  1. I’d be upset if it was July 31st or so. This really is about as major of a move you are going to make in May. There are exceptions of course, but it is really hard to swing notable deals this time of year. Especially when so many teams are in it so to speak still. Just an attempt to catch lightning in a bottle like with Sogard last year.
  2. We aren’t in the position to acquire terrible players and trying to fix them mid season. Not to mention he is expensive too.
  3. So you thought a move like this would inspire no conversation? Still a message board, where people gather to discuss the team. Did I say that? Nope, not at all.
  4. I’ve never seen so many people up in arms over giving up absolutely nothing to replace someone who sucks at everything. There is essentially zero downside...and well...essentially little upside.
  5. The Brewers really have the problem of not having any black holes on the team. We aren’t trotting out a Yuniesky Betancourt that seems obvious and easy to upgrade. If we want to upgrade a starting positional player it’s going to be expensive because we will have to acquire a really good player. 2B seems like the most likely place to replace someone, but that is assuming Villar craters before the deadline. If not we would have to acquire someone like Merrifield to get an upgrade. That is really expensive. C also could be a possibility to get a good upgrade, but Pina has rebounded recently and can easily put up similar value compared to Perez. Perez is surely a safer bet to be valuable, but once again that is a pricey guy to acquire. I wish Merrifield could play SS. Then he could replace Perez on the team being the super utility player. That would likely give us the biggest jolt offensively. He would essentially get starter playing time and keep guys fresh.
  6. He isn’t available at all. He is one of our most valuable players. We would have to get a crazy elite player to ship him in a trade. Like a Chris Sale.
  7. Lorenzo Cain was such an anti-Stearns move too. David Stearns has been a GM for very little time and has essentially never managed a contender before this year. Sometimes I feel people act like we have 20 years of data to look back on and know what he will or won’t do. I doubt we blow up a chunk of the farm for a premium rental...but I can’t say I know Stearns wouldn’t do it ever. The only couple months of team control is why it's an anti-Stearns move. Unless the price drops to peanuts, Davey's not going after him. How do we know Stearns won’t go after him? The zero history of competitive midseasons has has been in charge?
  8. I’d cry over it if I didn’t expect him the hit the DL by next week.
  9. I’d say adding at a position that features one of our three worst players and one of the worst offensive bats in all of baseball is an educated guess as a possibility.
  10. Okay? Is the answer to a World Series win a SS who hits like a pitcher, but plays good defense? I don’t remember saying if we don’t get some SS help we can’t win the WS. Unless someone talks to Stearns on a daily basis (HH19 no longer here) this entire forum is based on educated guesses and starting conversations about multiple possibilities.
  11. I don’t think the Brewers are concerned about Pina. He has rebounded off his miserable start. I doubt he hits like last year, enough offense that his defense is well worth it. I don’t know how hard it is to acquire a back-up catcher in July, but that seems a lot more likely.
  12. Even if you take the more generous WAR calculator (bWAR) he projects out to be about 1.5 over the entire year. fWAR has him negative right now. At this point I’d say any gain on defense is erased by his offense. Having that dismal of offense right next to the pitcher is brutal. At this point he is almost an automatic out and even when he does reach it’s a fairly worthless single. Once again never said they are trying to replace Orlando Arcia. I find it much more likely a utility type player is brought in who can provide more offense if we want it on any given day. If we try to improve our division-worst offense I see it coming in the form of that utility guy or a back-up. Not to stray off topic, but Villar has been good enough so far and Pina/Arcia provide stellar defense I doubt they would ditch on a every day basis unless they find a really good player to get.
  13. Let me be clear I’m not advocating Stearns go find help tomorrow. That isn’t realistic nor do I think we give up on Arcia yet. That being said Orlando Arcia now sports a .199 average and an OPS of .517 (both getting worse daily). At this point there are probably a handful of starters with better batting lines than Orlando Arcia. We also have Jonathan Villar who seems okay now, but that could quickly change by July. With the questionable middle infield we have and just awful depth it seems very likely some type of help could be brought in come July. I personally think a Jerry Hairston Jr. (2011) type addition could be a really good idea. If Orlando Arcia is still absolutely worthless come July one must wonder if a complete replacement might be possible. Anyone aware of any possible players that could be had in July(utility or even starters)? (Unfortunately Yuniesky Betancourt is not available.)
  14. Joe West: “I’m the worst umpire ever.” Angel Hernandez: “Hold my beer.”
  15. That’s just terrible. Miss two calls in a row to give a lead off walk to a very speedy runner who then steals 2nd (then luckily falls off the bag).
  16. The Cubs game is looking promising. Orlando Arcia has officially found the Mendoza line....
  17. Honestly the bullpen has notable regression and is a massive reason we are 10 over. With regression we probably float around .500. The offense and starters will have to pick up the slack to push us over 90 wins. I think they could do it...think. I also think notable July additions are likely. I’d still predict 86 wins. The pitching staff is worrisome.
  19. Man if you want to hear cringe reporting watch the Fox WI telecast when they introduced the new Bucks head coach. Wow
  20. Miguel Rojas is also having a career year already hitting 7x more HRs than he has ever done so in a season before. Actually has almost doubled his career total. Probably a hard one to pry away at this point unless you pony up and bet on his improvements.
