  1. If they can get a package deal on Wilson/Kinsler i've really started to warm to the idea. The bullpen for the most part was fantastic yesterday despite ANOTHER Guerra disaster, if we can get another solid guy in there and add a veteran bat at the same time let's play baseball into September.
  2. Yes, so we don't have to subject ourselves to the medieval Guerra torture device anymore.
  3. Hope a deal can get done without Brinson because if I have to watch Junior Guerra again I may run out of walls to beat in.
  4. Count me in the camp of lets get Gray now, and then pursue bigger fish in the offseason. That way we aren't chasing guys like Matt Garza and Suppan to fill a rotation out and can look higher up than our new #2 Sonny Gray. Extend him and move on with life.
  5. Because one start right before the trade deadline tells the tale of a 3-4 year sample size? 1-7 with an ERA over 5 last 8 starts Before tonight, since June 1: 8IP 3ER 12K 6.2IP 2ER 6K 7.1IP 2ER 6K 4.1IP 7ER 4K 6IP 2ER 6K 7IP 0ER 10K 5IP 5ER 6K 7IP 1ER 4K 7IP 3ER 9K 5IP 3ER 8K 1 bad start, 1 bleh/bad start. He's getting zero run support as well. Under no circumstance should we be trading for him unless he's to be signed to an extension but 1-7 is skewed.
  6. Everybody needs to take a breath. There's 60 games left. This bullpen and CC's managing of it is beyond maddening but there is a TON of baseball left to play. Did you all really think we were going to run away from the Cubs 6 games ahead and live happily ever after in the NLCS? "Winter was coming" at some point, the battle has only just begun.
  7. So because we had a ton of extra salary flexibility in the off-season, dropping 30M on free agent relievers would have been a good use of it in a year we weren't expected to do anything? Gee, the Phillies didn't seem to have trouble with the concept, they traded for Neshek for PTBNL or cash in November. That was a 6.5m option. The A's didn't have trouble opening the wallet for 37 year old Santiago Casilla. Marlins and Brad Ziegler or Tazawa? Etc etc Nobody said to blow the payroll. Oh by the way, Feliz is throwing about a 2.7 era for the royals since we dumped him off for nothing. With the pathetic state of these castoffs we have that was an error.
  8. Really don't get the whole excuse for not building a bullpen stuff. If you have nothing but ?'s as your starters YOU BETTER HAVE SOME HELP ON THE BACKSIDE. It's common sense, whether you're looking to contend or not. It ain't like the Brewers came anywhere close to maxxing their salary out going into ST, we were/are rolling in cash.
  9. Because one start right before the trade deadline tells the tale of a 3-4 year sample size?
  10. Tomorrow is going to be interesting.
  11. I'd give Brinson + for Manaea for that extra control (and I think he's better), but not for Gray, nor do I think Oakland would require him be in the package.
  12. I'm not impressed. Hopefully Swarzak figured something out because I watched plenty of his mediocre pitching in Minnesota the past several years. He's another Carlos Torres imo.
  13. He was selling then...that's always easier to do..when it comes to buying though...he hasn't really been in this position before...it's a different ball game. You have ot have the stomach/kahunas for it. In my opinion the trade for Sonny Gray (or comperable) decision rests on whether Mark A is going to pony up the big $ for a guy such as Darvish/Verlander etc. Gray is not a #1 but he would be a great #2 or #3 for us.
  14. DS is so scared to make a trade he traded the fan favorite (Lucroy) and probably the 2nd fan favorite (Gomez) away last year. Man do you sound foolish. I think they should be a bit quicker with the aggression if we ARE going to make a deal but good lord, save the bashing for Ted T later this year where it rightfully belongs.
  15. You guys do realize that it would be OK and not a crime for us to trade for cheap Sonny Gray AND go out and (in theory) sign the Yu Darvish ace/good #2 in the offseason right? Getting Gray would put us one step ahead of other competition going into the offseason and not chasing the mid level guys like Garza for 15 mil per. (IN THEORY) Darvish Gray Nelson Anderson (?) Davies Sure looks a heck of alot nicer to me than Nelson Anderson (?) Guerra (?) Davies AAA I know prospects are fun to dream about and all, but half or more of these guys won't live up to the hype. Hader and Brinson off limits, anyone else is fair game IMO.
  16. I'm sure the Tigers are falling over themselves to get ahold of our underperforming assets.
  17. Guess that means lebron told him he was going to bail again and doesn't want Kyrie to be left holding the bag.
  18. Gray would not have helped at all over the course of the last 5 games. I am not sure how Gray was going to help the Brewers core more than 2.4 runs a game. Even with Gray's outing today I doubt the Brewers would have won today or even adding another bullpen arm wouldn't have helped. You are not going to win all that many games scoring on average 2.4 runs a game. So True, this game with the pitching matchup whether Davies or Gray is a bad matchup for Milwaukee. Gray can only pitch 1 every 5 days....We've lost 4 straight, he'd be on deck for game 5 of this losing streak. Bullpen has blown the last four games, not the Starters.... Quintana made one start. The Cubs are roaring. Silly or not it cannot be denied that making that deal woke them up and pulled them out of the malaise they had been in the whole first half.
  19. Beat them in the 10 games h2h we have left.
  20. Knebel has blown a few of them now. The dog poop-ness of the bullpen has spread like a contagious disease to all of them.
  21. Buying and Selling should always be options if it makes sense in the short-term and long-term. Who would you think about selling The reliever market is insane. I'd mainly shop Knebel for someone like Juan Soto maybe Robles if the Nats are desperate enough. I think this team has a chance at the playoffs albeit small, but I just can't see a scenario where the Brewers aren't washed by the Dodgers or Nats. Despite a money filled roster and big names, the Dodgers haven't had a ton to show for it the past few years. Washington I would be more afraid of, but they aren't invincible either.
  22. I'm not sure relying on a pitcher whose never pitched a major league inning or two guys who are back from fairly significant injuries is the best decision either. By the time you know what you have in Woodruff and you see if Anderson is the same Anderson as he was before he got hurt you're opportunity to get a quality player will be gone. We have an amazing amount of depth in the outfield. Unfortunately we can't have six guys playing the outfield a the same time so unless you think it's a good idea to keep guys like Brinson and Phillips either in the minors or on the bench then you best trade someone to help alleviate the logjam (and yes it is a logjam at this point). Trading from a huge area of depth to acquire a solid MLB player with multiple years of control on a very reasonable contact is not as big a risk as some are making it out to be. Not to mention the other is a career sub .250 hitter with zero power that had been enjoying a hot stretch.
  23. Come again? I'll ride Villar into the ground before trading for a old light hitting 2nd baseman that's overpaid. Villar has a pretty good track record outside of this year at the plate. I lean this year as the oddball rather than 2015, 2016. Take a look at what happened the last time we gave up on a promising looking INF and where he's been since (Segura).
  24. If we're going to deal it needs to be done now. No sense in letting it get out of hand and throwing the division race away.
  25. If we're gonna make the deal it's time. Another game thrown away and we conceivably are going to be down to a 2.5 game lead after tonight. This team needs a shot in the arm or the Cubs are going to lay waste to the division.
