  1. Boushley is 28 and has never pitched in the MLB. Think Jason Alexander smoke and mirrors when you consider Boushley.
  2. Eventually he will be bumped to the bottom of the lineup. Then he will be dropped from the starting lineup and into the 4th/5th outfielder role. When he stinks as a 4th/5th outfielder he will be released. Probably two years or so from that happening. I highly doubt he is ever a trade candidate.
  3. Even if the Brewers dont win tonight or tomorrow, they have still secured a .500 west coast trip against 3 contenders. I would consider that a big success. We all knew going into April that the first month of the season this team just needed to tread water. Considering the rotation issues, so far so good.
  4. At 1 year and $3.5 million I find it hard to hate this deal. Three possibilities here: A. Anderson is horrible and the Brewers DFA him in May/June. This would result in the Brewers eating about $2million. Not ideal but not disasterous. B. At only age 29, Anderson has a career year. He makes $5.5 million, Brewers get a steal. Anderson gets paid next offseason. Everyone is happy. C. Anderson is very average and everyone goes in a new direction next year. There really is just nothing disastrous about a 1 year deal with a max salary of $5.5 million.
  5. Seems like a low-risk, high reward type deal. Yes plz.
  6. I can second going downtown. Im a big fan of a newer place called Rough Rider. Typically you need a reservation. But there are other good ones as Nate wrote.
  7. My first thought when reading your airBNB is 10 min west of Maryvale is that you may not be in a great area. Hopefully you are further west in Surprise etc. The Maryvale/hood stuff has been a bit overblown on here. But that said, if I was visiting from out of town I wouldnt intentionally wander around there after dark. If you are flying into Sky Harbor I would just rent a car right there.
  8. Good plan on Peoria and Maryvale. I have a soft spot for Peoria as I was in attendance the day that stadium opened in the 1990's. Peoria has been renovated and so has Maryvale so two very good choices. Both also very average as far as attendance/craziness. Good choices for a first trip out. There are tons of restaurants right near Peoria stadium. So just eat right there. That stadium is at Bell and the 101. There are literally 30 restaurents right there to choose from. I wouldnt try to eat near Maryvale the day you go to a Brewers game. Drive to west towards your air BNB and eat in Glendale/Surprise/Peoria. Better yet, venture east and eat in Tempe/Chandler/or Scottsdale. Maryvale is 100% safe during the day and right before and after games. However, I wouldnt linger there into the evenings.
  9. Depends on the stadium. Some (like Sloan Park/Cubs Complex) are a nightmare due to huge crowds every game. Others like Goodyear(Reds/Guardians) and Surprise(Royals/Rangers) are much more subdued. As a general rule, if its your first time out, I would plan to arrive 1.5 hrs before the game if you want to park close. Get parked, take your time walking in, explore the ballpark prior to first pitch etc.
  10. I live in AZ and have attended games at all of the current parks/complexes. Im happy to answer any specific questions about specific parks or areas of Phoenix. A general overview of all the parks would probably result in me writing a 100 page guide about Spring Training in Arizona.
  11. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/12/giants-taylor-rogers-agree-to-three-year-deal.html These contracts this offseason are just egregous. Yuck.
  12. Narvaez to Mets on a one year, $8 million deal. It also includes a $7 million player option for 2024. So about $15 million in guaranteed money for an average catcher. No way he was signing here on a 1 year, $3 million deal to be a backup.
  13. IMHO Narvaez has a much higher upside than Caratini. If he really could be had for $3 million, and Catatini could really be traded for a bag of balls, then Im all in. I just dont think you get Narvaez for $3 million and then I doubt your able to easily trade Caratini. Plus, I bet Narvaez wants to start, so I doubt he gives a discount to be a backup in MIL.
  14. I have very little doubt one of these guys is gone. I would think its Hiura with his poor glove and $2 million salary.
  15. I doubt the Brewers would want to invest the money. They have been looking to cut costs all offseason. Plus, it would likely be better spent on 3B or bullpen help. Instead, I'm actually curius to see if the Brewers unload Caratini and his $3 million salary and roll with Peyton Henry as the backup catcher.
  16. Weird timing. You would think the Brewers would have wanted that 40 man spot prior to the Rule 5 deadline. Unlinke Ron Robinson above, I am not the least bit surprised. I see this team trimming payroll wherever possible. Suter was an easy trim. I also think Renfroe and Wong are shipped out.
  17. I wouldnt be surprised if they trade Wong for a bag of balls. Saves the $2 million buyout and gets $10 million off the payroll. Likely a good move by Arnold.
  18. The Padres have lots of options: 1. Keep Hader and go for it in 2023. 2. Trade Hader this offseason and recoup much of what they gave up for him. 3. Trade Hader at the 2023 deadline and get a good portion of what they traded for him back.
  19. I'm 100% in agreement with you. However, this would require management admitting they made a collosal mistake. In order to mitigate the Yelich "sunk cost" the team is going to need to deploy as many young players as possible. I'm hopeful this offseason the team jettisons as many old players as possible.
  20. I pity you. I think I watched like 5 games. Probably the least baseball I have watched in 20+ years. The lockout turned me off and then this disaster of a team did nothing to bring me back.
  21. What a fitting disaster to the end of a terrible season. Hopeful Stearns and Counsel get their pink slips in the AM.
  22. I agree with the OP that all three decisions contributed. However, I must add that the Yelich deal also haunted the Brewers. It has been haunting the Brewers since March 2020 and will be haunting the Brewers the next 6 years. The Brewers are paying Yelich to be a middle of the lineup slugger. He has been more or less league average. From what I see the Brewers paid Yelich about $22 million this year. That could have gone a long way in FA last offseason or even in taking on salary in trades. That deal has haunted/handcuffed the franchise for years already and will continue to do so for the next half decade. It was a gaff that should cost Stearns his job. Expect more Chi Chi Gonzalez and Zach Godley dumpster diving going forward.

  24. No way he makes it that long. Likely dfa'd in two years or so.
  25. 2-5 road trip. That should do it for the 2022 Brewers.
