  1. Couple interviews with Josh over at FanGraphs the last two days... https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-remaking-of-a-pitcher-in-the-kbo-a-conversation-with-josh-lindblom-part-1/ https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-remaking-of-a-pitcher-in-the-kbo-a-conversation-with-josh-lindblom-part-2/ Thought this tidbit was interesting... "I had a few other offers from some different teams but after going to the Winter Meetings, sitting down with David Stearns and the rest of the front office, they had a plan for me. And they didn’t think that my development was done. It was just an awesome fit with that organization."
  2. As long as Waukesha opens up so my Aunt Karen can finally get her haircut!!
  3. Yount the obvious #1. Even though Hardy has the edge as both a fielder (+39 vs +16) & hitter (95 OPS+ vs 89 OPS+), I think I'd go with Valentin as my backup since his superior base running (+20 vs -9) is a better fit off the bench.
  4. I would guess most undrafted HS kids that just miss out on being drafted will just go to college & take their chances rather than settle for $20,000. Since the money is going to be the same for all undrafted players, a team like Milwaukee with more opportunity available due to a weak farm system might end up having an advantage.
  5. Kind of tangential, but a few years back when I was down in Biloxi for some Shuckers games I drove through Kiln & stopped for a couple two tree Miller's High Lifes at the Broke Spoke & the only differences I could discern between Southern Mississippi & Northern Wisconsin were the latitude & the accents.
  6. Great series. Could totally see the episde about the UWF being a made into a movie with Jonah Hill playing Herb Abrams.
  7. Pretty interesting deep dive on the KBO bat flipping phenomena... http://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/17668845/korean-bat-flip
  8. I would say that if a hypothetical system were created wherein...A) it was so intentionally difficult to filter through the various sources of information to find out what is "true" or not, that...B) the end result was most people either disengaged completely or immediately sided with whichever source confirmed their pre-existing beliefs, then...C) that would stand to benefit the 1% of the 1% more than anyone else. "We will know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." - William Casey, CIA Director, 1981 http://truthstreammedia.com/2015/01/13/cia-flashback-well-know-our-disinformation-program-is-complete-when-everything-the-american-public-believes-is-false/
  9. Looking at things a little closer, Nilsson never really hit during the three years he was behind the plate & didn't start raking until he moved to 1B/DH. Think I'm gonna have to bump him down to AAA with BJ & go with Porter as my backup instead since he is only marginally worse as a hitter, but has the advantage of being an actual competent backstop.
  10. I'd guess I'd like to see some era-adjusted context for Gantner's numbers as others did for the Scott/Sexson numbers. Gantner's career BA was significantly higher than Weeks' career BA. Overall Fangraphs has it pretty close... Gantner: 6787 PA | 87 wRC+ | 19.5 WAR Weeks: 4700 PA | 108 wRC+ | 18.6 WAR Weeks clearly more dynamic offensively, Gantner with longevity & an ability to actually field the position. Weeks fares much worse by DRS (-113) than UZR (-46), though, so their BRef WAR isnt particularly close with Gumby at 22.5 & Rickie at 12.5. Adjusting their batting lines for era looks a little something like... Player: AVG+/OBP+/SLG+ | K%+/BB%+ Weeks: 94/104/102 | 131/122 Gantner: 104/97/89 | 55/66 Both are pretty illustrative of their era with Gumby never really walking or striking out & dinking a bunch of singles, while Rickie traded average & contact for power & walks. For my all time Brewers team I'd probably cheat a little & slot in Molly at second. In the four seasons he was a primary 2B he managed over 15 bWAR with positive fielding numbers, so not really as much of a stretch as it might seem.
  11. League average OPS during Scott's tenure from 1972-76 ranged from .664 to .704 compared to a league average OPS of .748 to .782 during Sexson's tenure from 2000-03, which is why their OPS+ marks of 131/133 are essentially identical. Throw in that Scott has over 1,000 more PAs with the Brewers & was a far superior fielder (+42 vs -6), and it is hard for me to justifiably rank Sexson above him.
  12. Cooper | 6492 PA | 123 OPS+ | 30.8 WAR Scott | 3320 PA | 131 OPS+ | 22.5 WAR Fielder | 4210 PA | 143 OPS+ | 16.8 WAR Sexson | 2288 PA | 133 OPS+ | 11.3 WAR Tough call between Scott (better hitter & fielder) & Cooper (longevity), but I'd probably go with Cecil as the starter & Prince as the backup/primary DH. Sorry, Boomer.
  13. Lucroy | 3137 PA | 110 OPS+ | 17.3 WAR Surhoff | 4304 PA | 92 OPS+ | 15.4 WAR Porter | 2009 PA | 105 OPS+ | 11.1 WAR Nilsson | 3153 PA | 110 OPS+ | 10.6 WAR Moore | 4358 PA | 89 OPS+ | 10.5 WAR Simmons | 2768 PA | 100 OPS+ | 6.1 WAR Lucroy & Nilsson on the 25 man for me with BJ in AAA.
  14. Isn't this happening already? At least now it would be out in the open and we can stop pretending all the amateur student athlete nonsense. Yeah, believe this is more or less how Sonny Vacarro built his empire.
  15. Thanks for the corrections on 2008, I admittedly pay very little attention to finance because I read stuff about how American Billionaires have seen their wealth increase by 308 billion since the start of C19 or by 1,130% since 1990 & I kind of lose interest in the minutiae after that... https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/26/heads-we-win-tails-you-lose-how-americas-rich-have-turned-pandemic-into-profit
  16. Cute bumper sticker, but wildly inaccurate. Large companies are getting loans which they have to pay back. Individuals are getting paid for being out of work, a huge percentage are getting paid more to be out of work than when they were working. People and small business are getting far more assistance than corporate America. Large companies are getting loans because they've overly privatized past profits. If they hadn't they wouldn't require the "loans" (how much of the 2008 bailout money was repaid?) to socialize their losses. If people & small businesses are getting far more assistance than Corporate America then people & small businesses should emerge from this whole thing with some of their providence reclaimed from Corporate America, er no? I'll stay tuned for the results.
  17. If there is no NBA Championship there is no NBA Champion. 2019-20 Bucks = 1994 Expos.
  18. Can someone explain to me why average citizens living paycheck to paycheck are realistically expected to save 3-6 months of living expenses, but companies are bleeding after one month of reduced profits? Why can't they apply the same principles of saving 3-6 months of expenses in the event of a global economic catastrophe? Privatization of profits + socialization of losses = Capitalism, apparently.
  19. That steategy may have been outdated for some time, then again maybe things have shifted so far away from the run game that the pendulum is starting to swing back. More to be gained by being an early adopter if that's the case. Outscoring everyone with a mediocre defense has essentially been the formula here for the last 30 years, I'm fine with possibly trying something new.
  20. If we hadn't traded up & went with a more immediate need based approach we could be looking at something like this... #30: Higgins/Pittman WR (went #33/34) #62: Gay/Wilson ILB (went #63/65) #94: Niang/Peart OT (went #96/99) or Keene/Trautman TE (went #101/105) #136 was about ten picks ago & I admittedly know nothing about any of these guys, who would've been the best fit that was still available?
  21. So looking at immediate need & who was available (& admittedly knowing nothing about any of these guys) we "should have" drafted... #30: Higgins/Pittman WR (went #33/34) #62: Gay/Wilson ILB (went #63/65) #94: Niang/Peart OT (went #96/99) or Keene/Trautman TE (went #101/105) How would people feel about those picks & still having our fourth?
  22. Yes, it is okay to think out of the box sometimes. Gute seems to be doing just that with his picks so far. Fans seem to be overwhelmingly NOT OK with it.
  23. I think the easiest way to deal with it is to wait until an official announcement comes from MLB about what exactly is going to happen with regards to the 2020 season. Until that announcement comes from MLB...patience, grasshopper.
  24. When we drafted Rodgers, Favre was entering his age 36 season with zero missed career starts. Now, Rodgers is entering his age 37 season with 18 career missed starts plus a number where he was limited by injury. Timing seems fine to me, especially if they believe Love was their best chance of getting a future QB over the next couple two tree years.
  25. Wait, I thought 13-3 was a mirage last year because no one predicted it before the season started, we didn't have the "identity" or point differential to support it & then the NFCCG happened? Now its justification to draft for immediate need over BPA?
