  1. If so, that just means he was dumb enough to take it. Needless to say, that's a job with little reward.
  2. Lots of things go unnoticed if you're getting 6.8 runs a game like Parra is. His ERA isn't that much lower than McClung's, and yet Manny is mentioned right along with Sheets and CC by many. Seth would have 10 wins if they score 7 runs a game for him too. Guys like Rusch and the like have good games, Sabathia had a bad pair at the beginning of the season...they aren't machines, their numbers are averages, not absolutes.
  3. The only idea I've ever heard that is not anti-woman, so to speak, is a day out at a ballgame, or I suppose a concert or comedy club. A steak dinner followed by a sporting event is the only way you'd ever get me to one. EDIT: I know one group that went to dinner and then to a Jerry Seinfeld show, the same night we went to see Jerry. I have told many folks that and they all said that was a refreshing change of pace.
  4. The problem with the pitcher abuse points is it it always made up of guys who are successful, and are going 110 pitches per start. Neither Ben or CC have even thrown a really high pitch start...it's just a bunch of the category 3's and 4's. Only 8 of 18 Ben has gone over 111 pitches, and only twice over 122. They are on the list because they are good.
  5. I would tend to agree with Sheehan's assessment of Inman as a reliever. He did not look very good, that's for sure. He also looked very short...not a good sign for a RHP.
  6. Greg sums up my views very well, as does kramnoj, as non-prospects win a lot of games. How would we feel if Salome was DHing because they had a fine defensive roster filler catching (though I think Angel is probably doing quite well for a kid at that level)? It's all about the kids getting better. Wins and losses are not the point until you get to the bigs.
  7. What Joe said. He's a 1B/LF backup at best, and very unlikely to be much more than that. Many forget he's near his mythical peak, so he should be dominating AAA at 26. Trent Durrington was a AAA all-star as well, vets hit in Nashville. Gwynn will have a much longer and better career than Nelson. Every single team has a AAA 1B who can hit. Brad, because of LHness and his ability to play multiple positions, has a bit of a better chance, but not a whole lot.
  8. The idea of having a young catcher sit on the bench is anti-learning. He needs to play 100+ games at C until he makes it or is switched to another position.
  9. Kremblas is such a whiner...he knows his job is to manage a team that exists for player development, right? And, those are 7 inning games, the starters might eat up all but a couple frames. Considering Turnbow is by far the most likely guy on the staff to pitch in the big leagues, I hope he is on a schedule. They'd never use him otherwise. EDIT: I should mention it is very unlikely Derrick pitches in the bigs this year, and he'll certainly be gone next year, seeking a fresh start. That said, DT is getting paid, so he's going to keep pitching. It might come back as soon as it left.
  10. What Sam said. It's called mathematics.
  11. That's the point, you don't want them included, as their response does not matter. On a side note, the idea of her parents knowing before her is bothersome to me.
  12. Note the close call at 1B was wrong. Their ineptness is astounding.
  13. Standing up for what? You're not marrying them, and it does not matter what they say...why ask?
  14. The risk of drowning in a pool or tub is thousands higher than getting hit at the ballpark. I'm infinitely more worried about getting hit by a bad or drunk driver and my son being injured than a random foul ball.
  15. Clearly no one is realistically expecting to alter their plans based on what the parents say That's why I wouldn't bother asking. Traditions are just another way of doing something over and over for no reason other than that's what you've (or in this case, society) done before. I guess I'm just too independent to concern myself with asking questions that the answer is unimportant to me.
  16. All Money talked about that day was his game calling. Said he was very gifted defensively, just raw. The bat plays. If he hits like that next year in AAA, he might get moved just to get his offense in the bigs if his catching is not ready. The irony there is, a 5-7 guy really is not "built" to play anywhere but catcher...though if he hits, 2B, 3B, or OF are all possible (though it's tough to imagine him being able to learn 2B quicker than C).
  17. 2B do not need the range SS's have, partially because the throw is so much longer. They can play a lot deeper at 2B to cover more ground. Loretta was always a weak SS, but a decent 2B.
  18. It's tough to imagine Maddux or Bedard as an improvement over Bush right now, who, surprise, surprise, has reverted back to his career norms.
  19. I love volume as well, especially if you are building from scratch, like Doug was.
  20. Lowe is head and shoulders (and Desinex) ahead of the others, if he becomes available. Due to his durability, I'd put him ahead of Harden.
  21. When it's all said and done, I bet it will be Colonel Mustard in the study with the candlestick.
  22. Yep, this keeps a team from holding onto a wanted player after they are out of options. They have to clear waivers, if not, they are no longer property of that team. Spreads out talent, supposedly.
