DSL2 prevails 6-3 over the Braves. Demetrio Nadal (1-1, BBx2, HBPx2, SBx2) filling up the box score while Pedro Ibarguen also went 1-4 with a double and stolen base. Christopher Vaszquez homered for the fifth time bringing his line to 203/370/531 on the season with 34 K | 10 BB and 7 HBP in only 81 PAs so far. Vivan Los Tres Resultados Verdades! Luis Guevara had a nice start at 5 IP | 1 R | 5 H | 0 BB | 4 K while Lenin Mendez followed up in relief with 3.2 IP | 1 ER | 4 H | 1 BB | 7 K.

Since losing their 6th game in a row on June 14th to fall to five hundred at 34-34, the Brewers have gone 31-20 in the two months since. Only the Braves (33-16) and Dodgers (32-16) have a better record since 6/16 with the Orioles matching the Brewers at 31-20. Team wRC+ has been 92 over that stretch. Hardly world beating, but a notable step up from the 79 wRC+ they posted from 4/21 through 6/14 while going 20-29 after starting the season 14-5.

With about seven weeks to go and the Brewers kicking off a tough stretch of games leading into the Cubs series thought I'd take a snapshot of where things stand in the NL race as of now. Both are deserving, but I would probably lean Bellinger at this point just because he was so much worse than Yelich over the preceding seasons.

Strikeouts raining down in AZ tonight as Daniel Corniel (8 K | 5 IP), Manuel Rodriguez (6 K | 3 IP) and Bayden Root (2 K | 1 IP) combined for 16 punch outs in a 2-1 Brewers victory. Cooper Pratt (2-4, SB), Juan Baez (1-3, BB), Alejandro Rodriguez (1-3, 2B, BB), and Miguel Briceno (2-4) all reached twice on offense.

Shears is for sure on the radar but the 31 BB | 9 HBP | 13 WP in 41 IP are what kept him off for now.

DSL1 falls 3-2 in extra innings with Yophery Rodriguez (1-3, BB) and Luis Garcia (1-3, 2B, BB) both reaching twice while Eric Prado worked around 7 H | 2 BB to only allow 1 R over 4 IP with 4 K. Gabriel Colmenarez also pitched well with 4 IP | 1 R | 0 H | 3 BB | 3 K. DSL2 loses too, 4-0, with Pedro Ibarguen (1-2, BB) the only batter to reach multiple times while Aneuris Rodriguez struck out six and walked none over his four frames while allowing three hits and one earned run.

The stadium district is responsible for the AmFam repairs, not Mark A. If Yelich waived his NTC, and if the Brewers found a trade partner willing to take on his entire contract, I would hope that money saved would be re-invested in the payroll.

Looks like Lara will be the second youngest player in the Midwest League after Ethan Salas.

The Padres are perfectly positioned for the ALL IN offseason of ALL TIME. Hader, record setting reliever contract...check. Soto, record setting pre-FA extension...check. and, the coup de grace, OHTANI. That outlay would only set Seidler back like one point a couple two tree billion. Cohen would be so rattled.

The hit rate for international prospects is extremely small because developing foreign teenagers is a long, hard process. That Stearns and company have Uribe already contributing with Chourio and Quero not that far off, after taking over an organization with such a dismal track record on the international front, could be interpreted as signs of progress. Or maybe not, who knows, I don’t pretend to know the future with any degree of certainty. What fun would that be? I do know that his name is Kevin Ereu though, and he’s the same age as a high school junior so writing him off as some kind of bust just because he didn’t immediately hit the ground running in the DSL is probably a little pre-mature, even if the odds are overwhelmingly stacked against him (or any other million dollar international teenager) ever becoming an MLB star.

Which college/HS did Abner Uribe go to? Quero is looking like a pretty nice outlier so far too, up to #34 on the MLB Top 100. Stearns & company overhauled the international department some years ago, and we’re now starting to see the fruits of those labors. Results from past regimes are of minimal relevance at this point.

Yeah. Any talk of relocation at this point is just a negotiating tactic to garner headlines and play on casual fan emotion. The Rays stadium lease is up three years before ours, so it’s a lot more pertinent for a franchise like them who have way worse stadium and fan support situations, and even then they are still considered unlikely to relocate at this point.
