  1. Him and webb are so far down my list of who I want in the pen that they might as well be wang.
  2. And how it might be a signal to walker that the 1 year deal is the best you get.
  3. And if the nl adopts the dh in either of the next 2 offseasons it's not as necessary. And dubon erceg C OF could 4 man the bench easily as early as 2 years from now. You got him 3 years. I like him a lot. If he didn't have the plate discipline of vlad Guerrero I'd love him. But let's take it easy.
  4. Boy didn't take long for Hader to get under rated. FPeraltas been a monster in Biloxi but hasn't touched what hader did there. I'm extremely excited for peralta hader in the pen... but hader is another level. We have a crazy list of pen options with legitimate mlb stuff working up the ranks... but Hader is better than them all. I don't mind having albers jeffress logan but I hope all this talent in the system gets a shot instead of 3 mil value adds.
  5. There's some short vids of him catching throws at first and over emphasizing the catch so much that he might as well be framing it.
  6. If your definition of dominant is 30 starts around 5.5 ip and sub 4 era... I won't argue. Expecting below 3.5 era is asking a lot of a kid. He could be a stabalizing upgrade to the 5th spot vs what we trotted out last year or vs the guerra gallardo miley wilkerson quad that's possible this year. Just something about the early and decisively stated 8 man pen has me wondering if something interesting is in the works. From the moment I heard that and barnes peralta by june the idea of 4-5 being piggy backed woodruff/suter barnes/chacin (career 3.69 thru 4, 3.56 last year) popped into my head. Full piggy back seems far fetched in the nl but a 7 starter 6 pen stack could work.
  7. Yup...AAA thames insurance
  8. Earning and earning it so decisively that you make the team want to start your clock are different things. CC made a comment about peralta and burnes not being out of the question for june. Doubt peralta and burnes can fit into the rotation so take it for what its worth.
  9. Missing 2 years and 2 surgeries is not exactly standard.
  10. "Add Cobb and Ill gladly let Woody and Suter battle for the 5th slot." I'll 1 up that. No competition. Piggy back it. RHP Woody to LHP suter. Don't stress woody 150ip range. Don't use suter as a throw away long man use him as a 90-120 inning eater scheduled long man. Makes the pen 7 man and a joint 5th starter. Theoretically giving the pen a rest day every 5 days through.
  11. I wouldn't rule it out but theres got to be something creative with this 8 man pen to make them contend early in the year. Anderson Davies Chacin works enough. Not pretty but enough. Woodruff Suter piggy backed at 4 could be a pen rest/break day if all goes well. Basically you look to woodruff to go 5. Keep him in the 150ip range. If he's not getting to 5 you throw jeffress to get to thru 5. Suter comes in for the 6th. If losing or up 3 he rides the game through the end. If its close you use knebel or even hader in the 9th. The question then is who is at 5. Yo, guerra, miley, wilkerson all get a quick hook and you do a psuedo pen day. If they can get 4ip you should be ok. If you can skip it, skip it. Basically going 6 starters for 5 spots and a 7 man pen. Trade long man ip and 5th starter ip for a deep start from the 4th starter combo. Gets far easier when burnes nelson peralta bump out weak links mid year.
  12. Do we think Kirby goes straight to a loogy+ role since he's coming off 2 major surgeries and is 24? Logan replacement 2019?
  13. Just trying to catch up here. Is it a given this is the last year AAA is CS?
  14. Yeah, looking fantastic for Thames AAA insurance.
  15. Its just vogt defense, pina regression fear.
  16. Moose walker luc Arrieta cobb lynn holland
  17. Well if Braun can play 1b vs LHP it fits. Villar Perez (braun)* vogt on the bench. Aguilar sogard out. Broxton Phillips AAA. (Braun)*... said like that because Brauns not really bench but plays lf and 1b.
  18. I like perez but he's 27... 6 year deal?
  19. Derby Ventura Perrin aren't trending towards being an mlb starter. Burnes plays no part in this... hes already a needed top 5 as is. Kodi is in the ponce ortiz group for sure but pen isnt an issue and its very likely kirby is in that pen group as well. The main reason I keep kodi starting is that Kirby off 2 elbows could jump him for the loogy role. He's 24 not 22. Every milb call up isn't another hader. Not one of peralta williams houser barnes lopez derby etc are hader.
  20. It's nice being a deep squad right now. 3-1
  21. Did Woodruff and Wilkerson get hurt? I won't gripe if suter woodruff start... I would rather wilkerson get his shot than gallardo miley guerra get another. If not now, wilkersons the next jungemann... AAA guy who will get released after performing but not on the mlb level.
  22. That Morrison deal makes me think 7/1 on walker is possible. I'd jump at it.
  23. Certainly doesn't have a lot of flash. But that screams "Craig Counsell rotation" to me. In a perfect world, the Brewers hold off on signing Cobb for a couple weeks, and Woodruff and Burnes pitch so well in Spring Training and the Brewers are forced to bring them north. Chacin definitely has the stuff to be a dominant set-up guy with his slider if the team finds itself with a surplus of quality rotation candidates. I fully expect Chacin to pull his swarzak impression out by August this year. Burnes Nelson in the rotation bumps him until we deal Davies in the 18-19 offseason. Cross sports reference but to me cobb would be like adding a top CB or WR... bumping a few guys down 1 peg makes the entire core much much stronger. 1 FA add here and we put the entire pitching staff ahead of the curve. Davies and Knebel are the pieces to move to jack the farm back into the top 8 as time pushes farm pieces into their mlb place.
  24. This. I'm very onboard with Villar 6th and hoping he can get his OBP going... and add pressure on the base paths for some added run production from 6-7-8. Pina arcia can single him in from 2nd. In the current structure of lineups, obp hr is the driver... but speed at 6th with good average guys could lead to more of a manufactured run feel to the bottom of the order when power and obp drops off. I like that build. If we went nl dh villars at 9 without blinking.
  25. You absolutely could... but the question is do we make a move to go all in. If we dont knebels sale price peaks at this deadline if he's rolling another sub 3 era season. Asset mgmt would say you deal him before his arby 2-3. My assumed slate 2 years out is: Hader Williams Barnes Houser Peralta Kirby derby suter Albers traded out, knebel traded out, jeffress opted out Lopez DevWill and Kodi in the mix. Nelson Anderson FA Burnes Woodruff Ortiz Ponce Brown Webb in the mix. Davies traded out. Chacin gone via FA Small market, you have to trade pieces a tick earlier than you want to stay ahead of the curve.
