  1. I'm sure if someone asked, the word "depth" would come up repeatedly. Talentless depth isn't really depth, though.
  2. Yeah, really odd choice there with Perez and Braun on the bench.
  3. Great start for Chacin tonight. He has really come around as the solid #3-4 starter he was sold as. A lesson in patience I suppose.
  4. Wow that was a wide zone on Villar. He should be standing on 1st.
  5. But that's the thing. There were rumors, but no one really knows what Tampa was asking for Archer in spring, and what they are willing to accept for him now, if anything. At this point, I wouldn't think about dealing Peralta or Burnes for him, but if Tampa called asked for a package headlined by a guy like Ponce or Supak and some A or A+ ball pitchers, I'd listen. Pre-2017 the Ray's turned down a very lucrative package from the Astros which included 3 top 100 prospects, 2 of which I believe were in the top 50. If that didn't meet their asking price then its tough to imagine they'll bite the bullet now and sell him at a big discount. Much more likely they'll wait and hope he recovers value by the deadline or next offseason. If that's the case, then you just don't do it. But if he continues to decline, it may get to the point where he just demands a trade or the Rays get sick of throwing him out there. That's when you strike.
  6. Wow, what more do Greip and Torres-Costa need to do to get advanced to AAA?
  7. May 15, and guess who's in 1st place?
  8. Great at-bat by Arcia. Would really be nice to see him get hot.
  9. Counsell appears to be trying to establish Perez as the primary 2B. I agree that if they aren't going to play Villar, they should probably just deal him ... although I doubt his value around the league is very high. I bet if he was DFA'd, though, some team would be happy to snap him up.

  11. This doesn't really provide an argument as to why he's better as a reliever than starter, simply supports that he's an extremely effective reliever. Virtually every top starter with elite stuff would be extremely effective in relief, but those guys provide more value starting. I love Hader in the pen, but also agree that they need to give him a shot as a starter at some point. If it doesn't work out, so be it ... you throw him back in the pen and still have a dominant reliever. He isn't some sort of faberge egg that is going to crack into a million pieces if starting doesn't work out. Personally, and this is just my opinion, I would be very surprised if Hader doesn't start 2019 in the rotation.
  12. Says the guy with a lot of hot takes himself. Why is it that you think a change of scenery will make him any better? His career numbers are heavy on strike-outs, but nothing else. I don't know that it will ... but I'll gladly take a chance on a proven workhorse with a successful past career, who is still relatively young and signed to an affordable deal with multiple years of control left. At the contract he's on, even if you need to throw him in the bullpen, it isn't going to kill you. Who knows what the Rays are asking via trade, but I can guarantee you that ask hasn't gone up in the last month. Also, all I was asking for was a little reasoning behind your opinion.
  13. Quality depth is great to have. Archer would create more of it. Depth yes, quality depth, ummm no. Why is it that you totally dismiss the idea that a change of scenery for Archer might help turn him around? You seem to totally dismiss him as junk, but his career numbers indicate otherwise. I'm sorry if that seems snarky, but the constant Hot Takes on this board get to be a little much at times.
  14. Well yeah, because pitchers never turn things around post trade.
  15. Considering how poorly Archer is pitching so far, and how effective the Brewers' staff has been, the price on him continues to decrease. His stuff is still plenty good, though. I'd gladly take him and his affordable contract with several years of control, and hope that Derek Johnson and the fact that he would be pitching for a contender would help him turn things around. Sabathia was underperforming when the Brewers traded for him way back when as well. Granted Archer is not Sabathia, but there are similarities in the situations.
  16. "He did strike out nine in his last start, a season high for a Brewers pitcher." I know that these are probably canned blurbs done in advance, but considering Peralta was the talk of MLB 18 hours ago, it's kind of funny.
  17. I nearly forgot he was even still around. Yay pitching depth!
  18. I'll admit that I wasn't super high on Peralta for a number of reasons, namely his small stature and the fact that he isn't a hard thrower. He surprised me with his stuff yesterday, though. He sat at 91-94, while occasionally touching 95, with plenty of movement. His breaking stuff looked good, and he has great deception in his delivery. If he can continue to locate like he did yesterday, he's going to be good. So far, I am very happy to be wrong.
  19. JJ pitched very well again tonight. His ability to take the ball nearly every night, and pitch multiple innings, is huge.
  20. Baseball related, but every time Haudricourt or McCalvy tweet about a Brewers player being optioned frequently, someone responds wondering how close that player is to having "all their options" used up. I get that options are somewhat complicated, but wouldn't typing "how to MLB options work" into Google be more efficient than outing yourself as an idiot?
  21. From Fangraphs: Of the 106 players in the NL with 100+ plate appearances, Arcia ranks 105th in wRC+. If you want to add in his defensive value and look at overall WAR, he rises to 97th. So whatever he shows with the glove, it doesn't make up for his anemic bat. He's been the least valuable SS in the league. The fact that the Brewers really don't have anyone else to play the position on a regular basis doesn't mean Arcia has been valuable. He's fortunate that the team has no other options. The statement was that he is costing the team wins and he isn't. Could he be better right now? Of course. No one is debating that. This is what you deal with sometimes with bringing up young talent. People always gripe that we don't go with a youth movement but when we do, and they don't come out and swing it like the Babe, then it said that they suck and are worthless and never will be good. It truly is amazing. Patience is something the Brewers must and should have. It seems that a lot of the "hot take"-type emotional "post-before-you-think" comments typically reserved for In-Game threads are making their way to the regular forums this season.
  22. - can play multiple positions - check - bats left handed - check The only box he doesn't check for the David Stearns trifecta is "previous underwhelming MLB experience".
