  1. Yep, gotta think Woody is gone. I feel like the crew is trying to get the best lottery ticket possible.
  2. This trade is really about whether you think Dunn's breakout is real. The dude went from almost no power to 21 bombs last year. If the breakout is real I see this as the Brewers second baseman of the future and a possible Turang replacement. Or at least someone to allow Turang to get time at AAA. Here is a pretty good, and recent, article on Dunn: https://www.forbes.com/sites/chuckmurr/2023/11/10/phillies-sleeper-prospect-oliver-dunn-awakening-in-arizona-fall-sun/?sh=784828306ced
  3. Agreed. Any reports to the contrary are likely just to drive up value.
  4. Not to get too off topic, but I disagree. Reports from the winter meetings are that the Brewers are open for business. Burnes and Peralta may be on the trading block this winter.
  5. This feels like it was the plan all along. The Brewers knew Counsell was a goner. The staff re-signed knowing Murphy was going to be promoted. Just needed Counsell to actually leave to finalize things. I'm fine with it as I think the team will step back next year. It's a one year audition for Murphy IMHO until they are ready to compete in 2025.
  6. I dont think I would have any problem with his. Would love to see Murphy as manager and Matt Erickson promoted to be bench coach.
  7. You might be right. However, I would be counting on the Burnes/Williams/Peralta trades to bring in some bigtime players on the verge on breaking into the MLB. I dont think its completely unrealistic where we already have Mitchell, Frelick, Contreras. Then you add in Chourio/Black/Gasser/Misiorowski and maybe 3-4 players added in trades. Clearling salary would allow for 3-4 FA signings as necessary.
  8. This is precisely how I feel. The term "re-build" is a bit sensitive around here. I'm not sure it really would be a full "re-build" with our top ranked farm system. Instead, the team would likely take a step back in 2024(but not be terrible) and then be ready to win the division in 2025. More of a quick "re-tool." The key is that the Burns/Williams/Adames/Peralta trades would need to be done right and net the right mix of near major league ready talent and low minors talent.
  9. This is the first time I have seen Freddy Peralta's name specifically mentioned. I guess if the right deal comes along....
  10. TrueBlue: Thanks for posting. Hadnt seen that Murphy didnt re-up. That changes things. Either he is the new manager or he follows Counsell.
  11. The fact that the staff had re-upped prior to Counsell announcing his decision means 1 of 2 things: 1. They all thought Counsell would be back and he shocked the world leaving. 2. Pat Murphy has been the chosen successor in waiting for a while, they all knew he would replace Counsell, and they re-upped knowing who would manage. After all Murphy has lots of managing experience already. My thought is that it is #2 and Murphy has been in waiting for years knowing eventually Counsell would cash in. Attanasio is not a moron and I think he had a plan in place to replace Stearns and Counsell. My only reservations on Murphy is that he is old and has had some health issues already (heart attack). Although he is a good fit, Im not sure he is in a position to manage the team for the next 6-8 years. I could see him as a 2-4 year stopgap to Villanueva/Weeks etc.
  12. 1. Kevin Seitzer. 2. Matt Erickson. 3. Rick Sweet. 4. Carlos Villanueva. Easy. Done.
  13. This is bargain bin for a guy who could be a 4 starter on a bad team or a 5 starter on a good team. Starting pitching is not cheap. Rea has hinted in the past he likes the Brewers, so there may have been a discount here to make this happen.
  14. I agree with you. I used the wrong word by just stating "rebuild." It really is a "re-set," "re-tool" or soft "re-build." If the Brewers traded Burnes and Williams and got the proper return, I see no reason the Brewers couldnt be a contender in 2025 under the new playoff system.
  15. Counsel is long gone. It appears he wants paid and/or wants to win and beleives the Brewers are about to start a rebuild. If the Brewers wanted to pay him $5 million+ I think they easily could have inked a deal before now. I am 100% fine with it, as I feel like Counsell has been checked out for a while. Hopefully the Brewers can get Seitzer or Vogt.
  16. This was a "meh" signing with limited downside. I think they gave him like $4 million. Unfortunate that he didnt play better. But whatever. One year deal, not a lot of money.... With Monasterio and Donaldon on the roster he was really expendable. With Mitchell back there just was no room to even keep him around.
  17. Dont look now, but the Reds are now on the verge of passing the Cubs. So we also need to root for Reds losses.
  18. I will be extremely pissed off if the Brewers have not wrapped up the division prior to that series. Lots of games versus the Nationals and Cardinals between now and then.
  19. I cannot wait until Rawdy is non-tendered.
  20. If the Brewers are trying to make the playoffs there is a no way you can trot Chafin out again. I think that's 3 or 4 blowups in a row.

  22. They really really really need to can the entire front office this winter. What a trainwreck.
