  1. Checking out a little bit of this preseason game against the Mavs. Bobby Portis Jr. is going to be fun to watch. He's a really athletic stretch forward. Seems a little better on defense than advertised as well. Very high-energy player.
  2. I don't think Crawford profiles as a star but I'd say he likely profiles as a big league contributor. Considering they were minutes from non-tendering Knebel, that's a huge win.
  3. Well, they don't really have enough players to field a team right now, so logic would dictate that they will be acquiring more.
  4. I feel like we should be rooting for the Vikings so they still have something to play for against the Saints. With an extra Wild Card team this season, they likely will, even with a loss to the Bucs.
  5. people overstream the defenses I think. I have LA defense too. They had a tough matchup against Arizona last week, so I am sure they dropped the rams to stream another team. I picked up the bears defense last week to replace the rams (kept them on the roster) and they way underperformed the rams anyway. Picked up Akers 2 weeks ago too, so I am off to a 48-0 start in my playoff matchup. Agreed on overstreaming defense. Many do it. I have a tough situation, though, this weekend. I have the Steelers defense, but my QB is Josh Allen. I am included to grab a different D because of this. The best waiver option is probably either the Packers versus Detroit or the Seahawks versus the Jets. I am thinking the Seahawks D, but that D, while its been better lately, truly is terrible. But so is the Jets offense. Should I grab GB, Seattle, or just stick with the Steelers and the weird cheering issue with having them and Allen?
  6. Guys, you are giving Minigoon too much credit. He was just trying to rip on the Brewers by calling them a AAA team. He's a troll.
  7. Had he continued the trajectory he was in when the Blue Jays DFA'd him, I'd agree with you wholeheartedly. But he was pretty much the exact opposite of what was advertised. Granted, it was a small sample, but I don't see much harm in at least bringing him to Spring Training to see if he is anything close to the player he looked like in that short sample. I get that chances are he's not, but there is little risk here IMO.
  8. They are both professionals. If it actually was going to happen (which I highly doubt it would), my guess is Giannis is going to welcome it, not stand in the way. They would figure it out immediately and get along just fine. i agree, but if he isn't happy about it, he is signing elsewhere That's the whole point, though. If Harden were to become a Buck, it would be because Giannis approved, and wanted it to happen, if not facilitated it. The NBA, moreso than any other professional sport, is a superstar-driven league. If Giannis and Harden truly want to play together, they'll find a way to do it.
  9. The Bucks would have to do some serious book-cooking to make that work. They'd likely have to give up Middleton, DD, Wilson and more. Team would basically be Giannis, Lopez, Harden, Jrue, Portis I guess ... and a bunch of G Leaguers. Would be the best starting lineup in the NBA, but would have no depth.
  10. How do you now that? If you want to tell me I have no proof that owners are plowing their own money into their teams I will confess to that. But the accountants on this board, like you, make the opposite argument with no proof. I have a good friend who owns two companies (with two other partners), both national. I'm certain you've heard of one of these companies. The one you would know is doing well despite COVID. The other is not. Rather than pare back production for the company that is losing money, or lay people off until things turn around, the partners have capitalized the second company from their profits and cash reserves of the first. This is hardly a novel idea. It happens all the time. If you all want to act as Mark A.'s public relations flack, have at it. But this offseason of stepping back (and you all know it's coming) is tiresome. I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore. /rant I understand that not everyone is going to agree, but your condescension is certainly not appreciated, and likely is not a constructive way to get your point across. No one here is "acting as Mark A.'s public relations flack. Instead, we are simply looking at this situation through a realistic lens.
  11. There isn't an owner in the league who's pouring buckets of their own cash into a team to be used as player costs. You don't know that. Every team has closed books. And there are reports that Steve Cohen intends to do exactly that with the Mets. I'm truly astonished that this fan message board sounds more like a group of accountants who assiduously defend Mark A's money. Again, no one is doing that. You are not being realistic. Attempting to compare the Brewers to the Mets, who are in the biggest market in the country, and were just purchased by someone looking to make a splash, is an absolutely terrible comparison. I'm truly astonished that this fan message board has a poster realistically trying to make that comparison.
  12. We don't know what the crew can afford.
  13. It's not so much defending Attanasio's bank account so much as looking at the situation with a dose of reality. If you believe that Attanasio is going to agree to lose tens of millions to increase the payroll to a level the finances cannot sustain, you are setting yourself up to be mad just to be mad. What's the point? You play the hand you're dealt.
  14. Thank you for this evergreen post. I am so sick of the "Mark has lots of money, so he should push payroll to $200 million" idea. The people who own baseball teams are not wealthy by accident. They are all very intelligent business people who didn't get that way by making poor investments or continuing to dump money into a non-profitable property. Yes, owning a baseball team is an expensive hobby, but it's also a business. I fully expect that the Brewers will find a way to put a strong, competitive team on the field in 2021, but it isn't going to include the likes of Trevor Bauer and George Springer. Comparing the Brewers financial situation to that of the Mets is probably one of the biggest apples to oranges-type comparison one could make.
  15. Yes, it's common for people to misunderstand these concepts. For example, community spread is not at all how you're describing it. Community spread refers to the source of how one contracted the virus is unknown. I'm guessing you're conflating herd immunity with community spread. No, he isn't wrong at all. The goal of mitigating community spread is to get to the point where infections can be traced to a source. So yes, the goal is to, in effect, eliminate community spread. There are people out there who think that when someone says the goal is to eliminate community spread, it means to eliminate all transmission, but that simply isn't the case. I don't want to speak for DHonks, but I believe that's what he was getting at.
  16. No team wants to give up their young guys. But there are no Josh Haders on the free agent market, either.
  17. At least until they deal it. That pick may not last the week LOL.
  18. I don't know, seeing the Reds inexplicably get demonstrably worse is nice.
  19. Lynn is a solid starter, but I don't think anyone would consider him elite. Hader is elite. Dunning is a very good, controllable young pitcher, though. He's a very solid return for one year of Lynn. Weems is a nice piece as well. I think the Rangers did really well on this deal.
  20. If you want MLB ready talent get ready for a trade like this: Gabe Gross, Dave Bush and Zach Jackson. You are not going to get an All Star level player for Hader it is just not happening. The best bet is to go for a prospect over MLB ready type of a deal. Right ... and to take that idea a step further, every prospect is also going to have question marks. There are very, very few "sure thing" type prospects out there, and those guys typically aren't traded. I would hope, though, that if Hader is traded, it will be for a headliner that has All-Star-type tools and talent. If the Brewers trade Hader this offseason, it is my hope that it will be for a package of players that can contribute to the Big League squad in 2021. But that is far from a given, and it is probably in the team's best interest, now that Yelich is signed to a long-term deal, to take the package that has the best talent, whether it be short-term or long-term.
  21. To play 1B? Or are they actually considering a Yelich to 1B move, which I would support 100%! Has either played 1B before? Pederson has 149 innings of experience at 1B for the Dodgers in 2019. He apparently wasn't great there, and they started using Bellinger more there because of it. Yelich was his high school team's regular 1B, but has not played there as a pro I don't believe.
  22. Different scenarios. Iglesias had 1 year left on his deal at roughly $10 million. Hader has 3 years of control remaining. Also, Iglesias is a solid reliever, but not in Hader's stratosphere talent-wise.
  23. Wow ... I don't understand this one for the Reds. Cost-cutting move?
  24. For sure, and Warren Moon would be an MVP candidate every year if he played now. If Moon and Marino played in the NFL now it would be hard to choose between who would be the MVP every year it would basically be Moon or Marino as the MVP with everyone else not even having a chance. I think a guy like Randall Cunningham would excel in today's NFL as well. He was basically a bigger, stronger Lamar Jackson with a better arm.
  25. Power bat off the bench and part-time 1B when guys like Woodruff and Burnes are on the mound.
