  1. He's the lead off guy because he sucked, then got moved down in the lineup, then got hurt came back and still sucks. So of course he has to go back to the top. I'm honestly a little surprised he didn't start Kirk
  2. Because Counsell has some weird need to play Perez as often as a regular starter, which he is not (330 plate appearances despite an 88 OPS+ and dropping)
  3. A bit harsh, it is a game of failure. And fail he does to take a pitch in a key moment, time and time again. I just asked for him to ride the pine tomorrow, not be DFAed. Don't see anything wrong with a consequence. But apparently Counsell thinks that because he can play anywhere, he has to play SOMOWHERE every game despite not being a good hitter, and the fact that he throws as way better when he was spot starting at the beginning of the year
  4. Counsels just as dumb with Villar leading off - fast but can't get on base
  5. Sources: #Brewers fading in Sonny Gray discussions. I'm not surprised in the least...As I had assumed all along. Being mentioned with everyone, but not acquiring anyone. Oh well, looks like Brewers aren't going to do anything. I have a feeling that Stearns is the type of GM that WAY overvalues his prospects, and thinks most of them are worth a lot more than they really are. So no matter what, he is always going to feel like acquiring someone is an overpay, when in reality it's likely not. I think he has no problems giving up "fringe" prospects or guys that are blocked (Cooper), but when it actually comes down to trading away(what he thinks is) a higher level prospect...He just can't bring himself to do it. I think no matter what, he would always feel like he didn't get a very good deal, and he can't stomach that. I just hope his rebuild works, but it's a long shot I'd say. Agreed. Not going after Gray and letting the Cubs jump up and grab Quintana is a clear message to the current roster: "You guys aren't good enough". Now wonder they're tanking badly since the break. Management doesn't believe in them, why should they? You can't really think they're not playing well because some mighty ducks-type feeling because Stearns doesn't believe in them like Gordon Bombay sarcastically said to coach Reilly? why try to win when the GM hasn't made a big trade yet?
  6. Can anyone explain why Villar pinch hit instead of Aguilar? Villar doesn't hit lefties (or baseballs) well and Aguilar does so it makes even less sense to me. It's been a couple times now
  7. Kindler has the lowest Babip and best hard-contact rate this year in his career. He could still turn it around. Combine that with doing Detroit the favor of salary relief and Kinzlers good defense and it could make sense. Villar has been one of the worst starters in baseball this year and Sogard is versatile (and will come back to Earth).
  8. They should rework the lineup with Sogard back. But I disagree that Bronson and Phillips would get enough players my time based on when They were up earlier this year. That would chance when Phillips gets traded or Brain goes to the DL though. It would also be a good idea to split the lefties in the middle/top 2B-Sogard RF-Santana 3B-Shaw Lf-Braun 1B -Thames/Aguilar platoon C-Pina Cf-Phillips/Broxton platoon -until they clear time for Bronson every day SS-arcia -lead off against lefties with Villar down here
  9. Plus they're the cubs of last year with depth and versatility and can just play Marwin Gonzalez at SS
  10. Did Braun get hurt that I did not see? Otherwise it would be idiotic to sit Braun literally the day before the all star break (although I know Counsell has some unwarranted need to play Villar and Perez basically every day )
  11. If they got decent value for Aguilar I'm sure Cooper could handle the PH/backup 1B role. Seattle might be a good match since Valencias nothing special at 1B and they have lefty batters at 3B and the OF corners
  12. Villar over Sogard again! I don't think Counsell knows it's not 2016 anymore. Villar has sucked all year and Sogards been playing well. No sense in playing Villar more than in a backup role
  13. Lefty/righty matchup. For his career, Aguilar (smallish sample) has an OPS of .707 vs RHP, Vogt has a career OPS of .750 vs RHP. Statistically, it was slightly better to go with Vogt. How about this year? Yeah I would have thought goood vs bad hitter would be more important than lefty vs righty
  14. It's interesting to discuss who was better, but to me Mussina and Hoffman are both very deserving, especially the gross allowances into the hall like Bill Mazzeroski and whoever was the. Black Sox scandal catcher, who got in for apparently being an honest guy on the team
  15. Players shouldn't lose votes from the Chris Russo's of the world with votes who think something like "he was big" or Jose Canseco said so. Some with not evidence like Manny, Bonds, Clemens, it will be sad when they are giving their HOF speeches. Especially when deserving guys like Martinez and Mussina aren't in yet
  16. There might be some mid season desperation at the deadline, but there are more openings than closers available right now. It may be good to capitalize right now on the crazy reliever market. I would mind getting Candelario(3B)+ from the Cubs. They may think Strop, Edwards or anyone else who wears their hats like an idiot can close (bring back Rodney then), but their bullpen is their only sort of weak spot.
  17. Just give Susac and Pina their chances as big league catchers
  18. Well if you do the math of your statement Santana was starting about 70% of the time. It's not like he's a catcher who needs that many breaks. Plus it would have been more Kirk starts if Broxton didn't run into a dumb brick wall. Again, it's not like Kirk has no role in the majors. He just doesn't have one on a rebuilding team where EVERY roster spot should be given to a guy whose is establishing trade value or is a young player proving his big league ability m. Kirk is an OK backup OF, but is neither of those things.
  19. I don't want him on the majors or the minors either. With so many outfielders in the system, there isn't room for him, especially now that none of them will be moving to first base. AAA will be stacked, so some guys like Reed would be better off on the big league bench instead of the bench in AAA. At least there's some potential there. Kirk is a waste of ABs. Plus there's the issue of Kirk inexplicably playing over the younger better Santana l.
  20. With young OFs starting to come up during this year, it makes sense to move the defensively inept Santana to 1B. Play Perez or someone in RF for a few weeks until Brinson can be brought up to play CF and move Broxton to RF
  21. I think if Carter had any substantial trade value he would have been gone at the deadline last year. If they think he will get 9 million, just let him go and move Santana there to relieve the future OF logjam. Als DFA Maldonado and just go with Pina and Susac
  22. I would think the DH is the perfect time to rest Braun somewhat while also keeping his bat in the lineup.
  23. Yeah Santana's been above average hitter in the majors and crushed the minors the last 2 years but if he didn't sit a bunch he'd really crumble
