  1. It is possible that the interest arose after MLB made the proposal to add the DH in exchange for expanded playoffs, and the interest will go away with the union nixing that deal. But early in the offseason, Manfred told all teams to assume there would be no DH, so that already had to be in the back of DS mind we wouldnt have the DH.
  2. So because he was DFA'd by the Mariners and the Blue Jays, that makes him useless? I'm not sure I'm following this one. The Mariners aren't exactly known for sound personnel decisions, and the Blue Jays took a flyer that didn't immediately pay off in 5 ABs, then needed the roster spot after acquiring Robbie Ray at the deadline last year. No one is going to judge you if you simply say you don't like the guy. There's been plenty of guys I haven't liked over the years. Some I was right on, but plenty I was wrong on too. Yep, I'll admit it... I dont believe in Vogelbach... I just can't see him being our opening day '21 1B... But it's not my $, so see what happens I guess... I'm pass the point of frustration with the lack of moves. The NL Central is here for the taking! This team right now, only needs a legit 1B and 3B... Our offense isnt as bad as it was last year.
  3. This quote says it all to me: “I think Vogey is best suited as a hitter, and that means he’s probably best suited for the DH,” What more do you need to hear? The Brewers do not view him as a full time 1B, and rightfully so. Can he fill in there in a pinch, probably, but there is no way they go into 2021 with Vogelbomb as a full time 1B. Just not going to happen, and if it does, we are in trouble. They're going to be in trouble anyways. Unless the Brewers intend to spend 8-10 million dollars on a free agent (which I give zero chance of happening), they are going to get any players with any prowess. It will be more of the same as last year: aging veterans coming off a down season, or players looking to make a comeback after a major injury/injuries. In that context, why not see what Vogelbach can do? He's got the pedigree, some big league experience and is on the right side of 30. And DFA'd by like 2 or 3 teams before us.

  5. If they felt comfortable, this statement wouldnt be made.
  6. You may not feel that it is preferable, but he very much CAN be the 2021 1B ... if the Brewers feel comfortable enough with him there. They dont........ From Stearns himself...... “I think Vogey is best suited as a hitter, and that means he’s probably best suited for the DH,” Stearns said. “If there is no DH in the National League -- right now we don’t have one -- then we would have to make a determination as to how comfortable we would be devoting meaningful time to him at first base.”
  7. This Ozuna interest just hit an all new interesting since DH isnt coming to NL.
  8. Hmmm, very interesting about the interest in Ozuna since the DH isnt coming now. And also, Vogelbach comes a bench bat... HE CANNOT BE OUR 2021 1B.
  9. Right but why sign him to it, if the plan was always to trade him.
  10. This is a good reminder, he really does seem to do his due diligence, but part of that is also due to the fact he isn't afraid to think outside the box (ie. obtaining Moustakas when we already had Shaw... before Shaw fell off a cliff). Combining the Ozuna report with the interest in Joc Pederson reported earlier in the offseason, it does seem like DS is at least open to either 1.) a trade of Cain or Garcia, or 2.) playing someone who's generally thought of as an outfielder at 1st. Or he's just very certain the DH is still coming to the NL. Or there's some crazy Yelich trade coming that absolutely no one sees. More Yelich trade talk.... Honestly I just don't see us trading him, I mean we just signed the dude to a huge contract then not even a year later we're gonna trade him... What was the point in the extension then?
  11. Well that would be a bizarre use of our financial resources when we so desperately need some corner infielders! Wow, that would be a pretty big "Stearns zigs when you think he's gonna zag" move. I suppose Ozuna would serve as a direct replacement for Braun as a RH corner OFer/DH who offers good power. He's be really redundant with Garcia already on this roster, though, unless they are looking to move Garcia or Cain I suppose. I dont see it happening but damn I love thinking about trading Garcia, signing Ozuna. Ozuna Cain Yelich I really like that!
  12. Uh ok... Pretty sure Ozuna cant play 1B or 3B.
  13. I agree. I am a big fan of Madrigal but he doesn't make any sense when looking at the Brewer's roster. When matching up the Brewer's needs with what the White Sox have to offer, it seems like Vaughn is the one necessary piece needed to get a deal done. For the record, I'm not in favor of trading Burnes but, as a small market team, I don't believe there is ever a situation where a player is just automatically removed from the table. If the offer is right, trading Burnes could be a big benefit to the team depending on what Burnes does in the future and the return from a trade partner. As good as Burnes was last year, just two years ago he was so bad that he was getting shelled in AAA. Maybe he's turned the corner, but maybe not. I'm not in favor of trading him, but if it would happen it could very well be the case of Stearns hitting the jackpot and selling Burnes when he had reached his top peak value. Nobody know for sure what the future holds. I don't think there is enough credibility to these rumors to make me want to crank surplus values on rumored names involved. But just looking at the baseballtradevalues site- White Sox get- RHP-Corbin Burnes Brewers get- 1B-Andrew Vaughn RHP-Codi Heuer RHP-Jared Kelley + one more prospect, likely in the 15-30 area of the White Sox top prospect list If Vaughn turns into a legitimate plus MLB everyday player, it's very likely this would be a good deal for Milwaukee because you are getting 6 years (3 cheap) of an everyday plus starting lineup regular versus 4 years (1 cheap) of a potentially star starting pitcher. So the quality you would lose from Burnes would likely be made up by the two extra cheap years of the everyday player. Add in that you get a relief pitcher that has been pretty much dominant since changing his release point and pretty much owned major league hitters last year. Then you get the White Sox second round pick who has big, big upside (probably grades a big higher than Antoine Kelly and would likely land on most Brewer top prospect lists at #4). And then there would probably be a fourth piece, probably a high upside youngster that hasn't gotten past rookie ball yet. Sometimes I just laugh the combinations that can be achieved using the baseballtradevalues site, but this one doesn't seem at that ridiculous at face value. Personally, I wouldn't be in favor of that deal, but wouldn't be moaning and groaning if that deal was made. That is a trade that seems to make pretty good sense for the Brewers. Hate to say this but I would actually be ok with that trade... But my god, it would suck to deal Burnes.
  14. Padres just keep adding.
  15. I'll take that over what we have currently at 3B.
  16. They really don't. Moose, for instance, was signed Feb 19 2019. Free agents are regularly signed after the start of Spring Training. Action has picked up, but there are still a ton of free agent options out there. Speaking of Moose, damn I would love to work out a trade with Reds to get him back. Why the hell didnt we just sign him to a big contract after the 2nd season????
  17. Totally agree, I love Burnes we need to keep him and Woodruff together as long as we can. I just don't believe any of the rumor, we have no need for Madrigal, Collins is garbage, Heuer would be nice in our pen but our pen is already loaded, Kelley is just a prospect.
  18. And I was watching a podcast last night regarding this rumor... The White Sox dude that they were giving up too much in the trade... Too much??????? Good one! Rumored trade is Burnes and Narvaez to Sox... Madrigal, Zach Collins, Cody Heuer and Jared Kelley to Brewers.
  19. Just read on Twitter that as of Tuesday afternoon, this so called source said Burnes to White Sox rumors were picking up and moving close to a deal. I HOPE TO HELL THESE RUMORS ARE 100% BS!!!! We need to build our staff around Woody, Burnes, Williams and Hader.
  20. Robertson said he considers 3B to be his best position, I bet Stearns agrees and he's our move at 3B. I won't be surprised if Robertson is 2021 3B.
  21. Club announced the deal, one year major deal for $900,000... Not sure if that changes anything with guaranteed or not. No, it does not. It is not guaranteed. Ok got it, thanks.
  22. Club announced the deal, one year major deal for $900,000... Not sure if that changes anything with guaranteed or not.
  23. These may not all be minimum salaries, but all of these players should be relatively cheap and intrigue me one way or another in order on how much I like them: Mike Foltynewicz Brad Peacock Matt Moore Tyler Anderson Dario Agrazal Erasmo Ramírez Nick Tropeano I'm really coming around to the idea of Trevor Williams, I would love to add him to our rotation. Woodruff Burnes Williams Lindblom Lauer I still like Houser but I also want a lefty in our rotation... Move Houser to bullpen, I bet he would do well.
  24. Yep agreed, if Stearns is making moves he needs to do them soon... Before the decent to good players are gone.
  25. Yeah, he can play first base, but he wouldn't add much value to the team if he did. If I had to guess after looking at what he's done, he'll have a slightly above average bat for a 1B/DH, but his defense if used as a first baseman negates that offensive value. Put him on the same side of the infield with Hiura, and we probably have the worst right-side-of-the-infield defense in baseball. My question is, if we only have enough money to upgrade one position, do you upgrade first base to replace Vogelbach, or do you upgrade third base which would probably move Urias to SS and Arcia to either a utility role or a trade candidate? My first choice all offseason (of people who have a realistic chance of being signed by the Brewers) has been Tommy La Stella, so I hope they can sign him to a 2-3 year deal to be the regular third baseman who can also play first base when needed. I'd still like to see a first baseman signed as well, but with La Stella, when they need defense late in games, they can either go La Stella at 3B, Arcia at SS, Urias at 2B (replace Hiura), or Urias at 3B, Arcia at SS, La Stella at 1B (replacing Vogelbach). He seems to be "plus defense" at 1B/3B and "negative defense" at 2B. Edit add: I don't see anyone who really "knocks my socks off" as an everyday first baseman, and I don't want two 1B/DH only guys on the roster unless they announce that we will have a DH this year. I guess if we don't have a DH, I'm okay with Vogelbach as the LH option and a multi-position guy (like a Gyorko re-signing) as the RH option. Two guys who can only play 1B really limits the team, which is not something Stearns seems to like to do. Sign Gyorko to a similar deal we signed him to last year, 1B covered.
