  1. Herbert having a day for Carolina with a BB, 2B and HR in four trips to the plate.
  2. Could not have possibly been a more satisfying ending than Jrue showing Smart how defense is actually played twice in a row.
  3. So far Renfroe is averaging 9.5 ABs per RBI compared to marks of 5.4, 5.5, 6.9 and 5.9 ABs per RBI the past four seasons. Sequencing doesn't even out over the course of 162 games, much less at this early juncture in the season, so I don't think there is much predictive power to his current rate. By the end of the season he will likely regress towards his established mean and be more productive driving runners in.
  4. CF is definitely the most glaring need at this point, how they approach it will be one of the more intriguing angles to follow this season for sure. Love Lorenzo, but he has looked cooked. Think they’ll give him a lil more time to figure it out before Tyrone starts getting more starts. Between Mitchell/Frelick in AA (and even Turang getting a handful of CF starts in AAA) plus Stearns & company’s reticence to really deal top prospects post-Yelich trade, I think any addition will be more of the place holder variety than the deal legit prospect capital for a Laureano/Mullins/Reynolds type of trade.
  5. Yeah, pretty hilarious reading Celts fans thinking they got jobbed by the refs when they were actually massaging them back in the game with a 17-0 free throw disparity over the last 16 minutes. Also cracks me up how proud they were that they bullied KD in round one, but now that Giannis is stealing their lunch money they cry because he plays too rough.
  6. Good look at Woody’s evolving change up usage & effectiveness over at FanGraphs today… https://blogs.fangraphs.com/brandon-woodruff-has-leveled-up-his-changeup/ His 30.5% swinging strike rate on the pitch currently leads all starters who have thrown at least 50 change ups so far. Will be interesting to see if the improvements hold over the course of the season. They also did a breakdown of Rowdy’s hot start on Friday… https://blogs.fangraphs.com/rowdy-tellez-is-absolutely-mashing/ Couple nuggets in the comment section I wasn’t aware of… Even though he was a 30th round pick, Rowdy got 850k to sign, the highest bonus in the TOR draft class that year. Blue Jays had that extra cash because their 1st round pick decided to go to college, Phil Bickford. Also noted that Rowdy ranked high in the stats based KATOH prospect rankings that Chris Mitchell used to publish before getting hired by the Twins. Some relevant rankings from his last Top 100 in 2018… #13 Adames, #20 Urias, #35 Caratini, #77 Burnes, #83 Woodruff, #95 Peralta Former Brewers on the list included… #8 Grisham, #11 Brinson, #50 Banda, #100 Dubon For comparison, out of BA, BPro & MLB, here are the range of rankings for those same players pre-2018… Adames (15-19), Urias (32-74), Caratini (UR), Burnes (69-80), Woodruff (61-UR), Peralta (UR), Grisham (UR), Brinson (18-27), Banda (UR), Dubon (UR)
  7. Chourio goes four for four with a double, a bomb & a stolen bag to cap off a pretty ridiculous (480/519/800) first week of affiliated ball.
  8. Carolina delayed, but Chourio added an RBI double to his ledger before the weather intervened. Pablo Garabitos also added 3.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 3 K out of the pen to lower his ERA to 1.93 on the season,
  9. Small bounces back nicely with 5 K over three scoreless IP, which included stranding a lead off triple in the 2nd inning.
  10. Jackson Chourio staying hot with a single, double and run scored in his first two trips to the plate.
  11. Looks like Tyler Thornburg is on the Braves, maybe we’ll see him at some point today or later this weekend. Manny is on the DL currently, though I believe he is eligible for reinstatement. Was batting 143/235/143 in 17 PAs before hitting the shelf.
  12. Wisconsin gets on the board first without the benefit of a base hit as Peters & Black both walked, with Peters moving to third on what must have been a pretty well hit fly ball to LF by JGJ & then scoring on a Warren sac fly.
  13. Biloxi on the board first as Dillard goes deep for the second time this season & in as many days.
  14. Ethan Small’s ERA will be taking a big jump after giving up a two out grand slam in the first frame.
  15. The Turang Machine with another start in CF. Looks like that is his 4th on the grass vs 19 at SS so far this year.
  16. Padres have at least been good so far this year & the various projections think they are more legit than the Phils, playoff odds… SDP: 538 (80%) | FanGraphs (84.5%) | BPro (96.4%) PHI: 538 (30%) | FanGraphs (32.5%) | BPro (54.1%)
  17. They've definitely had the payroll & names of a contender since signing Harper & JTR in 2019, but have only gone 202-208 over that stretch. Pretenders for me until they prove otherwise.
  18. Roughly 1/6th of the way through the season & the schedule picks up a little bit here over next stretch with series coming up @ATL, vs ATL, @SDP, vs SDP and @STL among contenders over the next 30 games, compared to only facing STL among contenders during our first 26 games. Current WS Odds at FanGraphs 10.4% (4th), BPro 10.1% (3rd), 538 9% (3rd) and BRef 7.7% (4th).
  19. The offense is very unlikely to finish the season 1st in runs scored like they are currently or bottom five like they were the first two & a half weeks of the season. After 162 games they will almost surely finish somewhere in between those two extremes. FanGraphs currently projects them as the 8th best offense... https://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?position=Standings BPro currently projects them as the 5th best offense,,, https://www.baseballprospectus.com/standings/
  20. If the Brewers roster construction during his tenure is any indication, it is possible Stearns likely enjoys maintaining some degree of flexibility in his personal life as well.
  21. Select box score highlights… CAR: Hendry with a 1B & BB, Chourio with a 2B, Quero with a HR, Herbert with two (!!) BBs and a SB. WIS: Antoine Kelly with 5 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 10 K, Gray Jr. with a 1B & three BBs & a SB, Darrien Miller with one each 1B/BB/SB, Tristan Peters a 1B/BB, Zavier Warren two BBs & a HBP BLX: Frelick two 1Bs, Mitchell two BBs & a SB, Wiemer & Zamora with a 2B each, Dillard & Reetz with a HR each, Valerio a 1B & BB. NSH: Brosseau & Jackson with a 1B & 2B each, Tyler White with two 1Bs, a BB & a SB, Jonathan Davis with one 1B/BB/SB each, Trevor Kelly with three Ks & one BB in his frame to lower his ERA to 0.87
  22. Godsmack concert at Fiserv pushed Bucks/Celts to Saturday.
  23. People would love Yuni nowadays, that .261 career batting average is like 30 points over MLB average now.
  24. Free Endorphin hits for all!! Tyrone Taylor bombs help too.
