  1. Only 22 pitchers in the Southern League with at least 20 IP so far, but Cornielle’s 2.54 FIP is tops on that short list. Of course he won’t go the whole year giving up zero home runs, so his 3.44 xFIP isn’t quite as shiny. Also has a .128 batting average against (second lowest is .152, league average is .223) which is due for regression as the innings add up. Not quite as many IP (12.2) but fellow Shuckers international signee Stiven Cruz is off to a nice start too with a 1.46 FIP / 2.42 xFIP in the early going.
  2. Thought about keeping Knoth on the end of the list (he’s clearly got higher upside than CarRod for instance) but with that rehab timeline we won’t have any idea where he’s really at for over a year still and probably closer to sometime in 2027 when he presumably will be looking to stay healthy for a full season at AA (will that be his R5 year too? if so makes his recovery timeline that much more important). Lara is a 5th OF for me until he shows more consistency impacting the ball. Being so young for AA and the defense are huge pluses for him, but I’m not sure how much physical projection is in there. He’s got 600 PAs now of unimpressive BABIP between last year and the start of this year.
  3. Childers back out for the ninth and he goes K, BB, BB, K and 4-3 to seal the Biloxi win and get them on the right side of the ledger at 13 W - 12 L.
  4. Dikember back out for the ninth and goes four up, three down to secure the Wisco win improving to 10 W - 15 L on the season.
  5. Aaron Rund went six up six down (2 K) in relief of Letson before Dikember Sanchez finally conceded a run top of eight. Blake Burke has also gone bombs away. 6-1 Wisco heading to the ninth.
  6. Phew, Childers digs deep and gets two strikeouts to prevent further damage.
  7. Brian Fitzpatrick followed Cornielle with three scoreless frames of 0 H | 1 BB | 3 K work, but Bo Bowman (walk, walk, double/E4, wild pitch, walk) and now Will Childers (walk, sac fly, walk) have run into trouble in the eighth. Bases loaded, one out, lead down to 7-4.
  8. Liranzo (walk, pop out) and Tyler Jay (strike out, two singles, ground out) worked around traffic to put up another zero in the eighth. Adam Hall singled, stole second and scored on a Jimmy Herron single for an insurance run in the ninth. Bryan Hudson on for the save in a 4-1 ballgame.
  9. Wild pitch got the Mudcats within one at 7-6, but Bitonti flew out to end it.
  10. Two outs in the ninth. Tyler Rodriguez HBP, Walther double, Made walk, Payne single, Adamczewski double has it 7-5 Carolina. Pitching change.
  11. Cooper Pratt doubled, went to third on a balk and scored on a Ramon Rodriguez sac fly in the seventh. Now Biloxi has loaded em up in the eighth with a Restituyo HBP, Lara walk and Adams single setting up Pratt for a sac fly of his own to make it 7-1 Shuckers.
  12. Logan Henderson out after six innings of 1 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 6 K. Jesus Liranzo on for the seventh and goes four up three down with a two out single to old friend Eddy Alvarez the lone blemish.
  13. Jadher Areinamo next in line for the homer barrage, 5-0 Wisco bottom five Letson at five scoreless with 3 H | 1 BB | 9 K.
  14. Ramon Rodriguez bomb gives the Shuckers a 5-1 lead top of six.
  15. Monasterio doubled, stole third, and scored on a two run Oliver Dunn home run. Now Wes Clarke has gone back to back to make it 3–1 Nashville top of six.
  16. Melvin hit the first batter in the fifth, then got a 5-4-3 double play before giving up a triple to the third man up. At a season high 75 pitches Jack Seppings is on to try for the strand.
  17. Carlos Rodriguez singled, stole second and came around to score on a Garrett Cooper single. Those guys ain’t Brewers anymore though so Nashville trails 1-0 middle two.
  18. Melvin Hernandez works around a leadoff single and one out double by getting a pair of groundouts to secure the zero top of four.
  19. Walther single, Made single (caught stealing), Payne walk (stolen base), and Adamczewski sac fly gets Carolina a run bottom of three.
  20. Biloxi strong out of the gate with an Adams double, Pratt single, Wilken double, Warren sac fly and Rodriguez single shaking out to three runs in the first.
  21. White Sox have beat BOS (three times lol), MIN (twice), LAA, ATH, and us for their eight wins. Rockies have beat TBR, ATL, WAS, ATH, and us for their five wins. So at this still early juncture it’s just the Brewers and A’s that have lost to each of the two legitimately horrendous teams. It would be perfectly reasonable to find this kind of not so fun fact to be a harbinger of doom, but I don’t see it like that. Way I see things, Afterlife Ueck was never gonna pull those strings seven months straight for wire to wire dominance, that wouldn’t be exciting. I think Zombie Bob is a lil more mischievous than that. He’s gonna want to inject some drama (and levity) into the proceedings, some ups and downs along the way. Curious to see what heavenly delights he has in store for the first Cubs series.
  22. Interesting that Carlos Rodriguez made the list over Chad Patrick when they are the same general kind of pitcher but one is taking care of business in MLB versus AAA. Also surprised Black came in higher ranked than EMJ considering Ernesto raked to end last year, and then again in spring training and continuing through to Nashville versus Black being underwhelming and now hurt for going on a year now Mildly shocked Wilken, Lara and Knoth all held onto spots between injury and spotty performance when so many other players of the same calibre are healthy and producing right now. Hard for me to include Mike Boeve too as a guy who is currently hurt and was trending towards being a contact only 1B prospect pre-injury, much less still in the Top Ten. Thought I'd be in the minority with Misio over Made, but looks like that wasn't the case either.
  23. Looks like he's reigned in his command somewhat to start the year with "only" 8 BB in 15 IP versus 42 BB in 52 IP last year. Hopefully Carolina can show some patience and then pounce on any mistakes.
  24. Looks like StatCast has Sal in the negative too, though not quite so severe at only -2. Would imagine that should stabilize some as the season goes on. On the team level the Brewers are a little below their usual rankings at +2 DRS (20th), +4 FRV (7th), and a .708 defensive efficiency (11th) which is just a simple measure of what percent of batted balls result in outs. Since that last one is a rate stat it does a decent job showing how volatile the early season numbers are. Last year the Brewers .709 DefEff tied for 3rd behind SEA in 1st at .724 and just behind LAD in 2nd at .710. So far this year there are six teams at .724 or higher (CIN tops at .754), and another three teams ahead of last year’s second best 162 game rate, so still lots of noise in there. Other bottom line thing to look at is good old fashioned ERA/FIP gap, currently at 4.08/4.47 for a -0.39 (7th). A little behind their recent pace of -0.51 the last two years, If we look at just April after the ugly 0 W - 4 L start though it comes out at 2.95/3.64 for a lot nicer -0.69 gap.
