  1. I think they go with the proven vets to start the season. Assuming guys are healthy (mainly Nelson): Nelson (100%) Chacin (100%) Burnes (100%) Anderson (80%) Davies (70%) Woodruff (50%) Peralta (0%) I don't think Peralta has any chance to break camp in the rotation. He probably can't make a complete season without hitting some limit or getting gassed. Makes way more sense to start him in the pen where he will limit innings then start later on. A lot may depend on how guys look this spring. Davies definitely could play his way out of the rotation, but I think he is a easy bet going into ST.
  2. Stopped reading after #100, literally. No prospect with zero MLB experience should appear on such a list.
  3. The logo is definitely changing to the BIG, 100%. It doesn't really take Einstein brain power to see that. I am a bit surprised they are essentially making it the official logo unofficially though. It would have been brilliant marketing to have a big reveal/announcement for it. I am sure that still happens and people still go crazy, but it is already the official logo in all honesty. They use it on just about everything now and I am pretty sure they wear it the most. Kids Crew is always the new BIG version and the darn frost on the field signs have that logo. With that being said it almost makes me believe they will do some notable alterations to the uniform outside of the logo to still have an exciting reveal since the logo has become a mainstay already. Maybe the ugly scripting will change on the front etc. and I wonder if the pants might change. Everyone talks about the "M" trying to match the Miller "M", but really the entire front scripting is very Miler logo like. They have yet to do a pinstripe version with the new logo colors...which I think is quite possible. I wonder if there was something in the contract requiring them to have that logo to go with the "Miller Park" name. Somewhat surprising they wouldn't just change the thing. Then again maybe they want to distract away from the hideous ballpark name they are soon to adopt when that goes into effect. Certainly would take backlash away with new uniforms etc. Regardless there is going to be quite a overhaul when the stadium name changes. Way more than a logo change.
  4. I assure you that no one leaving Wisconsin for spring training will be found in Flagstaff to ski.
  5. Yah, but are those 54 innings really spread out over 12-15 guys? No, probably not. Especially considering the Brewers often time pulled guys early to go to premium relievers. Not like guys were getting lit up and Eric Sogard was pitching. Spread that around to 5 guys or so and we are talking a workload increase over 10%.
  6. Depth is huge and I think it makes us the NL Central favorite. In all honesty it is the one and the only reason we won the NL Central last year. All that depth in the pitching staff gave us a ridiculous staff down the stretch because everyone stayed healthy. It was huge and in my opinion is one of the most underrated aspects of building a division winner. In a 162 game season having decent back ups instead of washed up trash is like AS level value.
  7. He will get extended, but wow he will make a lot anyway.
  8. We did the same thing - it was basically free. But we also have YouTubeTV so it's pretty redundant. I don't really use it other than to watch Teen Titans Go on demand. Fixed that for you...no need to be in denial
  9. First off I think Attanasio is simply referring to the payroll. As we saw in 2012 they are willing to max out payroll or even take a loss if they feel they can win it all. The "all in" moves he is referring to is throwing big one year deals at Moose/Grandal. I don't think he is inferring we are going to unload big prospects this year...though it is very possible we end up doing so. I don't think this "all in" payroll mentality necessarily means anything long term at face value. These short term contracts only hurt profits this year and of course profits should be higher than average because of out success last year and then in the current year. Now I have said in the past considering inflation and our new big TV deal incoming I think a good estimate of a realistic payroll is in the $130mil range. Of course I have no inside details to know what the TV deal will look like, but it should be a sizable bump. That being said it seems my estimate is pretty accurate as they now float around $120mil and have not surprisingly said they will add even more at the deadline if/when need be. I am not sure how sustainable that $130mil number would be. The fact we are willing to go that high leads me to believe a sustainable payroll has to be at least $120mil as they can only voluntarily go overboard so much. While experts and Haudricourt like to scream we are out of payroll we will only know what our long term sustainable payroll is when we start dishing out extensions and/or FA contracts that really solidfy a high number multiple years down the road. Right now we have $28mil sunk into two guys on one year deals which doesn't really tell our long term story too much.
  10. The idea that the Brewers are hamstrung by payroll restrictions seems like its a largely made-up idea. No it is real, long term payroll is a concern. 1 year deals, not so much.
  11. Not shocked that was his response. There is no way we would have made a move like this if it was going to handcuff us in July. You simply cannot get into a position where you don't make a move in July because you can't afford it short term. That is an embarrassing fail. The past and the signings of Moose/Grandal make it clear Attansio will implode any short term profits if he thinks we can win a WS.
  12. Maybe he is going the Boras route. Attract as much attention as possible with off the wall claims and statements. Works for Boras all the time.
  13. I thought them signing Hosmer was dumb...this...this is even worse.
  14. That is probably the biggest question surrounding the Brewers offense. Who is the real Arcia at the plate? This offenses biggest improvement isn’t Grandal, but if Arcia can find a way to not be a black hole in the offense. Adding Grandal is great, but getting rid of a black hole in front of the pitcher would be stellar. More pop would be an important factor. Arcia was often another pitcher in lineup and it absolutely killed. Even when “on” it was usually no power just avaerage which essentially was just as worthless.
  15. Provides little to nothing outside of that. I must have cut myself off short. Yah, having decent offense is great to have, but that is basically where his value will stop next year. I am not going to rehash other options, but you have to wonder if average offense that would have provided defense and bass running ability would have been a better option. I am not necessarily talking stolen bases either...but just a guy who doesn't have a plow hitched to his back end. Moustakas on the base paths is likely to cost us numerous times and his defense is probably going to be costly (how much remains to be seen on the later). And for all the talk that his offense is above average he has a career OPS+ of 98, 108 in 2018, and 104 as a Brewer. Hardly something to get excited about when that is his one dimension of value and is slated to play 2B. It is a total analytical move. I think it will be fine, but funny to think how this move would have been viewed 10 years ago. Also while no one has really mentioned it I won't be shocked when Moose find himself the odd man out and going all over the diamond if/when Hiura is deemed ready. Which may be part of the plan, who knows. It would give them quite a bit of depth to make the infield what ever they so choose on any given day. Moose, Shaw, and Hiura against a RHP starter would be quite an infield.
  16. I’m very “whatever” about this move. Moustakas isn’t really someone I’d want in the line up. He isn’t a high OBP contact guy, isn’t speedy to add value there, and isn’t going to be good defensively. Sure he has above average offense, but literally provides little to nothing. Not a big needle mover. Personally I’d like to see someone practice some first base to platoon at first or even take over if Aguilar flops this year. I would guess Attanasio doesn’t care about short term payroll and that is why we see a somewhat strange move. If he gives you the money might as well spend it on someone.
  17. Yet he is worth $30mil from people buying that terrible music. And of course the crowd will be bored. The people that go to those events are not the kind of people who listen to that music.
  18. I am pretty sure Cephus already made it known he was done with Wisconsin.
  19. Harper really hurt himself having a poor year to go with his poor year in 2016 (by his standards). His utter elite ability will still get him a massive contract with a crazy average, but not what it could have been. He is young, but the risk of him being inconsistent year to year is certainly possible and not what you want when signing someone to $30mil+ for a decade.
  20. I don't think it matters how great someone is. Giving up prospects, subtracting from the current MLB roster, and crippling the payroll for the next few years (if even possible to add that much) makes this move nearly impossible. The Brewers would have to do some serious salary dumping to figure this out. Flashy move, but probably not as big of an impact as one would dream of and how all that salary effects us midseason and beyond is likely a disaster. Remind me of the last team that maxed out or went overboard on their payroll with out serious issues soon after. Having a dead weight salary is bad enough...just imagine your entire payroll being a roadblock to any move for improvement.
  21. You are sadly mistaken if you think anyone the Brewers get it going to be a major workhorse going 7+ often. I think they have made it pretty clear they are going to pull starters for the bullpen and trusting your starter to see a lineup a third time is just not something in the cards. While they didn't have a starter of Kluber's level last year I don't think they would dramatically change their ways for him. I'm not really against adding Kluber, I actually would love to get him. However trading away Shaw to spend $10mil+ on a notably worse player in Moose and then add Kluber's $17mil+ salary is really questionable how much that helps us...especially in the near future after 2019. To be honest I think you are proposing one of the worst plans a GM can make. You want to throw all the chips into 2019 (maybe even 2020) before a game is played. All that salary will make it virtually impossible to fill any hole mid season or even next offseason without serious problems. You would have to ride or die on what we did before Game 1 of 162 and as we know things rarely go as planned and major disappointments are likely. A major injury or unplanned black hole would have no way of being fixed without using major prospect capital. It rarely ends up a good plan and handcuffs franchises severely. It reminds me of when I would play GM on MLB: The Show or another sports game and maxed out payroll before the season. It made mid season improvements impossible unless I started blowing prospects or draft picks (in Madden). The Brewers will likely do the wise thing and even though they want to add they will wait to see how things shake out in the first half. Where they will have a better idea on what they do or don't need. This team is good as is so there is no need to panic. We should be in a good place in July or it is probably a good thing we didn't do anything in February.
  22. Disagree on almost everyuting you wrote Kluber >>>> Peralta Shaw> Moose Well I am glad you were able to explain that in a well detailed way. I think it is more like two ">" not four. I think your offer is pretty poor though for three years of an ace. Not to mention the amount of salary you are proposing to take on is not happening. Peralta could have a major impact in the bullpen to offset a lot of what a mid-30s Kluber might do starting. And I guess we can just disagree on Moose/Shaw because I think there is a much bigger margin than one ">". Might as well just go sign an ace or pick one up for cheap in trade due to high salary (Greinke) at that rate. Why give up Shaw, Peralta, and Ray to spend about $25mil a year? Waste of resources and money in my opinion.
  23. The fact Moose is still unsigned tells me him getting that kind of deal is not going to happen. I don't support such a downgrade either. Losing Peralta on the pitching staff and Shaw's bat is probably killing a ton of what Kluber brings if not all. I think the downgrade from Shaw to Moose is a lot more drastic than some think. Statistically it may not be a huge difference, but having a Shaw type bat instead of Moose in our lineup is a big difference. Shaw is a lot more competent than Moose at the plate. I think the Brewers interest in Moose is if he can be had cheap and short term. They will just employ the same logjam they did last year if/when Hiura shows up. Putting a pretty solid bat on the bench at all times.
  24. The highway 29 corridor has be pummeled by every single storm the past week or so. With Wausau looking to get some of the worst today I am guessing since the first storm started they have gained close to 3 feet of snow. We went from almost nothing up in this area to not knowing where to put it anymore. We are having to snowblow our snow off the driveway, onto the sidewalk, and then around to the other side of the house because there simply is no more room on the other side without burying the neighbors house. They are new neighbors and don't know it yet, but all that snow in their yard is already so deep when spring rolls around their basement will flood...at this point just trying to not make it any worse.
  25. It could have pretty good success if they had some quality hunting/fishing shows on it along with all the sports stuff. That would make it a true Wisconsin channel that would appeal to a lot of people. Unfortunately there is always that cringy/weird golf lessons show on after games and other garbage. I don't think people would care for a bunch of replay games.
