  1. This is my takeaway from the Liriano trade. I now firmly believe Davis or Braun will be traded before spring training. The Crew currently has Braun, Davis, Santana, Liriano, Broxton, Nieuwenhuis, Flores, and Reed all on the 40. In addition the Brewers have Phillips, Presley, and Young Jr. as non-rosters invitees to ST
  2. I had no idea Capuano was still around. A little research reveals that he actually appeared in the big leagues in 2015 but posted an unsightly 7.97 ERA and 1.82 whip in 40.2 innings with the Yankees.
  3. I think this qualifies as an "insane" return for Lucroy If a three top 100 prospect return is insane, I wonder what the author thinks we would get at the deadline, 4 top 100 prospects? The article reads, "While it's possible the Brewers could get a better package if they waited until the July 31 trade deadline, they'd also be running the risk of Lucroy struggling at the plate again or getting injured, which would kill his trade value." In all seriousness if the Brewers got the return proposed in this trade for Lucroy, it would likely make the Brewers minor league system the best in baseball. We would have no less than six top 100 prospects.
  4. Sign me up for a Dave Stewart trade. With the Grienke signing the dbacks are clearly all in for 2016-2017. Any trade with the Dbacks would have to include Shipley and Drury. I would strongly prefer Lugo over Guerrero. Guerrero is older than Lugo and had bad year in the southern league last year. Wei Chieh Huang also interests me. Doesnt throw gas but locates well with a nice change-up. Reminds me of Lopez in the brewers system.
  5. Or the Brewers just dont want to make a trade with the Blue Jays. The Jays system was pretty much ravaged by the trades last summer. Frankly, their may be only 6 or 7 systems with enough depth to trade for Lucroy.
  6. Byung-ho update from MLBtraderumors. I'm surprised nobody has posted this. Many of the normal big fish have been ruled out. Nexen Heroes Accept $12.85MM Posting Fee For Byung-ho Park By Jeff Todd | November 7, 2015 at 12:15pm CST SATURDAY: Neither the Indians nor the Tigers submitted the winning bid for Park, via MLB.com’s Jordan Bastian and MLive.com’s Chris Iott (on Twitter). The Indians did bid for Park, although their bid came up short; the Tigers did not bid for him. The Rangers are not the team either, via a tweet from MLB.com’s T.R. Sullivan. The Orioles, who looked like a potential fit for Park, were outbid and will not be signing him, Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun tweets. The Padres did not win the bidding either, according to Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune (on Twitter). Meanwhile, Jeff Passan of Yahoo tweets that the Red Sox did not win the bid and will stick with Hanley Ramirez at first base. FRIDAY: Korea’s Nexen Heroes have decided to accept a $12.85MM bid on the rights to negotiate a big league contract with first baseman Byung-Ho Park, the club said in an announcement. (The news comes via Korean outlet Naver Sports, at a Korean language link. Han Lee of Global Sporting Integration tweeted the key portion of the report in English.) It is not yet known what MLB club won the posting process, but the as-yet-unidentified team will have thirty days to work out a contract with the first baseman. Nexen technically has until Monday afternoon to make its formal decision on the bid, at which point the clock will begin to run. If Park and his new club are not able to reach agreement on a contract, all involved would lose something. Nexen would not receive the posting fee, Park would not be able to play in North America, and the winning team would not only miss out on the player but also the time spent in talks. It’s far from certain that a contract will be agreed upon, but the incentives are aligned to make it happen. The reported $12.85MM fee would fall well shy of the $25MM+ posting amount commanded by lefty Hyun-Jin Ryu. But it steadily outpaces what the Pirates paid Nexen last year (around $5MM) for the rights to reach a deal with infielder Jung-Ho Kang. After the team-to-team transfer was arrived at, Kang and the Bucs agreed to a four-year, $11MM guarantee. Surely, the success of the latter this year in the majors helped boost the appeal of Park. Both had similarly outlandish numbers in the KBO, though Park has done it more consistently over several seasond. Of course, he’s also a first baseman. In the just-released list of MLBTR’s top fifty free agents, Tim Dierkes predicted that Park would command a $10MM posting fee and a five-year, $40MM contract from the winning team. The first part of that was close, but it remains to be seen how negotiations will proceed.
  7. Its such a shame Nate Orf has so little power. He posted a .288 average and .388 OBP in a pitchers paradise in Brevard and then followed that with a .274 avergae and .378 OBP at Biloxi. Sadly, just 4 home runs in those two seasons. He does seem to hit some doubles, however, so I wonder if a move to second base might be in his future?
  8. I think they would be able to trade him before having to non-tender him. He's nothing special but there are teams like the Mets and Padres for whom he would be an upgrade. I doubt we could get much more back than a fringe lower minor leagues guy. But I guess that would be better than a non-tender. I personally look for Segura to get traded as part of a package this offseason or next deadline to make room for Arcia and/or Sardinas.
  9. Nice writeup. If we could trade all of these players this offseason, I would do it. Bringing in another 4 to 6 top 100 prospects would put the Brewers minor league system right where it needs to be if we plan on trying to contend somewhere in the 2017-2018 window. 2016 is going to be a mess, so why not really tank it big, get the #1 pick, and let young guys and career minor leagues play? Trade Lucroy and play Maldonado and Ashley, or sign a cheapo veteran catcher like Dioner Navarro. Trade Segura and see what we have in Sardinas for one year. Let Yadiel Rivera, Elian Herrera or Jason Rogers play third for one year. Trade Peralta and see what we have in Jungmann, Suter, Davies, Pena, Lopez, Houser, Wagner, and Thornburg. Heck, by the all-star break, Hader might be in the conversation as well. Trade Lind and let Clark and Rogers play the position. *Note: I would also like to see the team jettison Garza and Rodriguez. These guys are both notorious jerks that I really dont want around the young guys coming up. It would be nice if we could find a third baseman with a bad 1 year contract in order to do a change of scenery trade with Garza.
  10. The ump was calling a pretty tight strike zone and squeezing both pitchers. I think that was the cause of the some pitches being left right over the middle of the plate. That said, Lopez looked good. His curve is an MLB quality pitch. His change looks adequate, and his fastball sat right about 94.
  11. Turned on the game to watch Lopez. Saw Logan Schafer trot to the plate in the top of the 1st. Got pissed and turned it off. Absolutely maddening.
  12. Agreed. I would actually rather see the kid they just picked up from the Tigers, or Matt Long, or Philips etc.. We know what Schafer is, we dont know what Reed etc can do in the bigs...
  13. I'm with you. The Brewers know what they have in Schafer at this point, don't they? I hope to see Reed in this series at some point. I find it absolutely maddening. Schafer and his .212 batting average have shown year after year that he is not an MLB player. I see no reason to have him on the roster much less to play him. I could understand it a bit if he was at least average versus nighties, but he is hitting .234 in 77 ab's against rhp's.
  14. I have absolutely NO idea why this team continues to give Logan Schafer MLB at bats. He showed time and time again that he is not a major leaguer.
  15. I'll plan on doing one right after the season, then we'll do one toward the end of spring training. How exactly we do the in-season polls can be decided at that time. No matter, it'll be fun adding all the new prospects to the list. Thanks for taking the time to put this content together guys. Excellent reads. Its really exciting that the Brewers farm system is once again relevant.
  16. He's never posted an OBP below .330 in his minor league career. But his power numbers are VERY weak for a first baseman. Next year will be very telling for him, but IMHO, he needs to hit the weights bigtime this offseason.
  17. Very well said and exactly where I am at. +1. The brewers are not going to compete in 2016. They have a great opportunity to throw as much junk against the wall as they can and see what sticks. Olt, Dominguez, Perez, whatever.
  18. That is probably what the Pirates' postgame is thinking, but I doubt the Brewers pull the trigger that quickly on the rebuild. I'd prefer we try to build a bit more internally first (trade Lind, let Arcia spend most of the year at AAA) than making big FA signs of Freese or Zimmerman This would be disastrous. Lucroy needs to be traded for the Carlos Gomez package(or something very similar) in the off-season. Lind should be traded, hopefully for 2 top 100ish guys. And I wouldnt be opposed to trading Braun and eating some money if its nets 2-4 good players. Braun has actually had a good year and it would be nice to trade high on him before the thumb issue flares up again. I like what the Brewers have done. But if you're going to rebuild the right way, I really only think they are about half way there. The minor league system is once again interesting and relevant, but I'm not sure I see an ace yet, I'm not sure I see a power hitting first baseman, I don't see anything resembling a 3rd base prospect(other than maybe Lara who is years away). The Brewers have some nice pieces but I think another 6 to 8 solid prospects should be in order.
  19. Jonathan Lucroy compared him to Marcum. I just think his location is going to have to be perfect to be a starter and get through MLB lineups 2 to 3 times.
  20. My take on Davies... 1. Stuff is nothing special. 2. Going to need to locate really well. 3. Going to need to throw curve for strikes. 4. Change up is good but I'm not sure good enough to overcome the below average fastball.
  21. I think it'd be pretty silly to only look at his AAA numbers in Colorado, where many pitchers seem to fail. Daives has done a very nice job at every level of the minor leagues. While he may fall flat on his face, he may also stick closer to those minor league numbers and be another answer to the rotation for next season. I certainly hope you are right. It doesn't look like Cravy is the answer, so it would be nice if Davies can step in. 2016 rotation would go as follows: 1. Nelson 2. Jungmann 3. Garza?(Again...) 4. Peralta 5. Davies Then the team would have Wagner, Suter, Hader, and Houser at AAA,
  22. I tend to believe that we will find out very quickly if Davies stuff is good enough to get major league hitters out. His numbers at AAA Colorado Springs were not pretty, but then again neither were the numbers Jungmann put up, and he has dominated at the MLB level.
  23. Looks like they waited just a bit too long to put K-rod on waivers.
  24. The Brewers drafted Suter in the 31st round back in 2012. Since then he's done one thing, get people out. He posted a 3.92 ERA in 43 innings at Helena in 2012. Then a 2.08 ERA in 12 innings in Wisconsin. In 2013 he went back to Wisconsin and got more people out to the tune of a 1.80 ERA in 15 innings before being promoted to Brevard where he put up a 3.63 ERA in 124 innings. In 2014 he went to AA and put up a 3.96 ERA in 152 innings. This year he's put up a 2.22 ERA in 101 innings between Biloxi and Colorado Springs. Any chance we might have another Mike Fiers, completely under the radar back end starter on our hands here? Anybody seen him live? What kind of stuff is he keeping hitters off balance with? He's 25, so he's no spring chicken, but by the looks of it he does one thing, gets people out no matter where he goes....
