  1. I'd assume regression will hit some guys (Thames, Shaw etc) at some point, while others like Villar should pick it up and hopefully it all balances out. I really like Shaw and feel he's been a bit underestimated. He's only 27 so if this is about what he is going to be we have a pretty productive 3B for the next several years. Huge considering the black hole we had there.
  2. There is still a debate over why we should have kept Gennett? Villar even in this depressed state probably has more trade value than Gennett has/had. Sogard is doing exactly the same thing in relief except he's a nerd. Low upside guys are a dime a dozen and a rebuilding team shouldn't be fielding low upside players on a regular basis.
  3. It would work wonders if we brought a guy in that can go 7+ innings most every start that has some team control. Guys like Julio Teheran and Chris Archer come to mind. When did we have that last...Sabathia? Sheets? But then I remember this is a site where we only want to accumulate prospects so that idea is out the window and we can continue to trot the Wily Peraltas of the world out there and bash our heads against a wall. You think the pen sucks now? Wait until they get a 30 games in 31 days stretch under their belts with the starters going 5 innings. This team is in the race and it's the 1st of June. If I am the GM I put the boot on the throat of the underachieving/hungover Cubs and ratty Cardinals now instead of waiting around to see what happens. Rebuilding my butt...there's 3 OF spots and about 8 prospects, maybe less depending on how Thames/Braun/Aguilar are used, not to mention our infield prospects. It's not like guys like Teheran and Archer couldn't be flipped for near as much as we paid if not more...if things wouldn't work out (and we don't want to keep them). Think outside the box.
  4. Speaking of Bartolo, Peralta is looking about as fat as him these days. Not even close to as effective however.
  5. Because no patience. The hate for Arcia because he looks like a rookie while still in his rookie year. Cant have that at 22. Its .950 OPS or move on. Oh but wait, is that right? With Villar and Santana its the lacking of GG defense. Brinson, Perez, Dubon are all going to be these requirements. AS or bust! Yes, Brinson will come up and be like Mike Trout with zero struggles and Dubon is the next Jeter. The ones that are in the minor leagues always look like hall of famers until they get here and go through (gasp!) rookie struggles. Oh the horror!
  6. Why on earth would we want to trade our 22 year old potential All Star SS (someday) for a 31 year old journeyman SS and a bullpen arm?
  7. Give me a break. Maybe they should work in the rain for $15 an hour like the rest of America instead of be paid millions to get a little cold.
  8. Now is the time you try to buy on Quintana considering he has team control left, not if he's 5-0 with a 1.1 ERA.
  9. Now is the time you try to buy on Quintana considering he has team control left. I would absolutely be all for this. Not only is he a really good lefty but he also goes deep into games (7-8IP). We have lacked that for years, and it would take some heat off the bullpen.
  10. Sogard is going to become the next T Plush if he keeps this up with those nerd glasses.
  11. I don't think we have the luxury as a small market to "wait." Looking at the FA pitching the next couple years it's weak, so either way we will probably have to acquire via trade. Whenever the time comes the team looks ready it's time to roll with it IMO. If we end up like Houston so be it, they're a good squad. I would guess right now DS is figuring out which of Broxton, Santana, Brinson, Phillips, etc are the most valuable and then unload a couple of them. I know folks keep clamoring for Braun to go but I don't see it, he's just too good a player to unload unless it's an offer we can't refuse. It's not like his salary is hurting anything with the amount of cheap controlled players coming up. I think it's more likely Braun retires a Brewer or leaves at the very end of his career like Soriano did with the Cubs.
  12. Don't know about anybody else but i'm still jacked after that Pina dong and it's been like 5 hours lol. Lepay is quickly making it easy to forget about BA (coming back tomorrow).
  13. Nothing like an RBI triple from something called TJ Rivera to kill the momentum.
  14. Why do we need to call Phillips or Brinson up when we're scoring 10 runs a game with solid production from guys? I know they're shiny and look fantastic but lets not forget Broxton is a pretty shiny piece himself, and Santana is coming around too. If things stay like they are it wouldn't surprise me if one or more of this core ends up traded for pitching.
  15. Or have a good closer on the next contending team? We can't just keep flipping players non stop. At some point you have to hold valuable assets to make your team good. This is currently a .500 ballclub competing. If this team is very close or above .500 you could think about competing next year quite easily considering we have a lot of talent almostnready for the show and lots of freed up money. I get that relievers can have a lot of value, but if we want to win lots of games a good bullpen is so important and trying to piece one together is a risky business. I'm on your side, but if the market gets hot again and Gleyber Torres/Adam Warren type packages (obviously Knebel isn't Chapman but you get the point) come flying in I wouldn't think twice. Bullpen pitches are generally up and down year to year unless they're truly elite.
  16. Building Knebels value now (hopefully) so they can flip him for a haul at the deadline and go back to Feliz if nobody else presents themselves IMO.
  17. Being we're so low in the draft I am just fine with shots at guys like Giannis/Maker and have no problem with going after another. If we were a top 5-7 pick then it's a different story, but I don't have much interest in taking low upside guys out of the back half of the first round. I'd LOVE to get Fox or Monk, but just don't see it in the cards. I would bet Rodions Kurucs, Omer Yurtseven, or Diallo from Kentucky are pretty high on our lists.
  18. Now Lepay gets bashed? Man it's a tough crowd.
  19. Brewers are 4th in the league in scoring, and that's with their leadoff hitter struggling. Need some pitching help, even if it's a couple of OK bullpen guys.
  20. Do we need another Villar thread? It's the beginning of May...what is the rush to remove him on a rebuilding squad (as everyone keeps saying we are) ? Kind of hard to complain when your leadoff man is struggling and you're scoring 8 runs every night...players regress to the mean, just like Thames will cool off eventually.
  21. Watching this pitching staff, i'd prefer we keep Garza. Somebody has to take the mound every 5th day that isn't a total embarassment to the franchise. Much rather trade Nelson or Peralta if there is even anyone out there that is dumb enough to bite on their age.
  22. For the love of God when can we cut Carlos Torres loose?
  23. I hate this POS. At least Tebow didn't ask for attention, the media created it.
