  1. Joe, I think they did the right thing by leaving, it is their right. However, it is often portrayed that the area "still has not recovered"...well, it has, it's just lots of folks decided living in a high risk area was dumb, so they chose to go elsewhere. I'm still shocked that no one, other than myself, has even brought up the idea of "moving" part of New Orleans to an area at a higher sea level...I assume there just is not any available land to do so, but as Joe points out, not many people are willing to build or rebuild there, not to mention the crime is still much higher than it was.
  2. Well Joe, if 32% of the folks were non-black, I don't think it's a blanket statement against any one race. I'm sure there was plenty of fraud, my wife was shocked there are still FEMA trailers being lived in, 3 years later. I'm not surprised, but saddened.
  3. I would have to think Gardner would be outrighted before Lou P...I have to believe Lou is still one of the top 30 C "prospects" in the game...though he's 3rd, 4th, or 5th on the Crew, depending on whether you feel Vinny is too old to be a prospect, or if Lawrie should count as a C.
  4. Actually, many of the low lying areas are still all but abandoned...people got their insurance money and left for places unknown. Joe, are many of the people in that area (is it the 9th ward?) A/A? The ones you see interviewed are usually white, and you can barely understand them, heavy drawl and not very educated.
  5. I'm sure Mark does not "have a talk" about every move that may or may not work out. Just like Doug does not call Ned and ask him why he chose to use one PH and not another. It's classic second guessing. If this was a 3y/$24M deal, it'd be a big question mark...1y deals are far from risk free, but they do not carry with them the inherent risk of damaging the franchise either.
  6. Ssshhh, you may wake up a sleeping giant.
  7. I'm not unhappy, as I care about the team win more than anything else, but that quote from '99 irritates me. As we've seen with the MP scorer, there is no consistency at all, they act like they are just making random calls.
  8. Squeaky wheel, Joe. They can do it because so many of their kids are so cheap.
  9. I agreed with the call until I saw a replay. LaRoche was nowhere near the bag yet...any type of routine pick up and throw gets him relatively easily...if Nyjer Morgan would have been running, I would agree with the call, no doubt. EDIT: The link does not show the best angle, where you could see where LaRoche was when CC touched the ball.
  10. The ump this year was suspended for a day...if Winters was the one last year, the fact he still has a job is proof of how wimpy they are.
  11. Wiz, are you saying they sell tiks for more than face in the resale area? I would think that would be policed by the team.
  12. I find it amazing that we're discussing a scorer other than Miller Park's...but we all know it would have been called an error there, most everything is.
  13. The reason Turnbow was removed is that his numbers were off-the-charts bad, not just the common struggles of a callup like Dillard or DiFelice. Top 25% is pretty darn good. The 'pen costs what, $21M? For 28% of the team, I don't see that as high at all. You can go cheap out there, but you'll have some hits and misses. For the most part, Gagne is the only player who has struggled per contract, and he was not healthy, and I doubt he's still more than 80%. I don't see Riske or Mota as a mistake at all, Dave will be around for 2 more years and is just over his career norms, while Mota has been very good, except during his mechanical troubles. If you take a GM's moves and pick out the one bad one, you'll always find a "worst" move. Sarfate was horrible last year in AAA, and wasn't going to be kept on the 40 man...nice pickup though of a "live arm" by HOU, then BAL.
  14. I feel it's a myth, until shown otherwise. Days in September count for Braun, but not Gamel? That doesn't make any sense.
  15. We saw many PR's used last year, it becomes more of a strategical session, as it's nothing to use a PH, then a PR, then a defensive sub for one move...during the season, you're almost out of players if you do that. Also, we may see more of a combo like Riske/Stetter/Mota to get through a R/L/R group of hitters in the 7th. Thanks Toby.
  16. He won't be in the rotation regardless, I have heard Doug say this much. He might be able to give them a few bullpen innings.
  17. It appears obvious only Kendall will catch CC. Rivera often catches Parra, but rarely the others.
  18. I heard about Salome from a Huntsville area person, so that's a lock. He did not mention Escobar, but of course, that isn't a "newsy" item either. EDIT: Toby or Jim, how do you pronounce Alcides and Salome? Also, is An-gel or An-hel?
  19. Brain drain. I would assume it's common blistering and draining. Aloe, and cool compresses.
  20. Coach is the 2nd person who has said this, so it sounds true. Not looking good for Mel Stocker fans.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  21. I'm sure there's valuable stuff in there, perhaps millions of dollars, depending on what type of "plant" it is.
  22. AAA is full of guys that can hit a little bit, especially given how hitter friendly much of AAA is. That's not even remotely a story.
