  1. Don't know anything about these guys, but there is a grouping of four college arms around the range of our 2nd pick (#53) on the composite rankings Eye Black posted a few pages back... 49 | Nick Swiney | LHP | North Carolina State 50 | Cole Henry | RHP | Louisiana State 51 | Tommy Mace | RHP | Florida 52 | Logan Allen | LHP | Florida International Also caught a blurb on FG about Landon Knack (#113 on EB's composite rankings) out of East Tennessee State who apparently had a velocity bump this year & posted 51 Ks versus only 1 BB in 25 IP before the shutdown. Maybe a guy in play for our 3rd pick at 92?
  2. Yeah, he doesn't need to develop power to be a solid contributor, it's just a bonus that he seems like the kind of guy who might be a candidate to do so. Lorenzo's 2014 (502 PA, 109 OPS+, +18 field, 4.4 WAR) & 2016 (434 PA, 100 OPS+, +11 field, 3.0 WAR) seasons provide pretty good rough templates of what Garrett could become even without tapping into his power.
  3. Turang is listed at 6', 173 lbs compared to 6' 3", 204 lbs for Mitchell. Garrett has a much better frame & more raw power, so I'm not sure Brice is the best comp.
  4. As much as I'm really intrigued by Bitsko (think the TB developement group will turn him into a stud), can't complain at all about the Mitchell pick. Floor seems really high with the speed/defense/arm combo in CF. Even if he stays more slash & dash and ends up in the 100-110 OPS+ range you're still talking about a 3-ish WAR guy.
  5. New York Mets 2020 first round pick Pete Crow-Armstrong's real life mother played Billy Haywood's mom in Little Big League. Too bad he didn't make it until the Twins pick.
  6. If I'm not mistaken the foul ball in Ferris Bueller's Day Off was off the bat of Washington, so in addition to catching a little Claude (Monet) Ferris also caught a little Claudell on his day off.
  7. Yes, but undrafted players can only sign for $20,000 this year so most HS players & college juniors who don't get picked will probably forego that in hope of a larger future payday.
  8. Cardinals chairman Bill DeWitt Jr says the baseball industry isn't very profitable, should probably just shut the whole thing down in that case. I mean what's the point of even carrying on for the meager profits these owners have to scrape by on?
  9. The latest CBS mock has us going with RHP Tanner Burns from Auburn... https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/2020-mlb-mock-draft-spencer-torkelson-austin-martin-go-1-2-marlins-select-first-pitcher-off-board/ Would love it if we could somehow come out of this with HS RHP Nick Bitsko, FG had him going 18 while CBS has him mocked at 23. Sounds like kind of an unknown with reclassifying & not pitching this spring, but I think the Brewers could be intrigued by him being one of the younger arms in the draft & the FB/CB combo.
  10. FanGraphs second mock is out today with us selecting Texas Tech RHP Clayton Beeter... https://blogs.fangraphs.com/mock-draft-2-0-2/ Looks like Bailey would have to slip, though they have Wilcox & Soderstrom going in our range. The first FG mock mentioned Wilcox's "fastball traits are considered less desirable by analytically-inclined draft rooms", which makes me think he's probably out for us & with the high bust rate for HS catchers Soderstrom seems kind of iffy unless they really believe in the bat. Peter Crow-Armstrong kind of sounds like an OF version of Turang in that he was considered one of the top HS kids in his class as a junior, then slipped some his senior year. Also sort of reminds me of a HS version of Ray being tooled up, but with questions about the hit tool.
  11. Never heard of Long Gone, sounds interesting. Is that an older movie? I remember seeing the Bingo movie, but that was a LONG time ago...Had to be the 70's. Think Long Gone was an HBO Original right around the same time as Bull Durham. Kind of has a similar set up with the player/manager (William Petersen of CSI) passing on wisdom to the new prospect (Dermot Mulroney playing a 2B named Weeks).
  12. Couple two tree deep cuts... Long Gone: Minor league baseball intersects with southern small town life in the 1950's with a rare speaking part by Teller. Bingo Long's Traveling All Stars & Motor Kings: James Earl Jones, Billy Dee Williams & Richard Pryor barnstorm through the country shortly before the breaking of the color barrier. X-Files The Unnatural: Duchovny directed this episode about a Josh Gibson inspired character who may truly be from out of this world.
  13. Dailymail isn't something I would use in an academic debate but they are basically TMZ. Sensationalized news but very, very rarely incorrect. They'll happily post rumors but once they run with something they often get it right and often get it first ($$$). Sweden deaths per million: 438.76 (5th) USofA deaths per million: 324.08 (9th) https://www.statista.com/statistics/1104709/coronavirus-deaths-worldwide-per-million-inhabitants/
  14. FanGraphs list is out... https://blogs.fangraphs.com/top-35-prospects-milwaukee-brewers/ System Overview... The Brewers have contended for the last two years, which means they’ve traded prospects and other assets for big leaguers, weakening the system pretty significantly. They’ve also pretty meaningfully reconfigured the structure of their scouting during that time (they have just two people listed as pro scouts on this year’s org roster) and this, combined with it having been a while since they last traded for a bunch of prospects, makes it tough to nail down the org’s tendencies on the pro side. On the amateur side, pitch data clearly seems important. Last year I mentioned that this org appears to desire mechanical uniqueness moreso than other clubs, which I still think is true. The Brewers also have more junior college and Venezuelan prospects than the average org.
  15. "Privatization of profits + socialization of losses = Capitalism, apparently." - sveumrules, April 29 2020 "You don't privatize the gains & socialize the losses." - Scott Boras, May 14 2020 We must have seen the same bumper sticker.
  16. Looks like FanGraphs has us taking Mississippi State second baseman Justin Foscue who "walked 15 times and struck out just thrice before the shutdown. He’s a multi-year performer at an SEC school and plays a premium position, the kind of player who teams with a strong quantifiable track record gravitate toward." Full mock here... https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2020-mock-draft-mach-one/
  17. I care. Injuries are always a risk regardless of circumstances. The Bucks already won an asterisk-less title in 1971. Is there an asterisk next to the 1981 World Series winner or the 1999 NBA Champions?
  18. While I'd love to have a bunch of top rated prospects all throughout the minor leagues, these things tend to run in cycles, especially for small market teams who might not be able to match the resources of some of richer teams. Before 2016 John Sickels had the Crew with the 5th best farm system in all of MLB. Our top four prospects on the list were Orlando Arcia, Jorge Lopez, Brett Phillips & Jacob Nottingham before you got to Hader in 5th. (Zach Davies & Adrian Houser were #14/#15). Before 2017 Sickels had the Crew with the 7th best farm system, still pretty good. Hader was #2 this time, with Brinson (#1), Corey Ray (#3), Isan Diaz (#4), Mauricio Dubon (#5) & Luis Ortiz (#6) all ahead of Brandon Woodruff (#7) & Freddy Peralta (C+ grade, not ranked). Over the last three years the Brewers have won 271 games (8th in MLB, more than model small markets Oakland/Tampa Bay, more than the hated Cardinals, more than the perpetually prospect laden Braves). Stearns & company have held on to all the right guys so far while pretty much everyone they have traded away has underwhelmed. I'll take that track record of success over BA's or any other public prospectors.

If baseball is in trouble with the younger generation, I can't imagine how bad golf is doing. Tiger has won one Major in the last 12 years & he's still considered some kind of draw?
  20. Does the 1.15 million include a closet full of Remetees?
  21. Too young to have seen Marques myself (earliest Bucks memory is when they got Sikma), but from my impression it seems like the only thing Allen really has an advantage at is shooting. Ray's probably a better fit offensively with the other four because of the three ball, but Marques is better defensively as a true SF (where Ray/Sid gives you two SG) so I'd probably go with the original MJ.
  22. Fans likely won't be allowed during whatever the 2020 season end up being, so I don't think we'll see Frankie Rod this year.
  23. We wont know where an outsider would ranking inside a particular FV range, but we will see who is also in the that range (along with those in ranges above & below).. I will be curious if/ where Mark Mathias appears on the MKE list.. TBH I was pleasantly surprised to see Andres on the CLE listing as he had not appeared on any other CLE listing this off-season... Mathias didn't make FG's Cleveland list prior to 2019 & I don't think he really did anything to change his perceived value during the course of the season so I wouldn't expect to see him on the Brewers list when it is eventually released. FG had a pretty good breakdown of the trade when it went down that gives some possible insight for each team's motivations... https://blogs.fangraphs.com/on-40-man-decision-day-and-the-prospects-who-moved/
  24. I would guess FG will have Feliciano at 45 with Nottingham & Henry as 40s when they publish their Brewers list. I'd probably rank Melendez behind Jacob & Payton just based on proximity.
  25. One of the most effortless comedic actors ever for sure. Pretty sure its only available on YouTube at this point, but even before Fred kind of broke through in Guffman & Best in Show, he was absolutely hilarious in the Cinemax series History of White People in America playing the hapless father of a stereotical suburban 80s family.
