if you had 3 Rule V players on your roster, I don't think I could handle that. It'd be like trying to copy the Pirates or something.
  10. I wonder if it's health reasons or family reasons or something along that nature. He's a good analyst; I'd miss him.
  11. was this rule V? I thought they do that on the final day of the meetings . . . If not, then I suppose he will work out fine to fill a roster spot on a minor league squad.
  12. My part of Arizona is under a Winter Storm Warning until Tuesday 5 AM! (yeah, over 4000 ft. but still) Maybe we'll luck out and some it will get down to our elevation of 3500 ft.
  13. I guess I have never heard of such practices like that. Thank you for explaining.
  14. Good for Jack Z and the M's but is it "good?" I guess time will tell. Beltre did and didn't work out for them in the long run. Offensively, he was far from what Seattle expected but defensively, he was probably above and beyond what they thought they'd get out of him.
  15. huh? Menard's does recon against itself? They steal from other "branches" to see if they can get away with it? Is Michael Scott running this company? Please explain this. I don't understand the logic behind it. Seriously.
  16. I'm actually pretty surprised that a search didn't turn up a thread about this (or am I surprised that Yuku didn't return a search list for me?). Does anybody else watch this show on ABC? I have been enjoying it wholeheartedly. I just watched the 1/2 season finale and it answers questions but makes me wonder what the heck is going to happen next. Just a great hour of television. Of course, with my track record, it'll get cancelled. Yeah, yeah, I know that it got picked up for the whole year, but this is the way it works in pitchleague's world of television. I watch a show. I think it's great. Many others think it's great, too. And it gets the axe.
  17. the wife and I are heading to Vegas for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert. Pretty dang excited and expected to be awe-struck about this time tomorrow night. However, it appears that it could be just their new rock opera "Night Castle" and not their Christmas material. We'll be bummed if it's not Christmas but still, it's TSO so it'll be good.
  18. at the Glitter Palace, a strip club: "Come here, beautiful!" --Ron Swanson, said not to a stripper, but the breakfast buffet. AWESOME! I must have busted my gut with that scene. And then when he's protecting his food from the glitter bomb. This show keeps getting better and better. I'm glad that I stayed on past the dull first season.
  19. If college hoop rankings were like boxing and we took over the #5 rank by defeating Duke, storming the court would be well warranted. That'd be cool if football and basketball did it that way. Beat somebody--get their rank. Like a title belt.
  20. I was squirming along with Michael the whole way. That would have to have been so painful to sit through a "pep rally" in your honor, knowing what you have to tell those kids. I liked how quickly the "tots" went from smiling, proper young men & women to the opposite in a matter of seconds. Dwight's impersonations were pretty funny, indeed. Especially Kevin.
  21. I may have been in my Laz-ee-boy chair, but I was FAR from just sitting on my butt watching the game. I was yelling. I was jumping out of my seat. I was doing the traveling motions with my arms that would drive hawing nuts (sorry, hawing, I get into it.) Hell, I'm 37 year old and I stormed my living room with my 5' tall inflatable Bucky Badger and we jumped up and down and yelled while my wife looked at me strangely (and secretly wanting to join me, I'm sure!) Just because we're at home don't assume that we're all ho-humming our way through a basketball game. /soap box rant.
  22. I know exactly what you're saying, sheethead, and I agree that he talks to much. To play devil's advocate, however, maybe he does it for all those people who are "just walking into the room" and don't know what's going on. Just a hypothesis. I have heard, on a few rare occasions, both Bill and Brian stop talking and let the crowd do the talking for them. It's usually a top of the 8th/9th kind of thing, though and that's about it.
  23. Yep, I thoroughly enjoyed this one watching on TV. Bob Knight was money. Duke never had a lead. Perfection. I'll sleep well tonight.
  24. That's always been my interpretation, too, Russ. It's like he's begging the ball get going over that fence. Even on those calls when he does the ol' "Get up, Get up, Get outta here, CAUGHT!" I don't mind. The guy is an entertainer. He knows how to get an audience's attention. I can pretty much guarantee that just about every time that he does the phrase (whether a dinger or caught) you are on the edge of your seat/hanging on every syllable of his just about EVERY time. The man does his job and does it well, just like an entertainer should.
  25. Am I missing something here? TBS just does the Sunday day game, right? (well, and playoffs, of course.) If so, could Brian Anderson do the same thing that many clubs do with their announcers that have regular gigs on FOX Saturday baseball? He would be gone for (most) Saturday Brewer broadcasts and, of course, the Sunday broadcasts but still be available for Monday-Friday. That's what many teams do (Thom Brenemann did that all the time when he was the D-Back's PBP guy. I know Josh Lewin (sp?) of the Rangers did it, too (still does?)) Yeah, that would mean more Craig Coshon in the booth on weekends but that's not so bad, is it? I don't understand how the main TBS guy will suddenly jump ship on his team and not broadcast for them anymore so he can fulfill his 1 game per week schedule with TBS. I'm all for BA getting the job and moving up the ladder, but I don't see him leaving the Brewers either.
