  1. Very glad to hear this is being considered.
  2. You can use any defensive stat you want then, and Cameron will be well ahead of Fukudome.
  3. I like the Nolasco idea. A deal involving Hardy and Nolasco makes sense because each has had a disappointing season. In fact, that three-way deal Fleehaw proposed looks pretty realistic to me.
  4. I understand the reasoning, but what evidence is there that Suppan is likely to be worth 4 mil next year? He's had negative value each of the last two seasons.
  5. Ha. That Braun contract is so great. Melvin is getting a raw deal here. People are just sitting back and picking pitchers he could have had without saying what he would have needed to give up. Kazmir, Jackson, Jurrjens, Cain. How do you know the Brewers even had a chance? How do you know he didn't try? TH reported yesterday that Melvin tried to acquire Jackson this off-season. That would be the second time Melvin has targeted Jackson, as he wanted Jackson years ago when he traded Richie Sexson. The fact of the matter is that most of the time teams will find better deals among the 29 other teams than the Brewers.
  6. Kazmir didn't even reach the Brewers in waivers because he'd have to clear the AL first, so no point complaining about not beating the offer.
  7. It's great that you're starting now. I got in over my head senior year by being lazy at first, and then all my energy was just focused on school when it should have been on the job search. Have you had internships in the past? Utilize those connections. If you can't get hired full time at that company, you can still use a recommendation to get a full time job somewhere else. That's how I got my first job out of school.
  8. Yeah, most of the guys would get better value in just draft pick compensation. I don't know about everyone else, but I'd be inclined to bring back a lot of the players that they just put on waivers for 2010. Cameron, Hoffman, Counsell, and possibly Lopez. It's likely that trading them now would hurt the Brewers' chances of getting them next year. The scrubs like Looper and Kendall probably won't receive interest, so my guess is that nothing will come of this.
  9. Rob Dibble is the only baseball analyst on television I've ever heard make noises during a play with regularity, i.e. "Ooh! Oh! I dunno if he'll make it... WOW!"
  10. His numbers in his brief AAA stint are even worse than they were in the majors. That should be justification enough to leave him in AAA long enough to buy out that extra FA year.
  11. Yeah, Looper has not been "alright" in any way, shape or form. He's the worst qualified starting pitcher in the NL by a wide margin if you use FIP. There's no way he should be brought back. If nothing else, take that 6 mil available for him and give it to some other free agent starter that's bound to be better.
  12. Because he won't re-sign here and you could get a crap-ton for him.
  13. Actually I'll disagree a bit shelmark. I love what he's done offensively for the Brewers, but as far as "the way he plays the game" I don't like it much. He has given up on ground balls multiple times this year. He dropped that pop-up because he lazily caught it off to the side instead of getting under the ball. He has made baserunning errors. I can see why he's been traded as many times as he has.
  14. Wouldn't have minded seeing Gerut in center today for Cameron. I'd like to see Gerut get more time, and Oswalt seems like a good pitcher to give Cameron a day off against.
  15. Getting a number two starter for Bill Hall would be a steal. Would be shocked to see that happen, even with the Reds wanting to get rid of his contract.
  16. This is my only thought as well. It's nice to not be disgusted while watching the Brewers again. Although Looper starts today, so that all could end quickly.
  17. Patrick, yes! I wonder this all the time! Yet I've gotten into a Scottish band recently, and his accent is clear as day. It boggles my mind.
  18. My thinking is they're figuring Hardy's trade value really can't get any worse. If they can buy another year before he becomes a free agent, that gives him another year to revive some trade value. If he doesn't hit again, at this point what have you really lost? If this truly adds a year of service time, this is the one move made today I can get on board with.
  19. Even the good relievers (Stetter, DiFelice) from early in the season have struggled lately. Are they overworked or just losing effectiveness? Nothing about this team is trending upward.
  20. PECOTA has the odds at 2.67% entering tonight's games. That sounds about right to me.
  21. Looper is just awful. I can't stand watching him pitch. Is there anyone falling short of projections more than him?
  22. The Brewers are worse than that 83 win Cards team that won the World Series. That team at least had Chris Carpenter. The Brewers don't have a pitcher as good as he was. There's really no reason to even entertain the possibility that this pitching staff could pitch well enough the rest of the way to make a run.
  23. I know fans of just about any team seem to dislike their third base coach, but it at least seems like Fischer has windmilled us into so many dumb outs at the plate this year. I don't recall any Brewer third base coach in recent years doing this nearly as much.
  24. This just makes me think of Joe Morgan's "cosistent." Ah, how I miss FJM.
  25. I actually think Swindle is better than Smith and probably more useful as a lefty, but when you're down to the last two guys in the bullpen, it probably isn't a huge deal either way.
