    I saw Mike Fiers pitching for the Nashville Sounds years ago before he became a productive starter. Myer's mechanics are very akin to Feirs with the high release. Fiers I think we a tab taller. Bottom line, I just was not too impressed when I saw Myers pitch late in a game against the Cubs minor league guys.

    Yep. I live in Arizona (Tucson) and try to attend 6-8 spring games a year. I highly reccomend that any serious baseball fan add spring training to the bucket list.

    I personally witnessed his start against the Cubs at the end of spring. Went 2 innings and mowed through the Cubs regular's with 89 MPH fastballs. Typical Miley.

    I saw Myers pitch in spring training. Nothing special as far as stuff goes. Smoke and mirrors. I saw the Cubs touch him up a bit. Think Jason Alexander. I would not be clamoring for Myers. There is a reason he is 25 and has never broken through in the bigs.

    Way to early to be making calls on Chourio. Keston Hiura looked like a Hall of Famer his first two months. The league will adjust to Chourio and Chourio will need to adjust back. But yes, the early returns are Chourio are promising. He's not getting fastballs just blown by him.

    I am of the very very firm belief that 2024 is a transition year for the Brewers. In accordance, my reaction to the Williams injury is "meh." I just hope he comes back in mid-summer, pitches well, and is traded next offseason.

    Brewers got a win today over the Padres. Brock Wilken walked in his only PA. Guy now has an OPS of 1.818.

    Frelick has done nothing but hit at every level. The Brewers will do all they can to get him in the lineup but need to navigate the OF logjam. He put up pretty decent MLB numbers last year in 223 plate appearances despite the thumb injury. His issue is just the lack of power. IMHO he would be a perfect fit numbers wise at 2b. Mitchell to me is still very much an enigma. Big year this year for him. Needs to stay healthy and show some power. Weimer IMO got a long look in the bigs last year and was awful. I would expect him to spend some serious time in AAA. If he plays well, he probably gets one more big league shot at some point before he gets the Hiura AAAA label.

    Ah, thanks. I didnt know it worked that way. I thought if both sides delcine a mutual option the player is just an FA automatically. If thats the case, the deal is slightly better. However, it requires Woody to get back close to his prior self (which I see unlikely). Still dislike the deal. But slightly less.

    Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, however, I dont see a comp pick likely to happen. I see the scenarios as follows: 1. Woodruff stinks in 2024-2025. Brewers decline mutual 2026 option. Woodruff becomes FA after 2025. 2. Woodruff pitches well in 2024-2025. Woodruff declines mutual 2026 option. Woodruff becomes FA after 2025. 3. Woodruff sucks in 2024-2025 and the Brewers release him at some point after coming off the IL. Woodruff is FA. Then, here is how a comp pick happens: 4. Woodruff is good but not great in 2024-2025. Both sides exercise 2026 mutual option. Woodruff is good in 2026. Brewers make QO. Woodruff declines and becomes FA. Brewers get comp pick. I would put the chances of scenario 4 under 1%. Somebody let me know if I am off base?

    There is a full no trade clause. So no go on a 2025 deadline trade. Makes the deal even worse. The deal includes a $20 million mutual option for 2026 with a $10 million buyout, half payable on Jan. 15, 2026, and the remainder on July 15, 2026. The contract also grants Woodruff a full no-trade provision and a hotel suite on road trips."

    My opinion: Gross. Guaranting $17 million to a guy who may never be effective again is a risk I would not have taken. I like Woodruff(unlike Burnes) and I hope he is an ace in 2025. However, I hate the deal. Would much rather have spent $15 million a decent f/a in 2025.

    I would think a failed physical would have leaked by now. Also, if it is a failed physical I would think Sanchez would want to be back out on the market and we would know. Certainly one of the weirdest situations I can remember. Bascially the deal was made public and then 3 weeks of limbo.

    I see 2024 as a transitional year for the Brewers. I dont think the team will suck. So there will be a bite at the apple. Its just going to be a smaller bite of the apple. I see 2025 as a year for this team to really make a run. Youngsters will be older, more money should be availiable for the FA market etc.

    Correct. And $15 million could go a long way towards signing F/A's etc. Thats one big FA or two smaller ones. My fingers are very crossed the Woodruff guarantee money is in the $5 million range and not $15 millionish. Of course, incentives are a completely different story.

    Winner winner on this post. If its $1-$5 million guaranteed, then fine. Small gamble he is a decent starter or at least decent reliever in late 2024 and/or 2025. If its more than $5 million guaranteed I think its a bit of a wild gamble just because the guy is a homegrown Brewer. Pretty nasty injury he is coming back from and I wont be surprised if he is not near the same dude when he returns.

    I agree with every word of this post. If you are trading Burnes and Adames, then 2024 is a reloading year. May as well trade Williams too and get it over with. After that, no reason to spend big on FA's to go from below average to average. That would likely net some albatrosses that would need to be DFA'd in 2027 anways. 2024 will be a re-tool year. If the return for Burnes, Adames, Williams is right, I truly believe those prospects, combined with the current system, would put together a competitive 2025 team.

    I think the report by Morosi is spot on. It is precisely what I have been saying for months. By and large the entire pitching market is being held up by Yamamato. Teams that are in on Yamamoto are not yet looking to the trade market for an ace. If the Brewers are going to trade Burners, they are not going to do it without all of the possible bidders at the table. I fully expect things to heat up in a big way in mid-January.
