  1. I would not mind Taschner at all. He's not a star, but he's a decent loogy. Stetter would be back 9/1 anyway.
  2. If it involves Taschner, it will be announced after tomorrow's game, per SF talk radio, which is totally unreliable, of course.
  3. I'd expect Embree rather than Street. OAK would want more than they gave for Sabathia.
  4. Then compare ages. That's the point. Nix at 25----.347/.506, 853 OPS, 176 OXS Nelson, 25--.409/.488, 897, 199 Brad is better, but considering Nix plays a pretty good CF, they are comparable. What people are saying is that he'd likely be a 800ish OPS guy and that's pretty much average for a first baseman, which in other words means he would be no worse than about half of the rest of baseball. The AL averaged 791 last year, but the NL 846, so 820 is much more accurate. Considering he's an 800 career OPS guy in AAA, imagining he'd be a 800 OPS guy in the majors seems rather optimistic, to say the least. As I have said before, ignoring his previous 750ish AB's in AAA and going with only his '08 numbers seems to be cherry picking, even if he did have an injury which may have sapped his power. I don't see it. He's too old to be much of a prospect, and he's not good enough to be compared to Jack Cust and the like.
  5. Escobar will not sit on the bench next year. He is a SS, and until he fails or is moved, he's not going to play anywhere else.
  6. Nothing can match the silliness of the Krispy Kreme. Proof that the quality of a product means nothing, a business can still go down the tubes because of poor management and debt.
  7. Home? Andrew likes the loge or field level, because foul balls come close to us. He spends about 3 innings in the play area.

  9. WE stopped there in KC and were disappointed. Just seemed like regular fast food.
  10. I'm not sure if this was a Pedro thing or not, but did the person who delivered them go to a suburban Norman Rockwell setting, or a rough neighborhood? If this gent sold the tiks to make a car payment or something, it may have been unethical, but they were his to use as he pleased, I guess. I would assume this is listed somewhere as a violation, but I never would have thought about it. I have given away Amoco passes annually and ask only that they enjoy the tiks or give them to someone who will, but of course, have no idea if they did or if they were sold...albeit, for $5 maybe.
  11. Aaron Krickstein played injured in some little Asian tourney during his prime, because of a huge appearance fee. He never recovered and was a shell of himself the rest of his career. He never saw a penny of that money. They told him it would be paid eventually, but it never was.
  12. He's an 800 OPS guy in AAA. While the injury may have affected his power, I find it hard to believe his OBP was bothered. He's had 1100 AAA AB's, yet many act like the 300 from '08 are all he's had, because it favors their point. He's older than many of the Crew's current players. He simply does not have the numbers to match the hype. As a 25th man making $325 next year, I would not be unhappy, but that's a lot closer to his ceiling than talk of him starting in the bigs. EDIT: I never noticed it before, but compare Nelson's AAA numbers to Laynce Nix.
  13. The irony here Joe is that if some other team tried to throw in Fred Jelson, a 25 year-old with identical numbers, in a trade to us, the same folks would say he's a 4A player. But, because he is Crew property, he's "special". His ceiling appears to be a 1B/LF reserve. Gwynn has much more of a chance to be a major league contributor, but some are ready to give him away and argue Nelson has value. I do not get it at all...he does have a smidgen of value...but not a whole lot. The mere mention of him in the same sentence as "replace Prince" is offensive to me. I can name at least 20 guys not starting in the bigs that are not top prospects I'd rather have as a stopgap 1B.
  14. As someone who replied to dozens of false alarms over the years in retail, you'll have a loud alarm for nothing every few months, which are enough to deter most from setting it unless you are gone for a day or more. Police departments do charge you if you have more than a couple false alarms in a calendar year. I'd be tempted to buy some sort of decoy signs and stickers that you have an alarm system...that's enough to keep most criminals away, as they are idiots. Motion detector lights and such work wonders too.
  15. I would, but we quit HBO when 6FU ended...I hadn't watched anything but that in a year plus. I'll Netflix it then. Looks good.
  16. Adam mentioned in passing to me that he submits his stuff to be looked at and posted. I would guess those are written by someone other than himself.
  17. FTJ is probably correct, that when Suppan comes back, the starter moved to the 'pen will improve it. Stetter has done fine, but to add a proven LH reliever seems very Doug like. Mitch will still be in AAA for depth, and adding veteran talent to the bullpen, even if only for moxie, shows they are moving towards contention.
  18. 26 year-old 1B with a MLE of 740 have very little to no value. If folks want to overvalue him like they did Krynzel, that's their right. Anyone with a Baseball America can find that every AAA team has many players hitting just like Brad, or better. Because 1B is on the far right of the defensive spectrum, and 26 is old for a prospect, that's a lot of negatives for a guy to overcome. His ceiling appears very limited, to say the least.
  19. They might well have a few games on FSN-W as well.
  20. As Briggs hints at, the odds of Maddux or especially Wolf being any better than Carlos or Bush/McClung is tiny. I'm sure Doug and Gord have a list ready in case of injury, but right now, giving up a prospect for no improvement seems silly.
  21. Yep. The correct call is "infield fly, if fair".
  22. Everything I've read about Lucroy indicates he's a solid catching prospect, but probably a reserve.
  23. Very limited value though. Throw in to a team that needs a LH bat off the bench. As Joe points out, there are 2-3 guys on every AAA team that are every bit as good, and many will be free this offseason. Doug has him on the 40 man, so he thinks he would be a popular minor league FA, at the very least, but I can't believe many teams see him as more than AAA depth. Also, this is by far his best AAA season. Peaking at 26 is not unusual, and this might well be as good as it gets for him.
  24. Lucroy looks to be a decent backup...if he continues to progress. I can only hope he's the PTBNL.
