FanGraphs offers custom date range leaderboards. The linked leaderboard above is from May 18th onward during which time the Brewers have gone 21 W - 10 L, 3rd best record in MLB. Yelich (117 PA | 170 wRC+), Collins (84 PA | 138 wRC+), Chourio (137 PA | 131 wRC+), Frelick (127 PA | 121 wRC+), and Durbin (110 PA | 113 wRC+) have been doing most of the heavy lifting. Contreras (124 PA | 102 wRC+) has been fine for a catcher but obviously below his typically high personal standard, Ortiz (101 PA | 88 wRC+) has still been below average but greatly improved from the 156 PA of 26 wRC+ he started the year with, Turang (129 PA | 82 wRC+) and Hoskins (116 PA | 80 wRC+) have been the only real drags among the regular position players during this recent run and even then Brice has still added some value with his legs and glove.

Durbin 0.5 WAR > Williams -0.5 rWAR Or if one prefers BRef… Durbin 1.0 WAR > Williams -0.3 WAR Caleb’s also been pretty clutch with his +0.98 win probability added tops among Brewers batters. Fielding metrics are nice to see too after the loud chorus of “not a third baseman” following his acquisition.

Yesterday marked Matt Arnold’s 400th game leading the Brewers front office and we all like round numbers so I thought it might be a nice time to see how the Brewers have fared in a few different categories under his leadership. Lets start with the offense. Since 2023 the Brewers 97 wRC+ ranks 18th, three percent below average. Their highest ranking in the batters box is a 9.6 BB% (3rd) while their lowest is a .146 ISO (25th). To walk that much with that little power is kind of impressive in its own right. But their best offensive asset happens when they leave the box with +36.0 BsR (1st) and 429 SB (3rd). This has helped them exceed the implications of their unimpressive wRC+ to score 1,849 runs (10th). Being fairly prolific with RISP at 4,038 PA (5th) of 114 wRC+ (3rd) for 1,340 RBI (4th) has surely helped too. When it comes to the pitchers and the things they exert the most direct control over - walks, strikeouts, and home runs - the Brewers have been right around average with a 99 FIP- and 35.9 fWAR (18th). But let’s bring those position players back for a second, their +125 DRS (2nd) and +91 FRV (1st) in the field has helped the pitchers limit hits (94 AVG+ | 1st), strand runners (105 LOB+ | 1st), and keep runs off the board (88 ERA- | 1st and 56.2 rWAR | 2nd) better than just about any other team in baseball. Put it all together, 10th in runs scored, 2nd in runs allowed, and the Brewers 226 W - 174 L record over Arnold’s first 400 games are the 4th most wins in MLB behind LAD (245), PHI (231), and ATL (227). Guess all that’s really left to do is make the playoffs again this year then win the whole dang thing for Ueck.

Going back to the start of the 2022 season there are 34 pitchers in MLB with at least 500 IP. Two of those pitchers are Joe Ryan (523 IP) and Freddy Peralta (505 IP). They do a lot of stuff the same. Strike guys out (Peralta 126 K+ | Ryan 121 K+), get a bunch of fly balls (Ryan 130 FB+ | Peralta 117 FB+), allow the fewest line drives (Ryan 88 LD+ | Peralta 89 LD+), throw a ton of four seamers (Ryan 55.2% | Peralta 54.1%), limit base runners (Ryan 83 WHIP+ | Peralta 87 WHIP+), give up more homers than average (Peralta 107 HR+ | Ryan 120 HR+). Biggest difference is walks. Ryan's nice 69 BB+ is 8th lowest, Peralta's 104 BB+ is 3rd highest. Where Freddy makes up for that somewhat is by being one of the very hardest pitchers to get a hit off of (85 AVG+) where Joe is still really good but not quite elite with a 92 AVG+. Put it all together and Freddy's got an 85 ERA- | 92 FIP- shaking out to 10.9 rWAR | 8.8 fWAR versus Joe having a 93 ERA- | 93 FIP- shaking out to 9.3 rWAR | 9.3 fWAR. The Brewers defense putting up +169 DRS (2nd) | +96 FRV (3rd) versus +8 DRS (17th) | -21 FRV (20th) for the Twins over that stretch is likely a factor in Freddy having the edge in ERA and runs allowed WAR.

Depending how things go, Cooper Pratt could be in the mix at SS as early as 2027. Ortiz bottomed out with a .170 average over his first 159 plate appearances this year, but has hit for a .243 average in his last 86 plate appearances. Last year he hit for a .239 average over 511 plate appearances.

Ask & ye shall receive. If I'm reading the league splits on BRef correctly, MLB as a whole hits 164/197/246 after finding themselves in an 0-2 count. The Brewers 621 plate appearances are 5th most in this split with their 171/208/250 triple slash adding up to a .458 OPS which is 9th "best" in the split. Chourio at 242/242/400 has done a decent job fighting back all things considered, Yelich at 080/138/147...not so much. On the pitching side the Brewers 624 plate appearances are also 5th most and they've gotten almost exactly average results with a 166/193/246 triple slash. Clicking one more time for fun, it looks like Freddy Peralta has had 82 PA after an 0-2 count with a 105/160/105 triple slash so far this year.

I think Gasser at seven makes sense. After the consensus Top Six guys he has the highest floor by virtue of already having 28 IP of 62 ERA- | 83 FIP- under his belt in MLB. Obviously the surgery and long layoff clouds things somewhat, but pretty easy to see him sliding back into the rotation and being able to provide something along the lines of Patrick or Priester quality innings.

The evolution of Wilken's monthly splits are pretty nuts... April (103 PA) 164/408/342 (139 wRC+) 26.2 BB% | 27.2 K% May (114 PA) 237/368/570 (173 wRC+) 17.5 BB% | 26.3 K% June (66 PA) 304/409/786 (241 wRC+) 15.2 BB% | 24.2 K% Crazy thing about June is that he's got his walk rate down to a much more tenable place, he's got the average over three hundred, the K rate is gradually diminishing, and still has only two singles in those 66 PA with nine doubles and six homers accounting for the rest of his 17 hits this month.

Was clicking around on some leaderboards, and noticed that a Dodgers prospect named Mike Sirota leads all of the minor leagues (minimum 200 PA) with a 194 wRC+. Thought that name sounded familiar, and it turns out he was traded by the Reds (along with the 41st pick in this year's draft) for Gavin Lux - who Cincy has played primarily at LF (29 games of -3 DRS | -4 FRV) and DH (24 games) so far this year.

It was the Rockies, so they might fall outside of the purview of "every other organization", but the main thing the Brewers did with Isaac was just identify him as an MLB calibre player and acquire him for nothing. Every team needs four outfielders minimum, so far this year there are 118 players with at least 80 PA in the outfield. Collins is tied between 39th and 44th with 1.0 WAR. From 2023-24 there were 110 players with at least 400 PA in the outfield, Blake Perkins 2.3 WAR tied him for 68th to 70th on that list. Of course the template was Tyrone Taylor, one of the few Melvin regime holdovers that made it through to the Stearns & Arnold years. From 2021-23 there were 109 players with at least 600 PA in the outfield with Tyrone notching 3.7 WAR, good for 57th. That's three different "fourth outfielders" the Brewers have gotten starter level production out of now, a big reason why their 37.2 WAR is 6th among all outfield units since 2021. They've done the same thing at catcher with their 33.7 WAR since 2018 topping all of MLB. Of course getting three All Star level seasons from Contreras and Grandal helped in there, but no one expected Manny Pina to chip in 5.5 WAR when he was picked up for an aging out of the league K-Rod. Omar Narvaez (5.1 WAR) was already an MLB player, but was acquired for nothing and the template for how the Brewers can help transform catcher's defensive chops. Victor Caratini had 1.3 WAR in 1,033 PA before joining the Brewers, then wracked 2.6 WAR in only 540 PA with Milwaukee. Infield hasn't been nearly as good with Jace Peterson (3.0 WAR over 630 PA from 2021-22) the only real backup we got starter level production out of, but they appear to be one of the better MLB organizations of late when it comes to maximizing bench production from catcher and outfield.

The intimidating figure of five foot ten, hundred sixty five pound First Baseman Kevin Ereu with eight singles and one home run in his first 100 PA worked his 19th walk of the year to open the Zona Crew seventh and scored on a Demetrio Nadal double to tie things up at two each in the desert.

Five games away from THREE HUNDRED with the Shuckers. & his 122 wRC+ (15th in the Southern League min. 150 PA) has been a nice step up from the 92 wRC+ he had posted with Biloxi from 2022-24 for sure.

Didn’t result in any runs but Blake Perkins hit a 96 MPH single and Handelfry followed with his 10th double of the season at 113 MPH. guess he hit it too hard.

Not just any double play either, but a 3-6-3 double play with (checks notes) first baseman Kevin Ereu ?!? who is making his (checks notes again) second ever start at the cold corner ?!?

StatCast stream has gotten a little spotty in AZ (no exit velos on the Handelfry or Quintana singles) but Pedro Ibarguen just ripped a 104.4 MPH base hit. & I must have jinxed Griffin as he walks the leadoff man bottom four. All apologies young man, I’ll try to be better.

& Griffin Tobias goes 1-2-3 in the third picking up two more strikeouts. Busted out a couple curveballs in the 74.9 to 78.6 MPH range. Now up to 23.1 IP without walking a batter.

GameDay giving velo, pitch type & presumably more trustworthy locations. Griffin Tobias on for the second and goes 4U3D (1 H | 1 K). Mostly working four seam and sinker at 91-93 (93.9 max) with a 82-84 slider and one change at 85.5 MPH. Crew got on the board bottom two with a Blake Perkins walk then back to back singles from Handelfry & Jorge Quintana.

Robinson with an effectively wild inning, 24 pitches (11 strikes) to get the zero. He was hit with a 93 MPH batted ball from the leadoff man, then worked around a single and walk before getting the K to close out the frame. Fastball between 91.6 MPH to 94.6 MPH. slider around 82-83, curve and change up coming in around 80-82.
