  1. And Anderson isn’t much better (if at all) than the players you listed
  2. Sad. I’d hope anyone wanting more signings would also care about the quality of signing (which is all I’ve seen)
  3. I’d imagine you didn’t see anyone say “sign anyone regardless of their quality as a player”
  4. Not much to be excited about. He hasn’t been any good for a few years. But unsullied he’s a legit excuse for Turang service time shenanigans and he’s still relatively young
  5. I absolutely can use the pile of guys who are free agents after next year because I think I think they should have already extended at least one player, if not more, instead of cutting payroll this off-season. I also never mentioned the brewers letting guys walk previously aso idk what you’re point is here exactly. But in the last year they’ve traded They’re best hitter from 2022 and arguably the best reliever in baseball as salary dumps. And I’m actually more ok with the Hader trade than most people.
  6. I would agree, if they had reallocated those resources to extending one of their key players, or trading for or signing a good player
  7. I actually would prefer they use money they saved to sweeten the first year of an extension for Woodruff (Burnes of the price is reasonable). I also would’ve kept Renfroe instead of dumping him for some “meh” from the Angels if I wasn’t gonna use that money somewhere else. As far as free agent deals I would’ve done for about the same price (and at least one of these players likely would’ve been better off in MKE than where they did sign) would be: Michael Brantley, Josh Bell, JD Martinez (would’ve kept Wong if we signed any of them), Justin Turner, segura, Longoria, Drury, Boxberger, Wil Myers, probably some relievers I’m forgetting too
  8. The only fallacy being used is the (again) strawmanning of thinking anyone is saying “money fixes everything.” Whether those guys they have are homegrown or free agents is not the point l. The pint is that they spent more to KEEP those homegrown talents while many of the good players on the brewers will be gone in 2 years when their deals are up. Like I already said in my previous post, I wish they would spend by extending Burnes or Woodruff and start by paying them more this year
  9. Again, nobody says spending more guarantees winning and of course it must be done wisely. If the brewers spent more (and obviously did it wisely) it would make them better. Some people think they can and should do so. There’s a reason the Braves, Astros, and Dodgers are better teams than the Brewers. They’re just as smart but also spend money. That obviously doesn’t mean the Brewers can spend to those levels, but cutting payroll (like the Renfroe salary dump then not using that when Renfroe would be a good fit right now on the Brewers roster) while being competitive should be annoying to fans
  10. I still like Yandy Diaz for a couple reasons: 1-Adames and his hack/overseeing approach is a bad fit for 2 hitter. Maybe Contreras could be out there but his 2022 numbers might come back to earth. Diaz and his high OBP fits there between Yelich and Rowdy/Winker. 2-his biggest knock is 3B defense. But, he can move to 1B/DH vs LHP and Brosseau can start at 3B. Same for Brosseau coming in late in games to hit for Rowdy against a lefty. And when Turang comes up during the season, Urias can move back to 3B and push Diaz to 1B/DH. 3-TB might be open to getting another OF as well as trading Diaz now that he’s expensive and they have a plethora of IF options
  11. The answer depends on if you get an older player as productive as they were at that time, or an older replayed having to adjust to todays game. Just like Jesse Owens wouldn’t be an Olympic runner today, the Babe would‘nt dominate like he did then. But if they’re gonna be as good as they were at their best, it’s pretty easily Ruth. Let him pitch too
  12. People who say “spending doesn’t equal winning” need to stop strawmanning. It would help the brewers if they spent more (while still being good At the things they’re currently good at) to get another good player or 2
  13. You mean Joey Weiner and Tyrone Taylor don’t have about the same value? Gasp!
  14. You’re correct that those guys had legit reasons to pick other teams, but they also had reasons to pick the Brewers, especially Turner/Drury. as far as other deals I wished the Beewers would be offering (even if they lost out) would be the ones signed by Segura, Boxberger, Nosh Bell, and Ottavino, amongst others. I don’t mind the Renfroe salary dump because it created more financial flexibility to fix other problems. But I hate it if it was a salary dump to save money that doesn’t get used. Even if they try and miss on all free agents, they could use their $ space in a trade, whether it’s at least “buying” a prospect or targeting a useful player who might be getting pricey for another team such as Yandy Diaz or Randy Arozarena from TB. Maybe Canha.
  15. In terms of investing in talent through payroll growth or rolling with their own prospects, I say why not both?
  16. That (combined with more new payouts, etc) makes their step back in spending this year even more inexcusable
  17. Lol fair enough. But they did have a record payroll last year. Taking a step back in a competitive window is what would infuriate me. Might as well rebuild if you’re not gonna go for it right now. I can see the reasoning if Longoria didn’t see this as a legit playoff team when they’re clearly 2nd best in the division
  18. ARI does have the geographical advantage, but he did also express desire to play for a while layoff team. That, plus 1-2million more might have tempted him. I’m starting to get concerned the brewers are going the cheapskates this offseason with a small realistic competitive window right now
  19. I’d give votes to the top 5 on that list in the tweet, except for Sheffield
  20. They don’t have to spend the exact same amount of dollars as the Braves to emulate them. I meant that they should be locking up younger good players earlier and get a couple years extra of control in return. Like with Peralta. Now that they might be interested in extending Adames, Burnes, or Woodruff it’s too late because costs have risen and they’re too close to free agency. A couple years ago, they’d have been more affordable.
  21. All the Braves’ early long-term signings is something the brewers should emulate.
  22. Wiemer had a pretty close K rate to Vientos last year (26 to 28) and both have hit well so far. But yes Wiemer is a bette prospect because of D and baserunning. But that’s why they’d have to give up a pretty good hitter in Canha along with Vientos to get Wiemer. IMO this team needs one more hitter who has hit 2nd between Yelich and Winker or Rowdy and push all-or-nothing low-OBP Adames to 4th. That is one reason why my ideal target is Yandy Diaz. Like Canha, he could make room for prospects by playing More 1B/DH later this year. But Diaz could initially play 3B and Canha could play RF for a few weeks then call Up Frelick (or Turang in the case of Diaz). Between Frelick, Canha, Yelich, Winker, and Mitchell, somebody will be hurt or playing badly, or they can just press around the playing time. it’s funny we used the exact same comparison to show BTV as inaccurate. I mentioned how Wiemer and Taylor were similar value awhile back. That’s why o only cited it here after the fact as an addition that BTV feels the value is similar. I would never use that cite to determine if a trade was fair or not
  23. If Vientos has too high of a K rate for you, wait until you see Wiemer’s. Yeah Wiemer is a better prospect because of D but Vientos has hit well and could be the future 1B. And that’s why the Brewers would get Canha too. If you don’t think his 367. OBP last year (348 career) and RHB would help at 1B/DH and play RF for the first few weeks, then we can agree to disagree there.
  24. Sure, if you think getting a few more weeks of rookie production (as well as not being able to offer a staring gig to free agents) is worth possibly giving up a year of control.
  25. What’s more likely is someone like Turang or Frelick being decent. In that case, sending them down for a few weeks is obvious manipulation and keeping them up (with unlikely compensation for ROY finalist) burns a year of control. Plus, it’s becoming a moot point, but it would be more appealing to a FA to come where he’ll get big league playing time. If opening day 3B position is available, you could interest Evan Longoria. If you’re set on going with Turang, you’ll get a Pablo Reyes on a MiLB deal. And just like there was ample playing time for both Jace Peterson and Kolten Wong, there could be time for Turang (especially because somebody will Be on the Il by mid season) and another solid starting Infielder.
