  1. Bill Hall is a very good right-handed platoon partner, but that's not even close to worth what he's being paid. If they can move his contract for free I'd do it and then address third base afterwards.
  2. Not to nitpick, but Sheets' best season by far was 2004, and it was as good as Sabathia's 2008. And as far as being unwise, I consider a 5/100 or 6/120 deal for Sabathia to be more unwise than a 3/45 deal for Sheets. Sabathia is very likely to be injured as well over the course of his contract (wayyy overworked). Sheets may be too, but an injured player for a three-year contract isn't crippling like an injured player in a six-year contract.
  3. First of all, ERA+ is a league stat, so the AL vs. NL argument doesn't apply. And yes, CC has been better the last three seasons, but he was only fully healthy last season. Last season he put up numbers as good as any year CC's had outside of his ridonkulous 2008. Sure, I'd obviously choose Sabathia over Sheets on a level playing field, but when you consider the contracts each will get, Sheets is at least as attractive as CC.
  4. Look at the career numbers. They're extremely close. Sheets: 116 ERA+, 1.20 WHIP, 7.6 k/9, 3.85 k/bb Sabathia: 121 ERA+, 1.24, 7.56 k/9, 2.66 k/bb Sabathia just had an insane half-season that will never be duplicated. On a whole, they're extremely similar and it's blowing my mind the Brewers would rather give a five or six-year deal to one before they'd even consider a two or three-year deal to the other.
  5. How are they also hoping to shed Marquis' contract in the process? If we proposed this trade to the computer on a video game, the meter would be all the way to the "Not Interested" side.
  6. It just seems a bit foolish to me to chase a pipe dream of a long-term, extremely risky contract (Sabathia) when they'd presumably have a realistic chance at getting a comparable pitcher for a shorter contract and much less annually. I don't think they should withdraw their offer to CC yet, but I'd try to sign Sheets for two or three years. If Sheets were to accept before Sabathia decides, they can just withdraw their offer to CC.
  7. Pretty unreal that they won't even make an offer.
  8. Finally? I'd say they're catching up with them rather quickly.
  9. Not sure what I was thinking... I've actually seen those at lookout landing before. Awesome.
  10. I also never know what to think when he "laughs something off."
  11. I like Kelly Johnson, just my first reaction. And I see I'm too slow.
  12. - Playing defense Really? I don't really know much about Ibanez's defense. Is he really worse than Dunn?
  13. Those guys can also be traded before they reach the majors, i.e. LaPorta.
  14. How was this signing possible with CC still undecided??
  15. Man the more I think about this the more I really want to sign either Dunn or Burrell. Two elite offensive players at reasonable prices with no loss of draft picks.
  16. I like Cain but he wouldn't be as good outside of that park.
  17. Six years would be killer. I'd try 4/100 or maybe even 3/90. I still think that would be the Brewers' only chance.
  18. Hart is different in that he has speed and can man RF without looking foolish. Yes, but even with this factor I still don't believe he'd have more trade value than Fielder.
  19. Yeah I have no idea what Sabathia would have to do with any decision on Branyan. This is too bad though. Would have been nice to have him for another year.
  20. You could also ask why a team would want to trade for Hart when those guys are available. There would be a bigger demand for Fielder; he is the more productive player. Abreu and probably Burrell will make more than Fielder next year as well, so they won't really be cheap options compared to Fielder.
  21. Yeah I mentioned that earlier but I didn't realize that Dunn hasn't played first as much as I thought. I suppose he can't really be worse than Fielder, but I really have no idea how well he plays first base... I imagine not very well.
  22. Yeah I just saw Burrell too! I just don't get it. I'd love to land either Dunn or Burrell.
  23. "They don't pay me to be a mailmain."
  24. If they put him in left they'd absolutely need to keep Cameron to cover the outfield. After looking at it, Dunn hasn't played quite as much first base as I thought. I still think I'd be inclined to try him at first base though if they feel he can handle it (can he be worse than Fielder anyway?) because outfield defense wouldn't take a hit and Fielder could be used to acquire a good pitcher.
  25. I didn't see this anywhere else, so please move if it's already being discussed.... But how the heck could Arizona not offer Adam Dunn arbitration? They gave up three prospects for 44 games of Adam Dunn and then don't even get picks for him?! They were apparently afraid he'd accept, but even if he did (way unlikely IMO) what's so bad about one year of Adam Dunn? It's not like he couldn't be traded! I'm pretty baffled by this. I'm interested in Dunn but really only for first base because he's such a terrible outfielder. That would obviously make Prince Fielder trade bait for pitching or whatever.
