  1. Here's the latest on the Machado Sweepstakes... Brewers a re mentioned... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/06/manny-machado-trade-rumors-dodgers-diamondbacks-phillies-orioles.html Latest On Manny Machado By Steve Adams | June 27, 2018 at 8:35pm CDT Manny Machado will be the most oft-discussed player in baseball from now until the point that he’s ultimately traded, and Orioles general manager Dan Duquette said for the second time this month that interest in the free-agent-to-be is greater than it was when the O’s made him available in the offseason (link via Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com). “There are some teams that are in the market for help on the left side of the infield and some are looking for a shortstop and some are looking for a third baseman,” said Duquette. The asking price on Machado, of course, figures to be fairly steep — and the sheer volume of teams who could show interest can only help the Orioles. Kubatko notes that controllable starting pitching is a known priority for the Orioles, as is finding a potential replacement for Machado. Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that, among the teams with interest in Machado, the Dodgers are perceived by some in the industry as the favorites to land Machado. Los Angeles has gone 26-10 to surge back up the ranks in the National League West, and they’ve done so without the benefit of star young shortstop Corey Seager, whose season ended back in May when he required Tommy John surgery. Machado could step into that void, of course, and provide a massive upgrade at the plate while freeing Chris Taylor and Enrique Hernandez to bounce around the diamond. Per Nightengale, the O’s have placed a heavy focus on scouting the Dodgers’ minor league system. However, there are numerous other clubs at least keeping tabs on Machado, per the report, including the Phillies, the Diamondbacks and the Cardinals. There’s also industry speculation that the NL Central-leading Brewers could jump into the mix, given their aggressive offseason, an expected tight race in the division and the struggles of Orlando Arcia. And, of course, other clubs could yet emerge as potential suitors. The Angels, for instance, learned today that they’ve likely lost Zack Cozart for the rest of the year due to a torn labrum in his left shoulder that will require surgery. One of those clubs, the Diamondbacks, has a particularly compelling case to add Machado to its ranks, as Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic explores. With A.J. Pollock and Patrick Corbin up for free agency following the season and Paul Goldschmidt only controlled through 2019, Piecoro argues that the Diamondbacks will never have a better chance to win with this core of players than they do right now. The front office has already been aggressive in acquiring Brad Boxberger, Jon Jay and Steven Souza Jr. (even if that move has yet to pay dividends), and it would indeed seem curious to take the metaphorical foot off the gas pedal now. The Machado sweepstakes, clearly, will be one of the more intriguing storylines to follow this summer and again in free agency. There’s no clear timetable for when a trade might come together, but Duquette didn’t mince words when acknowledging that his club has “declared as sellers” and suggesting that there’s a “more defined” market for Machado this time around. Nightengale does note, though, that one Orioles exec predicted that based on the manner in which the market is coming together, it’s possible that Machado could be moved before the All-Star break.
  2. The Rangers would likely love to unload his massive contract for almost nothing. They may even kick in money. He is still owed in excess of $50 million. If the Brewers have room to add salary it might be something to consider to keep the farm intact. That said if he doesn't age well then the crew would have Braun Part II on their hands.
  3. He's thriving in the Mexican League.... http://www.milb.com/images/435358/generic/180x270/435358.jpg
  4. Ive seen enough of the pineapple and Kratz... time to make a change at C.
  5. It hurts my brain immensely Not a fan of position players with batting averages under .150?
  6. Pineapple is hovering around the Mendoza line....wonder how long til Stearns makes a move for a catcher..
  7. Between the equity he built up last year and the 1.18 2018 WHIP I think he at least gets 2 more starts...
  8. They got 4 at Pittsburgh right before the AS break. Think they'll try to squeeze a doubleheader in there somewhere. The Brewers also play @Pitt Sept 21-23. Both teams have Sept 20 off. I was thinking that would be the day to avoid a DH.
  9. Gotta say I'm okay not facing Kuhl tonight. Hopefully this game is played later in the year when the Brewers have beefed up with trades and the Pirates are fading...
  10. The closest pitcher comparable I can think of would be Chris Sale traded with three years of team control remaining. Or Greinke when he was traded to the Brewers from the Royals. We had to back up the truck and unload our farm system on that one. Granted, the move got the crew to the NLCS.
  11. You answered your own question. No reason to lock in the higher cost for 60 days until you absolutely need someone on the 40 man roster. {Also the Brewers don't want to put anyone new on the 40 man until they have to} I assume he will be labeled "healthy" and put back on a minor league roster pretty soon. I'd rather he just got DFA'd when healthy... I think that's more likely. No reason for him to occupy a 40 man spot.
  12. It took me less than 2 minutes to find John Sickles report from March 2018: 1) Keston Hiura, 2B, Grade B+/A-: Age 21, first round pick in 2017 from University of California-Irvine, ninth overall, hit .371/.422/.611 in 167 at-bats in pro debut between rookie ball and Midwest League, 13 walks, 37 strikeouts; excellent hitter who is close to major league-ready, plenty of bat speed, projected to hit for both power and average; main question is defense, as he was limited to DH by an elbow injury for most of the season, got into just three games at second base in pro ball; may be destined for left field but even so his bat will play anywhere; ETA late 2019 https://www.minorleagueball.com/2018/2/21/17038344/milwaukee-brewers-top-20-prospects-for-2018 Second base is not as difficult to play as 3B or SS. So the only way LF is an option is if you are butcher.
  13. I certainly hope you are right and Hiura is up in late 2018 or early 2019. However, that all assumes that he continues to own AA pitching. Moreover, Hiura is still considered a butcher in the field. So although his bat might be ready, they may need to figure something out with the glove.
  14. At some point the 40 man roster is going to play a role. Who DS sees as sustaining the run and who he sees as movable as either depth or smaller parts of a bigger trade for more talent. We need to start talking about the 40 if you are going to speculate on aggression and trades. I don't see it as a major issue. There are five players on that list that I would put on the "need to keep list." 1. Bubba Derby - pitching well at CS. 2. Nate Griep - Another solid season, likely a future bullpen arm. 3. Luis Ortiz - Star has faded but I'm not ready to give up on him yet. I think he could become a future bullpen arm. 4. Cody Ponce - Bad in 2018 but there is potential here. 5. Kodi Medieros - Ugly numbers as a pro but still only 22. 2018 has been solid so far. In looking at the current 40 man here are guys I would jettison in a heartbeat: 1. Alec Asher 2. Boone Logan 3. Wade Miley 4. Aaron Wilkerson 5. Steven Vogt 6. Nick Franklin 7. Hernan Perez 8. Eric Sogard 9. Keon Broxton (I think he could be traded for a lottery ticket at a minimum). And I'm certain Stearns will trade a least 2 or 3 guys this summer to improve the club.
  15. Hiura is currently annihilating AA pitching to the tune of a .400 OBP. So IMHO, yes if he continues this the next 6-7 weeks. And what is scary about these numbers is that he is not even walking much. If he can up the walk rate just a tad his stats would be video game esque.
  16. I have no idea how Eric Sogard stays on an MLB roster. No idea.
  17. For the first time in many years I actually like the Brewers 1st round pick. Turang has all the tools to be a superstar and the brewers got him late in the first round. Just because he didn't not decimate the competition his senior year and because of concerns over his frame. If I'm not mistaken scouts said the same thing about JJ Hardy. I greatly prefer this over a high risk high school pitcher or a college bat like Ray and Hiura. The potential with Turang is incredibly high.
  18. Don't remind me... That was the draft where we picked Corey Ray a pick before AJ Puk. I hated that pick then, and i still hate it just as much.
  19. Starter, reliever, custodian....his value is higher than Eric Thames. I would put Thames and McHugh at about the same value before factoring in money. When you consider that Thames is owed millions, McHugh becomes the more valuable piece.
  20. Get back to me in about two years. That said, your are right that the early returns on Brinson are absolutely horrid. And he's 24, so he's not even really young for getting a taste of the bigs.
  21. Yeah Shaw hasn't been the regression candidate everyone expected. I doubt he signs with Milwaukee long term. He and his agent made some nasty comments about the Brewers front office this winter after the Brewers chose to "renew" his contract.
  22. This. Kratz is really really bad. Bethancourt is hitting .328 at AAA. I'd call up Bethancourt 10x over trading for Kratz. YUCK.
  23. It makes me sick to watch Hernan Perez get big at bats... he sucks and everybody knows it but Counsel and Stearns...
