  1. I should add that the article states that the author (Slusser) does not know if there have been any meaningful conversations between the Brewers and Giants. So this could be another talking head "spitballing" out loud. Very similar to the recent, Jon Heyman, Yelich to the Blue Jays "rumor." Nonetheless, something fun to talk about during the dog days of winter.
  2. Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle suggests the Giants are looking for a shortstop and Adames could be a possibility. The Giants famously missed out on (passed on?) Carlos Correa last offseason and still haven't found a permanent solution at short. Adames is a free agent after the 2024 season but has mentioned he is amenable to an extension before he reaches free agency. Thoughts? View full rumor

  4. Uh oh, half the brewerfanatic.com posters tonight upon reading the news Devanney was traded:
  5. I agree with every word of this post. No way Arnold is dumb enough to make the Prince Fielder mistake. That lone mistake set the franchise back 3 years. Trade Burnes/Adames/Williams now. Step back in 2024 (not full on rebuild). Then be ready to compete big in 2025/2026.
  6. Correct, and you are not even taking into consideration the injury risk. I truly believe this is all smoke signals to get teams to pony up. I doubt the Burnes trade happens until Yamamoto signs. The losers of the Yamamoto sweepstakes will be interested.
  7. I think this is spot on. He heads to AAA to start the first two months of the season. If things go well, he gets a callup mid-season. If not, I think he could languish a bit or be traded.
  8. Only a little. Its a one year deal, so in fairness its hard to go after anyone too much for a one year deal. I believe the Brewers gave Garza/Suckpan 3+ year deals.
  9. Agreed. Rea likes Milwaukee and the crew swooped in and got him early. Is Rea going to take this team to a world series? No. But does signing him for $2 million free up money elsewhere? Yep.
  10. This is why I chuckled at the folks who objected to the Colin Rea deal. Veteran starting pitching is insanely priced.
  11. Yep. I'm sure the Dodgers would love both (as would most big market teams). However, megadeals like the this dont happen often as the value is almost always higher with separate trades.
  12. A lottery ticket prospect is better than just a straight non-tender. It is extremely disappointing, but that is where things stand.
  13. Yep, gotta think Woody is gone. I feel like the crew is trying to get the best lottery ticket possible.
  14. This trade is really about whether you think Dunn's breakout is real. The dude went from almost no power to 21 bombs last year. If the breakout is real I see this as the Brewers second baseman of the future and a possible Turang replacement. Or at least someone to allow Turang to get time at AAA. Here is a pretty good, and recent, article on Dunn: https://www.forbes.com/sites/chuckmurr/2023/11/10/phillies-sleeper-prospect-oliver-dunn-awakening-in-arizona-fall-sun/?sh=784828306ced
  15. Agreed. Any reports to the contrary are likely just to drive up value.
  16. Not to get too off topic, but I disagree. Reports from the winter meetings are that the Brewers are open for business. Burnes and Peralta may be on the trading block this winter.
  17. This feels like it was the plan all along. The Brewers knew Counsell was a goner. The staff re-signed knowing Murphy was going to be promoted. Just needed Counsell to actually leave to finalize things. I'm fine with it as I think the team will step back next year. It's a one year audition for Murphy IMHO until they are ready to compete in 2025.
  18. I dont think I would have any problem with his. Would love to see Murphy as manager and Matt Erickson promoted to be bench coach.
  19. You might be right. However, I would be counting on the Burnes/Williams/Peralta trades to bring in some bigtime players on the verge on breaking into the MLB. I dont think its completely unrealistic where we already have Mitchell, Frelick, Contreras. Then you add in Chourio/Black/Gasser/Misiorowski and maybe 3-4 players added in trades. Clearling salary would allow for 3-4 FA signings as necessary.
  20. This is precisely how I feel. The term "re-build" is a bit sensitive around here. I'm not sure it really would be a full "re-build" with our top ranked farm system. Instead, the team would likely take a step back in 2024(but not be terrible) and then be ready to win the division in 2025. More of a quick "re-tool." The key is that the Burns/Williams/Adames/Peralta trades would need to be done right and net the right mix of near major league ready talent and low minors talent.
  21. This is the first time I have seen Freddy Peralta's name specifically mentioned. I guess if the right deal comes along....
  22. TrueBlue: Thanks for posting. Hadnt seen that Murphy didnt re-up. That changes things. Either he is the new manager or he follows Counsell.
  23. The fact that the staff had re-upped prior to Counsell announcing his decision means 1 of 2 things: 1. They all thought Counsell would be back and he shocked the world leaving. 2. Pat Murphy has been the chosen successor in waiting for a while, they all knew he would replace Counsell, and they re-upped knowing who would manage. After all Murphy has lots of managing experience already. My thought is that it is #2 and Murphy has been in waiting for years knowing eventually Counsell would cash in. Attanasio is not a moron and I think he had a plan in place to replace Stearns and Counsell. My only reservations on Murphy is that he is old and has had some health issues already (heart attack). Although he is a good fit, Im not sure he is in a position to manage the team for the next 6-8 years. I could see him as a 2-4 year stopgap to Villanueva/Weeks etc.
  24. 1. Kevin Seitzer. 2. Matt Erickson. 3. Rick Sweet. 4. Carlos Villanueva. Easy. Done.
  25. This is bargain bin for a guy who could be a 4 starter on a bad team or a 5 starter on a good team. Starting pitching is not cheap. Rea has hinted in the past he likes the Brewers, so there may have been a discount here to make this happen.
