  1. Who exactly supports an expansion? Do owners go with it for money reasons? Because I can't imagine a team likes the idea of their players being picked off. Sure a lot of other teams will lose players, but in the end your team is getting worse. More importantly from the Brewers point of view does this help them in the long run or does it hurt them? Are these expansion teams going to buy big time free agents to spread the talent hurting other big markets or are they going to be another small market for the Brewers to fight with? Here is a good mock expansion: http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2014/9/11/6130703/the-2014-beyond-the-box-score-expansion-draft
  2. Can you guys stop saying he was hit by an airborne base runner? He was clearly not airborne. He was not trying to get out of the baseline all he was doing was turning himself for a throw to first. He made no attempt to avoid the runner coming at him. Utley was very close to 2nd and I am not sure why Tejada was going to attempt a throw. Maybe he felt safe a few feet behind 2nd? In that case he shouldn't be playing middle infield if that's how smart he is. Utley was not running harder than any other daily play into 2nd. That type of slide happens all the time during the regular season. Difference is most fielders will just bail out or jump up. Tejada opted to stay planted on the ground and got trucked. That's the risk he takes. He was well aware Utley was coming in hard.
  3. I have a hard time seeing it being upheld too. If the reason is for breaking the rule I don't see it...I really don't.
  4. Do you honestly think that? He did a typical spin and plant to prepare for a throw to first...very obvious. If he was trying to avoid contact why would he stop? And no he shouldn't just stand there instead. He should have done what any other player does in that exact situation. Jump and let your feet get hit so you just glacefully fall to the ground.
  5. Tejada probably breaks his leg even if that was a clean slide. He saw Utley coming up RIGHT on him yet decided to do a spin move any way planting his foot. Was stupid on his part and any sane player would have bailed on a throw to first at that point. I have seen slides just as hard as that many times. However usually the fielder doesn't plant his foot when he knows he is about to get hit by a base runner. It looks a lot worse than it is because Tejada opted to plant his foot for whatever reason. As to him not touching the base on his "dirty" slide so many player avoid 2nd base trying to break up a double play...SO MANY. It is a part of baseball and most umpires won't call it. In today's game ,in my opinion, that was a clean hard slide. For now that is apart of the game. Much like plowing over the catcher with no intentions of try to touch home used to be apart of the game. Whether they try to change this in the future should be interesting. I think it would be tough since it would be a judgement thing as I can't fathom them not allowing take out slides completely.
  6. You already know the answer. Money. No way would they even consider shrinking the season. I had it in there at one point...guess I ended up not mentioning that. But yes 100% would never happen because of lost money.
  7. Why not make the year end in mid August and have series of 3, 3, 5, and 5. Little to no off days and wrap it up before football. Now that would be something. I mean sure if you are a stat guy like me your whole world would be flipped upside down and historical stats would suddenly be all messed up going forward, but at least baseball could finish their year strong. Instead of now where it nose dives when football starts up. Baseball could have its own March Madness style quick tourney. If we have nearly no off days in the season why do we need them in the postseason? I think it would do some good if a team like the Cubs weren't able to use Arrieta two games in a series and instead were forced to use a fifth starter. Fifth starters are very important in the regular season, but aren't needed come October...that just isn't right.
  8. At the end of the day it is never going to be fair. It isn't fair the Brewers have to play the 97+ win Cardinals, Pirates, and Cubs for a large chunk of their season while other teams play mediocre teams all year. Unless we are going to set up the schedule where every single team plays all the same teams in all the same stadiums you are always going to have problems. You can't make this thing perfect...it just can't be done. No matter what you do people will find a million problems with it. It just cant be perfect so just make it one game and move on. There is nothing wrong with the current setup.
  9. That stadium would be used in current shape until a new one could be built. They wouldn't renovate it or play in it long term.
  10. The Brewers didn't run wild the last two years and Sedar was manning the 3rd base box. Your theory is possible, but it sounds unlikely to actually happen. Maybe it is a bad habit Reonicke caused...maybe.
  11. If Ed Sedar is such a great guy why not make him the bench coach? He is flat out garbage over at the 3B box and quite honestly I wouldn't want him by 1B either.
  12. Even if you want to judge someone based on RBIs Khris Davis is not that guy. If healthy he would have had 90+ RBI. How is that not enough to you? At the very least that is not a problem of any sort. Any guy pushing 90RBI on that garbage offense deserves a pat on the back. I also don't see the risk here. Obviously he is a streaky type player, but he has now proven in over 1000ABs that he is an above average power hitter in the MLB. That is not a mystery at this point.
  13. Mexico City would support it, but I just don't see it being a viable option. I feel like there are too many barriers that it would just be too difficult to make happen. An expansion in general sounds like a big of a pipe dream for now.
  14. I think all of those pitchers are fine. The thing different with them vs. the Jungmann debacle was the fact Jungmann was literally pitching right then on the team. Davies and company are not locks and could easily blow an elbow before the season even begins and never throw a pitch. I just think it was different mid season with the player in question dominating at the time. I really think a post draft mid season list is best: Pre-Season= To cover any offseason moves and any AFL play. Post Draft= Add the draftees and assess players after half a season. Postseason= To cover any deadline moves and possibly assess players after full season If we were to wait until after the deadline for the in season one what is the point of a post season one? What major changes will you possibly have?
  15. I remember two reasons specifically: 1. It was a bit of a scheduling thing. It would push the World Series back into November which MLB hates and just a scheduling issue in general. The other teams are sitting around for at least a week doing nothing. That could screw up a rotation and not be fair to a team that should have an advantage. 2. If they were to have a 3 game playoff, that includes a doubleheader, that team is going to trot into the divisional series tired and a mess. I think the goal is to get one team into the divisional series with a legitimate shot, not at a serious disadvantage.
  16. Man why complain so much about draft position? It's baseball...we won some games and lost some games. Yup a few more losses would have given us more draft money, but we could not control that. You can't intentionally tank and the Brewers did about as close to tanking as you can. Counsell can't just intentionally trot out fans and force players to throw 65 down the middle of the plate. Players still have to go out there and play baseball. The Brewers will pick #5 and that is about where the talent level was this year...actually I would argue they could easily be drafting closer to 10. So just be happy to be in the top 5.
  17. Jean Segura is worthless and a couple hot weeks doesn't change that. He is worth a hot -.1 WAR this year. Not to mention the .20 split between his batting average and on base percentage is a joke. Scooter Gennett isn't worth much either as every team knows he is a platoon bat. Teams don't like platoon players. While he could be worth something to a team I am not sure it is all that much. Your other ones aren't too bad though.
  18. Bat flip was a fail because he looked at it after he threw it to make sure it wasn't going to hit him...gotta have confidence.
  19. Catchers are garbage picks if you ask me. How many first rounder catchers are relevant right now? How long does their peak last? Injury issues? Playing every day? Consistency over 162 games? I will just take an average veteran with some defense and draft someone else Top 5. We picked Clint Coulter in the first round and he now isn't even at the position and has the bat that we could have gotten in the later rounds. Horrible value.
  20. Stuff really isn't free when ticket prices are more expensive on giveaway days.
  21. He isn't driving in enough people? What would he be on pace for if he had a healthy season? 85-90? I don't know that seems pretty respectable if you ask me. For a guy who missed a large amount of time and was on an offensive black hole for a couple months his RBI numbers are pretty reasonable. A .245/.320 split is good enough with the power he has. He hits the ball enough to utilize his power and that is all he needs. I think after today his OPS+ is north of 120...legit bat right there.
  22. I just saw the highlights on ESPN. First thing they showed is Jean Segura idiotically going home on a play where he probably had a 5% chance of making it home. Not only that but Sedar had his hands up way before he got to third. Need to weed out these kind of players...no excuse.
  23. I'd rather get the impact bat at this point... too much has gone wrong on the high-end arms. And that is how teams live in mediocre for years. You will never make it to the world series playing it safe.
  24. Looks like we have a crippled mess for the rest of that contract unless he starts taking PEDs under the table again. What a shame...
