  1. Inter looking terrible against Spurs. Bale with yet another goal. Inter need to be more offensive in the 2nd half.
  2. What do you think of piggybacking Rogers and Narveson? I'm not sure Mark is ready yet. He has these troublesome control issues at times. If he were put on a pitch count, they could bring in Narveson to finish his start. Rogers has had trouble getting into the 6th even in the minors. Since the 5th starter may be skipped at times, Narveson could float to the bullpen when not needed.
  3. You CAN file the W-4 as single as long as you don't file your taxes that way. You can also put in extra money (I do) above the zero deduction claim if you claim zero as married.
  4. Will miss Franklin Romero (1230 AB, 27 BB). Always a good bet on the over/under for his first walk of the season.
  5. The Washington Post says Soriano will be the closer. The Nationals bullpen, despite blowing the playoffs, was about as good as a bullpen gets last year. I predict that they will be worse this year if only because last year would be hard to duplicate. I'm not sure it was wise to get rid of Morse either.
  6. Musial was a class act much like Robin Yount. I remember his last game in Chicago watching on TV. He came in to pinch hit and the Cubs' announcer, Jack Brickhouse, was going on about how he would get a great ovation from the Chicago fans on his last at bat in Chicago. To my ears, the boos far outweighed any positive reaction. This was one of my first introductions to the "classiness" on the Cubs' fans. Repeated many times since but seldom as classless as this occurrence.
  7. Reminder: Gamel 2008: .329/.395/.537/.933 Morris 2012: .303/.357/.563/.920 Gamel hasn't had near enough at bats in the Majors to give up on him yet.
  8. http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/8765242/chicago-cubs-four-year-52m-deal-edwin-jackson-sources-say Edwin Jackson a done deal? 4 year, $52 million.
  9. http://www.journaltimes.com/sports/baseball/rottino-signs-deal-with-orix-buffaloes-in-japan/article_15055dae-3db8-11e2-b25f-001a4bcf887a.html Vinnie Rottino to the Orix Buffaloes team in Japan.
  10. Chadomac=Rob Deer has been hired as an assistant hitting coach by the Cubs!
  11. It was a bit overblown in my part of West Virginia but I did lose power for about a day. Winds did not seem as strong as advertised. Rain was steady but not much in the way of downpours.
  12. Japanese high schooler wants to go direct to MLB. What is the rule for this? Is he just a free agent? 18 year old throwing 100 mph. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/8532919/shohei-otani-japanese-high-school-fireballer-opting-mlb
  13. Kjellgaard with two HRs. Bucci and Manzanillo trouble with the long ball and Hellweg and Heckathorn with clean innings.
  14. Mike Trout: .326/.399/.564, 49 SBs and a great fielder whereas Cabrera is all thumbs. Cabrera will probably get it but Trout should.
  15. Escobar had an OBP of .305 at West Virginia and was still promoted. Rivera's glove will play and he has plus power. He needs to learn patience at the plate. It won't matter all that much where he is while he is learning it. I think the Brewers still like Anundson. His K/BB was well below what it has been last year along with quite a few other stats. He did miss all of '09 and had limited innings in '10. I hope they can re-sign him and maybe he can get back to where he was before the injury.
  16. Nishioka waives next year's salary and buyout money. Will be leaving. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/8435649/minnesota-twins-tsuyoshi-nishioka-cut-waiving-salary-buyout
  17. http://espnfc.com/us/en/report/352057/report.html?soccernet=true&cc=5901 Sampdoria still undefeated with Nicola Pozzi getting the equalizer with Torino. 4th in the table so far. Too bad it wasn't Juventus.
  18. Yes but that's mainly rookie league. 273-284 beyond that if I'm right. I am pretty satisfied with the minor league season. Breakout years by several players and it looks like there are quite a few players in the system who could contribute at the major league level.
  19. Tickets for the Brewers/Nationals are available on line for $1 (limit two) with a $2 per ticket service fee. They are $5 at the door for the cheapest seats. Also, $1 popcorn, peanuts and hot dogs.
  20. There is a small article in the JSOnline today that talks about TLR's new autobiography "The Last Strike." I assume it's about 2,000 pages long and will take 4 years to read.
  21. I will throw in Devo Richardson. Just when I thought he was making significant progress, he quits.
  22. Sampdoria only 1 point off the lead. Look for a big year from Nicola Pozzi. Especially if he gets off the bench.
  23. The Brewers lead the NL in homers and are 4th in SLG. They also play in Miller Park. If you look at park adjusted numbers they are about average in SLG and generally below average in everything else.
  24. Most of the second place winners have been convicted of doping or are suspected of same. Even Contador was suspended for a while although the charges against him were questionable. Ulrich, who was his main rival for much of this time, has been convicted. I think it has become a witch hunt whether he is guilty or not and he did right not to bankrupt himself defending against continuous charges.
  25. McClure took off to be with a sick child and Valentine said he was on "vacation". Tells you all you need to know about that situation.
